  1. I’m noticing DD doesn’t do much in the off-season anymore. What are his 5 best new off-season acquisitions in the past 2 years? 1. JD 2. Brasier, and that one might be a bit of luck. 3. Colten Brewer? Erasmo Ramirez? I’m struggling here. Really since 2016, it’s been JD...
  2. We really can’t say “always” until Machado and Harper see better contracts than Jason Heyeard and Joe Mauer got...
  3. One would think so, but both will also be older than 26 when they reach free agency...
  4. Trade value varies from team to team. But it’s the closest we have. Chavis is at the Major’s doorstep, which does enhance his value...
  5. BA still made him a top 100 prospect mid-season last year, even after the suspension. Of course now they rank Dalbec ahead of him...
  6. 1. I am hoping for a bullpen addition or two, but right now the Sox have Barnes, Brasier, Hembree, Workman, Thornburg, and Johnson and (if healthy) Wright. They also have Poyner, Brewer and Lakins on the 40-man roster and still have one open space. 2. Hopefully Pedroia can play. This surgery can go either way. It ended the career of Grady Sizemore prematurely, but it also didn't affect Justin Turner much at all. 3. It looks like Vazquez and Leon split catching duties, which is fine with me. Swihart falls into the category of supersub utility players, of which the Sox have 4 if you count Pearce. If Pedroia cannot go, one of Holt or Nunez probably handles 2b, leaving the team at 25 active players. If Pedroia can play, someone has to go. The only player with an option left is Holt, but I really doubt he gets demoted. So maybe Swihart is moved or released at some point? Chavis and Lin will both play at some point this year as needed for injuries. But that's probably the only way they make the 25 man roster at all this season. Dalbec is not even on the 40 man roster yet, and isn't likely to be the next player added from within. Erasmo Ramirez probably is, as he has an opt out but if he pitches like he is capable, he might be in the pen. Durbin Feltman is another player likely added before Dalbec, but I do think they want Feltman to get some innings above A-ball first...
  7. It's when you say things like "Who are we to judge right? I don't think that anyone watching from a distance liked what they saw with respect to that incident but I certainly know nothing about what led to it", it makes it sound like you want to justify it. Sale was out of line in that incident, and several others preceding it. The Red Sox benefited because it all did lead to his trade out of Chicago. I don't think it is any coincidence that Sale and Eaton were the two most critical players on the White Sox for the whole incident, and they were the first two players traded away, despite both being on team-friendly deals that teams rebuild around rather than trade away to rebuild with. But really, that entire scenario was the fault of Adam LaRoche and Kenny Williams. LaRoche for putting the team in that spot to begin with, and while Williams really probably did do the right thing, he allowed it to escalate into a war with his players. But this in no way justifies anything Sale (or Eaton) did, which was a lot, and it all culminted with the incident of him cutting up jerseys. But hey, it helped the Red Sox get a ring and he has been much better behaved since coming to Boston...
  8. Mature adults? There’s no way anyone can excuse that episode as anything but a very immature response. Because that’s all it was, and I cannot imagine anything Sale would say that would make anyone think “Oh? That’s why? Ok, it all makes sense now.” But recognizing that incident for what it was is 100% exclusive from rooting for Sale to pitch like he has and stay healthy and , yes, if you like, sign an extension with Boston....
  9. That was my impression from Chicago. I mean, go look at the White Sox uniform history. Now bear in mind none of those have ever been cut up by a player. Not the shorts. Not the wide lapels. None, and no team in MLB has as long of a history with hideous and tasteless uniforms. It wasn’t about the uniforms.

  11. Why not just offer a 3 year $100mil? I doubt the 4years $75 mill is much of an incentive to stay...
  12. Also, signing Machado for 7 years might mean Betts is gone in two...
  13. But if there were ever two players who checked all the boxes for a long term high AAV contract, it’s Machado and Harper...
  14. But hypothetically what would a one year of Bogaerts be worth in a trade?
  15. Oh it’s a safe bet his agent has been in contact with the Cashman. As well as Friedman, Dombrowski, BVW, and Klentak. And probably a few others...
  16. DD has somewhat of a habit of acquiring players who’ve played for him before (Bryan Holaday, Rajai Davis, Ian Kinsler, Doug Fister, Johnny Peralta, and most recently Daniel Schlereth), which is not uncommon. In fact, a lot of employers like familiarity. This makes me think if the Sox sign any reliever, the best bet might be Alex Wilson...
  17. It actually seems slower than last year. I’m tempted to go out and make free agent offers to Machado and Harper myself...
  18. Cut him some slack. He played shortstop every day until he was 35 years old and never took a day off. And even after that still hung on for 5 more years...
  19. As a team, the lineup is very good but the rotation is actually quite suspect (after Keuchel), which tells you what is still available. The bullpen is very strong. If DD signed any two from that pen, it would be very beneficial to the Sox...
  20. I have a 5 man bench. Team is built for either league apparently. Cargo was my first thought at DH followed by Dietrich. But maybe the best lineup has Moustakas at DH with Machado moving to 3b and Iglesias to SS. But that’s not really the point...
  21. Ah the dreaded “C Word.” The agents throw it around so fast as well, mostly because it has worked 3 times already. But baseball is a $10 billion dollar industry. If owners are going to try to collide to keep salaries down a few million here and there, I would expect at least one opportunistic owner to break ranks and take advantage of the inactivity. Now selfish owners working independently to not spend because those long term mega contracts are financial sinkholes and everyone knows it? I can see that...
  22. With less than one month until pitchers and catchers report, there are enough good free agents left to make an actual decent team. Here’s my roster. All replacement arguments welcome. C Martin Maldonado 1b Marwin Gonzalez 2b Asdrubal Cabrera 3b Mike Moustakas SS Manny Machado LF Adam Jones CF A.J. Pollock RF Bryce Harper SP Dallas Keuchel SP Marco Estrada SP Drew Pomeranz SP Martin Perez SP Wade Miley CL Craig Kimbrel RP Adam Ottavino RP Cody Allen RP Brad Brach RP Ryan Madson RP Hunter Strickland RP Greg Holland BN Nick Hundley BN Derek Dietrich BN Carlos Gonzalez BN Wilmer Flores BN Jose Iglesias That roster is better than a lot of MLB teams...
  23. Less than one month until pitchers and catchers report for most teams. Right now there are 73 pitchers with nowhere to report to...
  24. Those are not exactly names from a bad club. There was also that Ripken guy who held on pretty long at shortstop. He was pretty big...
  25. Did it really ever look that way? I thought he was a no-brained...
