  1. That was my impression from Chicago. I mean, go look at the White Sox uniform history. Now bear in mind none of those have ever been cut up by a player. Not the shorts. Not the wide lapels. None, and no team in MLB has as long of a history with hideous and t It wasn’t about the uniforms.
  2. Why not just offer a 3 year $100mil? I doubt the 4years $75 mill is much of an incentive to stay...
  3. Also, signing Machado for 7 years might mean Betts is gone in two...
  4. But if there were ever two players who checked all the boxes for a long term high AAV contract, it’s Machado and Harper...
  5. But hypothetically what would a one year of Bogaerts be worth in a trade?
  6. Oh it’s a safe bet his agent has been in contact with the Cashman. As well as Friedman, Dombrowski, BVW, and Klentak. And probably a few others...
  7. DD has somewhat of a habit of acquiring players who’ve played for him before (Bryan Holaday, Rajai Davis, Ian Kinsler, Doug Fister, Johnny Peralta, and most recently Daniel Schlereth), which is not uncommon. In fact, a lot of employers like familiarity. This makes me think if the Sox sign any reliever, the best bet might be Alex Wilson...
  8. It actually seems slower than last year. I’m tempted to go out and make free agent offers to Machado and Harper myself...
  9. Cut him some slack. He played shortstop every day until he was 35 years old and never took a day off. And even after that still hung on for 5 more years...
  10. As a team, the lineup is very good but the rotation is actually quite suspect (after Keuchel), which tells you what is still available. The bullpen is very strong. If DD signed any two from that pen, it would be very beneficial to the Sox...
  11. I have a 5 man bench. Team is built for either league apparently. Cargo was my first thought at DH followed by Dietrich. But maybe the best lineup has Moustakas at DH with Machado moving to 3b and Iglesias to SS. But that’s not really the point...
  12. Ah the dreaded “C Word.” The agents throw it around so fast as well, mostly because it has worked 3 times already. But baseball is a $10 billion dollar industry. If owners are going to try to collide to keep salaries down a few million here and there, I would expect at least one opportunistic owner to break ranks and take advantage of the inactivity. Now selfish owners working independently to not spend because those long term mega contracts are financial sinkholes and everyone knows it? I can see that...
  13. With less than one month until pitchers and catchers report, there are enough good free agents left to make an actual decent team. Here’s my roster. All replacement arguments welcome. C Martin Maldonado 1b Marwin Gonzalez 2b Asdrubal Cabrera 3b Mike Moustakas SS Manny Machado LF Adam Jones CF A.J. Pollock RF Bryce Harper SP Dallas Keuchel SP Marco Estrada SP Drew Pomeranz SP Martin Perez SP Wade Miley CL Craig Kimbrel RP Adam Ottavino RP Cody Allen RP Brad Brach RP Ryan Madson RP Hunter Strickland RP Greg Holland BN Nick Hundley BN Derek Dietrich BN Carlos Gonzalez BN Wilmer Flores BN Jose Iglesias That roster is better than a lot of MLB teams...
  14. Less than one month until pitchers and catchers report for most teams. Right now there are 73 pitchers with nowhere to report to...
  15. Those are not exactly names from a bad club. There was also that Ripken guy who held on pretty long at shortstop. He was pretty big...
  16. Did it really ever look that way? I thought he was a no-brained...
  17. But the Sox just signed Daniel Schlereth!! That doesn’t make your belly button pucker and unpucker?
  18. Take listed weights with a grain of salt. For example, the Yankees list Luke Voit at 225 pounds. No way. If he weighs 225, it sure as Hell isn’t in pounds...
  19. If Harper and Machado are struggling to find 7 year deals, who is going to give Bogaerts 10 years so quickly? JD for 5 years is plausible, and while he won’t be a Silver Slugger for all 5, the DH position does have a history of players aging well. See Ortiz, David and Cruz, Nelson...
  20. It’s very true. Sandoval was a surprisingly good defensive 3b in San Fran for a while. It was odd watching that nimble blob dancing around 3b...
  21. If you’re argument is the Sox need to recoup more value out of Sale, then you’re actually arguing the Sox gave up too much to get him. I agree the Sox gave up a lot, but they also got a lot...
  22. The big difference is the Dodgers also cleared a ton of salary and moved their star right fielder and STILL don’t seem to be in on Harper. But then, sometimes these negotiations do happen under the radar. I always think of Torii Hunter and how he was attached to this team and that team and then out of nowhere he signed with the Angels. And then in an interview afterwards, gave some classic honesty as to why. “My grandma said I’d be stupid to turn down that much money!”
  23. Sale is a tough call. He’s clearly one of, if not the, best pitchers of hs generation. But he’s also looking more fragile as time goes on and all of those fears about his awkward deliver might be coming true. It really all depends on his contract demands. That no one seems to be getting Price/Greinke money anymore boded well for Boston. But Sale also signed one of the most team-friendly extensions of recent years and may seek to compensate for that with his next contract...
  24. Eckersley? Hoffman?
  25. Well, he is 61 years old...
