  1. The funny part is how it’s sarcastically directed at the people on this board, as if any of us have any say. If the failure of the Sox in 2019 is due to the backend of the bullpen, that responsibility rests 100% with Dombrowski and his decision to spend more heavily on a backup 1b to handle the weak side of a platoon as opposed to replacing departed relievers...
  2. The Sox will never know what they have in Swihart unless he plays....
  3. Bullpen is an area where Dombrowski has frequently economized with mixed results. While his failures in Detroit were heavily publicized, his track record in Florida was the polar opposite and is rarely mentioned...
  4. Chavis is the closest to MLB and arguably the best prospect in the Sox system. But corner INF is really the only position of depth we have, with Devers, Chavis and Dalbec vying for 2 positions possibly as soon as 2020. Counting Casas, the Sox top 3 position prospects are corner infielders, as are 7 of their top 18 prospects on Soxprospects.com...
  5. Give Kimbrel 1 year / $20 mill and call it an off-season...
  6. Actually it shouldn’t. But if you want to rifle through some turds and prove me wrong, be my guest...
  7. Yes you can brag that the refuse in your farm is a better grade than ours...
  8. Publications have been ranking the Sox farm at the bottom for a couple years now. Baseball America hasn’t had a Sox prospect in the top 80 since 2017 when Benintendi, Devers and Groome were...
  9. Pittsburgh reportedly likes Sharwyn. But not enough to trade Felipe Vazquez. I imagine his dirt cheap salary and proximity to MLB make him somewhat viable trade bait. But he won’t get LeClerc or Streckenrider or any of the preponderance of closers on bad teams on his own...
  10. The only SP on the Sox that would interest them is Rodriguez. Sale and Porcello have one year left. Price and Eovaldi are too expensive for a rebuilding team. And Johnson isn’t very good. I’d rather keep ERod....
  11. In the week since I posted this, Flores, Allen, Ottavino, Cabrera, Perez, and Pomeranz have signed. And yet it’s still a good team...
  12. Actually, four. I assume you’re referring to Vlad Jr. and Bo Bichette. But they also have Cavan Biggio (sonof Craig) and Dwight Smith Jr (son of former Cub Dwight Sr). While the latter two are not as highly regarded as the former two, both would easily crack our top five...
  13. Not to mention, the Kimbrel types are so not Dombrowski. His history is more being the guy who takes the rags pitcher and turns him into the riches one, with pitchers like Trevor Hoffman, Rob Nen, Matt Mantei, and Joaquin Benoit and a few others...
  14. I’m just assuming the Sox are, like I am assuming the Mariners have at least one top 100 prospect because, well, the Sox and Yankees don’t and all 100 can’t be Padres’ prospects...
  15. The Diamondbacks signed a 27yo minor league shortstop named Jason Leblebijian, who immediately made me think of this thread...
  16. Pretty unlikely Yankees are still a top ten system. Sox are stlll 30, safe bet. No change there...
  17. Or when Dombrowski empties out the pickle jar he keeps his Emergency Bullpen Fund in...
  18. Do all MLB teams own their stadiums?
  19. This is actually slower than last off-season...
  20. Taxes are a form of blackmail. It’s all money I give the government so that they don’t throw me in jail...
  21. Legally, yes. But the methods for doing it cross many ethical lines...
  22. Ted’s head is still better than Ellsbury...
  23. They don’t cheat per se. But they do lobby to have favorable tax laws written...
  24. That’s my question - is any percentage of sales going to the team? I assume whoever owns the park leases out the stand to companies like Aramark or Chili’s or Uncle Blood’s Taco Hut for a flat amount, say $10,000 per month. I don’t know if any of them even tack on, say, plus 5% of all sales. And even then, not all teams own the ballpark, do they? If they don’t, do they get any concession revenue even if there is a percentage in the lease agreement? I’m not sure about MLB, but in Chicago, the Bears do not own Soldiers Field; it’s part of the Chicago Park District. Do the Bears get anything from concessions or does it all go to the city?
  25. Agreed. So if a catcher is dealt to improve the current team, Vaz is the logical choice. If the Sox just want to dump someone off and see what happens, Swihart is the guy. Now, if Oakland wants to save money - not uncommon - maybe Swihart for Rodney? Or maybe the extra years of cheap control inspire the A’s to enhance the deal to Vazquez for Rodney and Julio Mateo or some equivalent prospect? That the A’s have a catching prospect in Sean Murphy who is close to MLB might just cancel their interest as well...
