  1. They also might put the fatter one in the Hall of Fame next to Harold Baines...
  2. I’m pretty sure away teams do get 50% of gate revenue...
  3. Actually some of his loudest complaints have come from fans who were his staunchest supporters as recently as November...
  4. I’d be ok with that. But as far as I can tell, no one has said “don’t go over the highest limit!!” It appears to be the choice of Dombrowski alone. Which makes me wonder what’s at stake here. If Henry doesn’t mind the extra expenditures (as long as the bottom line goes up equally), then is DD’s primary concern losing 10 spots of draft position? Really?
  5. The chances Pedroia retires early and walks away from the game (this saving the Sox roughly $14mill annually towards the tax limits) are about the same as the chances of my daughter’s guinea pigs wining the Nobel Prize for Chemistry this year...
  6. I do think there are a few decent pitchers in there, but it’s going to come down to DD’s ability to find them and sign them cheaply...
  7. See, I don’t see Kimbrel as a necessity, but I don’t like the idea of cost cutting there, although “cheap” doesn’t always mean “bad.” I really don’t get signing Pearce to backup 1b when for less money, CJ Cron, Jon Lucroy and David Freese could be had, and possibly Neil Walker, who signed for half of what Pearce got last year. Or maybe just try Swihart, whose already here? I think DD might have misread the market? But then his history does include two distinct traits - trading away prospects and going cheap on bullpens. He does have mixed results on the latter one...
  8. Short answer: Yes Long answer: Yes, we do...
  9. Ok I give up. The Sox should not be cutting costs in the bullpen. Where should they be economizing? There does appear to be some reality to the Sox spending limits. And while I agree bullpen is a bad place to be overly frugal, what is a good place? I’ll even get you started. While I didn’t think bringing back Kimbrel was a good idea, I did say he would be a better free agent to sign than Eovaldi. Do you agree - closer over rotation? Also I don’t think I will ever understand paying so much for Pearce while replacing Kimbrel and Kelly with Erasmo Ramirez and Domingo Tapia. Was World Series MVP Pearce a bad move? Ageee or disagree? Or would you like to see the Sox trade a high-priced starting position player to accommodate a closer? Bogaerts? Bradley? Pedroia, whom it’s really not possible to trade? Or maybe JD Martinez needs to go? Or a starting pitcher. Maybe Porcello? Or Price? They seem to have hit their limit, and as fans we really have no grounds to call Henry cheap, since he will have spent about half a billion dollars on players in 2018 and 2019 alone. So who should go in your opinion?
  10. The funny part is how it’s sarcastically directed at the people on this board, as if any of us have any say. If the failure of the Sox in 2019 is due to the backend of the bullpen, that responsibility rests 100% with Dombrowski and his decision to spend more heavily on a backup 1b to handle the weak side of a platoon as opposed to replacing departed relievers...
  11. The Sox will never know what they have in Swihart unless he plays....
  12. Bullpen is an area where Dombrowski has frequently economized with mixed results. While his failures in Detroit were heavily publicized, his track record in Florida was the polar opposite and is rarely mentioned...
  13. Chavis is the closest to MLB and arguably the best prospect in the Sox system. But corner INF is really the only position of depth we have, with Devers, Chavis and Dalbec vying for 2 positions possibly as soon as 2020. Counting Casas, the Sox top 3 position prospects are corner infielders, as are 7 of their top 18 prospects on Soxprospects.com...
  14. Give Kimbrel 1 year / $20 mill and call it an off-season...
  15. Actually it shouldn’t. But if you want to rifle through some turds and prove me wrong, be my guest...
  16. Yes you can brag that the refuse in your farm is a better grade than ours...
  17. Publications have been ranking the Sox farm at the bottom for a couple years now. Baseball America hasn’t had a Sox prospect in the top 80 since 2017 when Benintendi, Devers and Groome were...
  18. Pittsburgh reportedly likes Sharwyn. But not enough to trade Felipe Vazquez. I imagine his dirt cheap salary and proximity to MLB make him somewhat viable trade bait. But he won’t get LeClerc or Streckenrider or any of the preponderance of closers on bad teams on his own...
  19. The only SP on the Sox that would interest them is Rodriguez. Sale and Porcello have one year left. Price and Eovaldi are too expensive for a rebuilding team. And Johnson isn’t very good. I’d rather keep ERod....
  20. In the week since I posted this, Flores, Allen, Ottavino, Cabrera, Perez, and Pomeranz have signed. And yet it’s still a good team...
  21. Actually, four. I assume you’re referring to Vlad Jr. and Bo Bichette. But they also have Cavan Biggio (sonof Craig) and Dwight Smith Jr (son of former Cub Dwight Sr). While the latter two are not as highly regarded as the former two, both would easily crack our top five...
  22. Not to mention, the Kimbrel types are so not Dombrowski. His history is more being the guy who takes the rags pitcher and turns him into the riches one, with pitchers like Trevor Hoffman, Rob Nen, Matt Mantei, and Joaquin Benoit and a few others...
  23. I’m just assuming the Sox are, like I am assuming the Mariners have at least one top 100 prospect because, well, the Sox and Yankees don’t and all 100 can’t be Padres’ prospects...
  24. The Diamondbacks signed a 27yo minor league shortstop named Jason Leblebijian, who immediately made me think of this thread...
  25. Pretty unlikely Yankees are still a top ten system. Sox are stlll 30, safe bet. No change there...
