  1. Most switch hitters are better left-handed, so against Porcello it doesn’t matter much
  2. Nah. Play Chavis at 2b. This whole launch angle strategy has me re-thinking the value of infield defense...
  3. Right. The Sox should have dealt ERod and brought up Groome, ignoring his recent TJ surgery, and see how felt throwing right-handed for once...
  4. The only reason to keep Nunez, who has been struggling s a hitter and was never a good fielder, is due to his versatility. But Chavis can field 2b and 3b with his level of mediocrity and that frees up Holt to cover some corner OF. Lin can be demoted. And the Sox could demote a pitcher to get back to a 4 man bench...
  5. Of course if the last 3 outs are the most difficult due to pressure of the situation, isn’t some of that offset by the hitters also feeling pressure? Best pitcher vs best hitters always makes the most sense to me and I’ve been saying so for several years. It does seem like a lot of MLB managers are starting to agree with that philosophy...
  6. Walden is 30 years old and in his sixth organization with a spotty minor league history at best. While he may be doing well now, you’d be smarter to bet against him in the long run...
  7. Bradley is a valued starter not just because of his defense but also because the Sox don’t name any better options anywhere. Even if you move Betts to CF and Martinez to RF, who DHs? Pearce? Nunez? Leon? Are any of them hitting better than Bradley? (Hint: no)
  8. I never insisted he be traded but instead pointed out depth made him the Sox most tradable commodity. Big difference...
  9. But even in that case, your argument turns into 3-4-5 hitters with 2 on base or 1-2-3 hitters with X men on base and Y men out...
  10. Might still be a bit early to compare him to his Hall of Fame dad. Not every legacy is Ken Griffey Jr. Just ask Dale Berra...
  11. I don’t know if Stuart could start anymore, but I do think he could still outhit some people on the Sox bench...
  12. My issue with Devers was never offense. That said, this is a Launch Angle League now. And with this emphasis on hitting fly balls and nothing but fly balls has lead not only to strikeout records for the league, but also a reduced need for infield defense...
  13. The Sox have 5 players with an OPS lower than Bradley. It might be difficult to determine who goes when Chavis stats, but NOT for a lack of candidates...
  14. No one ever said they didn’t exist for situations. The debate was whether or not it was a repeatable skill for a player...
  15. When Thornburg misses, he’s either well off the plate or right down the middle. I was surprised they tendered him a contract, but I think on the long run, it might be worth it. And DFAing a pitcher because he turned a 15-1 game into a 15-2 game really shouldn’t warrant a DFA...
  16. Go where? Pawtucket, I hope. It’s a bit early to revamp the organization depth. But I wouldn’t mind seeing Brewer to Pawtucket and Mejia to Boston. Brewer has options and the Sox have room on the 40 man for Mejia. No reason this couldn’t happen today...
  17. Didn’t you hear? The Sox DFAd you today. You’re free to become a fan of another team...
  18. Vegas has to take into consideration the action on each betting option. Fangraphs doesn’t...
  19. Actually Francina said Miller would be used against tougher hitters. And if those tougher hitters came up in the ninth, Miller and not Allen got the call. It had nothing to do with Miller being the “new guy.” Hader was being used similarly in Milwaukee last year, but their pen has had too many injuries this year and he’s been everywhere...
  20. That all depends on the pitcher himself. Some pitchers get nervous facing the 7-8-9 hitters in the bottom of the fifth and some get amped up for those high pressure moments. And some, like Cliff Lee, just act like nothing fazes them at all...
  21. The Sox didn’t need Swihart’s versatility. They needed a catcher. And the idea that by playing more positions makes Swihart better is laughable. By that logic, Brock Holt is better than Mike Trout...
  22. I would argue his current age is one of the better reasons TO sign him. He’s only 30...
  23. Brasier didn’t have trouble with the alleged closing pressure in any other outings. Apparently Nicky Delmonico is his Kryptonite?
  24. What makes you think closing has more pressure than high leverage situations? Are you saying if the bases are loaded in the 8th with the Sox up by 3 and the 4-5-6 hitters coming up, the Sox should NOT use their best reliever and save him for the 7-8-9 hitters in the ninth because THAT is where the pressure is? Any “special” pressure a pitcher faces when closing is probably created by the pitcher himself.
  25. Yonder Alonso has a .301 OBP, which means if Devers makes that play, there is a 70% chance the Sox won...
