  1. And it’s possibly some of those 10-60% chances that Betts is taking and Avisail Garcia isn’t...
  2. What about them? I’m not redoing all the math and looking everything up just to notice that both Pillar and Springer don’t lose chances to Betts....
  3. I might think CF to be more important than 2b or SS. With the offensive focus now on launch angle, one would expect fly balls to increase and ground balls to decrease in average velocity...
  4. I did some looking into the building blocks of this defensive Bradley/Kiermaier thing. On a per inning basis, Bradley gets more assists, makes more double plays and fewer errors than Kiermaier. But Kiermaier gets more chances. Now more chances does explain the errors difference, which is very slight. (JBJ has a substantial advantage in the other 2 categories.) So how much is pitching staff? If your pitchers give up more fly balls, you get more chances. Or is it that Kiermaier simply covers more ground. I can only look at the first part right now. Factoring in FB%, K%, HR/FB% and IFFB%, the two staffs are very equal with regards to “playable” fly balls in the OF. Not enough to make any difference in the defensive metrics, though.(The teams differ by 3 FBs per opposing 10,000 ABs.) So it appears Kiermaier simply makes more plays. That helps his case massively. But there are two other important factors that do slight JBJ. 1) Ballpark. Fenway has massive walls in left and straightaway center. A ball could hit these walls 12-15 feet up and still is considered “playable” in my numbers, when in truth, it is not. While UZR can account for these being unplayable and not penalize Bradley, it does change the hypothetical “lost opportunities.” The OF wall in Tampa is closer to 9’ high, giving a significant reduction in margin for unplayable “playable” flyballs in Tampa. 2) Betts. Betts covers more ground than Wyoming’s area code and takes plays from Bradley, and on the side with more outfield ground to cover and lower walls. Kiermaier has never played next to an elite defensive outfielder anywhere close to the caliber of Betts. So is Kiermaier a better defender because he has better skills? Or because he has a better opportunity and Tampa needs him to be better? If the Sox and Rays swapped center fielders, which team really benefits more? And which player does?
  5. The I would never say Bradley was irreplaceable. There are a few CFs I agree are better than he is. But none of them are in Boston (except Betts, who is arguably better). And I like how Bradley plays the position.
  6. Are you referring to MLB or Jenny Dell?
  7. Also bear in mind, it’s going to start at some point when you come home from work, and your wife will tell you “I’ve been taking care of him all day. It’s your turn now.” And you’ll be thinking “Hey I was at work. It’s not like I was out doing something fun!” Don’t. It’s your turn...
  8. Then maybe it’s time he hit the weight bench...
  9. Asche definitely. Curletta appears to have had decent MiLB seasons (.865 OPS in AA) but has had some injury issues. Plus he’s only 25, making him younger than all the outfielders in Pawtucket...
  10. He had an OBP of .400 and an OPS of 1.067. Take your own advice...
  11. Times like this make me wonder why Chandler Shepherd was ever added to the 40 man roster...
  12. I’m ok with that. But that doesn’t make it a slight to Bradley...
  13. And that’s when the Yankees will step in and sign him for $168mill over 7 years. JBJ is under team control for next season. How much aging do you think Sox fans need to be worried about between now and then?
  14. Congratulations. Forget about sleeping. And no “Mookie”?
  15. Last week the Sox claimed 1b/of Joey Curletta from Seattle and acquired the contract of former Phillie and White Sox 3b/of Cody Asche. Asche is in Portland. No idea where Curletta is assigned yet. But as he is 25 and been playing in AAA, I would imagine he’ll be in Pawtucket...
  16. Swihart can play four positions!! At once!!
  17. No team will trade for Pedroia unless it’s a very lopsided deal. And Pedroia is a 10-5 player so he can reject any trade...
  18. He seems to like trashing Barnes and Leon over stuff that doesn’t happen...
  19. Y And if you take away Bradley’s best season (2016), his OPS with Boston drops to .673...
  20. It is an option, and maybe in a few weeks Chavis might make the Sox consider that option. Right now, I think they’ve forgotten about it...
  21. Pedroia servers the purpose of being heavily paid to play 2b part time. But unlike Holt and Nunez, he has a couple years left. Losing Nunez at this point wouldn’t be a big deal...
  22. Having more quality arms would be great. But if you don’t have them, you have to work with what you have. I’ve been plugging the idea of using your best arm for high leverage over straight up closer for several years now, and I think it’s really cool to see several teams adopt this philosophy. My one caveat is I do think the sixth might be a tad early to bring in the high leverage pitcher, but only because those dreaded opposing best hitters still are guaranteed another plate appearance. But then we all saw Francona bring in Miller in the ALDS a couple years ago that early and it worked out just fine...
  23. Well, I said Devers would be the only player the Sox could replace internally that had any trade value, and it helped that Cora was infatuated with Dalbec’s defense. Is there another player who’s worth anything in a trade the Sox could replace from within more easily?
  24. Lost time...
  25. If it’s a boy, I suggest the name “Mookie.” Also, I suggest the name Mookie if it’s a girl...
