The Sox did won that series 4-1. It’s possible that if Benintendi misses that ball, they win 4-2. And they even might have still won game 4. At best Bregman’s “hit” would have tied the score. Any argument about “momentum shift” is countered by reminding you how much losing that 18 inning World Series Kinsler game shifted momentum... -

Technically it was a solid young player entering his arbitration years for a solid young (albeit struggling) reliever entering his likely less expensive arbitration years and a solid pre-arb everyday player who plays a position the Sox have no internal solution for (except Chavis, who can misfield multiple positions equally)...

I think the Yankees land Ray or Boyd. I’m sticking to the Sox getting Lynn. Dombrowski likes starting pitching and really, that’s the team’s biggest need. Adding a reliever would just be another arm getting burned out by SP continuing to fail to get out of the fifth inning.

I don’t think it’s shaky, but it’s certainly a questionable move. The main reason not to do it is the absolute dearth of OF prospects in the Sox system. This team right now is more likely to find bullpen solutions from within than they are outfielders...

As an outfielder, yes. But he really isn’t an outfielder, having played only 26 games there in the minors before being pushed out there by Pete Alonso. His numbers at 1b in limited MLB time are more palatable...

Rumors continue about another (Syndergaard) going to a third non-contender in San Diego. Will any teams actually in contention make a move? So far the action has been dominated by the also-rans...

According to Steve Adams of MLBTR, that rumor has no legs. The idea for it seems to have come solely from “what if” scenarios posed by either ESPN’s Mark DeRosa (who has a theoretical trade segment on BBTN) or Buster Olney, who did use it more to counter any possibility of the Sox acquiring Diaz. I believe he said something along the lines of “[the Red Sox] don’t have pieces in the minors. They’d have to give up someone like Benintendi.” This is NOT THE SAME as saying the Mets wanted Benintendi for Diaz, just speculation about what it would take from the Sox standpoint. And he’s right, which is why it hasn’t and won’t happen...

Trades take a long time to put together. Lawyers have to review contracts, etc. Very safe bet this trade was well on its way if not complete before Bauer heaved that ball into the stands...

The Reds have openly admitted they struggle trying to attract free agent pitchers to come to their nightmarish ballpark with short fences and on-field temperatures that exceed 110 degrees Fahrenheit. They paid heavily to get Gray. They paid heavily to get Alex Wood. And now they paid heavily to get Bauer. This is a dead year for them, but a 2020 rotation headlined by Bauer, Castillo and Gray is a great start for next season...

The Padres might be starting to see a roster crunch with their 40 man and might soon want to add other elite prospects, possibly Gore and Urias. Consolidating two 40 man players into one highly ranked non-40 man prospect gives them some flexibility.

To be fair, I’ve been calling him a do-nothing goofball GM for a long time now. Since before spring training. If he doesn’t add anyone tomorrow, if I don’t call him one again, I’ll be inconsistent.
