    He only had 9 innings in the majors and only faced 3 batters in the ALDS (striking out 2). Even if you saw his entire season's game log, it seems a bit premature to disqualify him from a career in the rotation. If being heavy disqualifies a pitcher from the rotation, are you saying Fernando Valenzuela ain't gonna cut it?

    I hatt the phrase "positive regression." Don't you mean progression? Or maybe just progress? Positive regression is meaningless. The word "regression" implies negative growth, so how exactly does calling it "positive" change that? Where I come from, multiplying a negative by a positive is still a negative...

    All the difference in the world. In situation #1, I’m picturing Henry as a super involved micro-manager who doesn’t let Dombrowski go to the bathroom without prior approval. In situation 2, Henry just takes Dombrowski’s word that these are smart moves, possibly with no long term ramifications beyond continued dominance of MLB. And Henry, who is running other business ventures as well, just says “Sounds good. Go with it” while paying less attention than taxes in Guam. And after Dombrowski sprints from the room to execute his plan, I picture Henry snapping out of his business coma to say “Wait. Did I just approve spending $68 million dollars on a pitcher whose had two Tommy John surgeries before turning 30?”

    His limited service time has pushed his arbitration and free agency dates back, but his contract actually expires after this season. Even if the Sox control his rights, he will be a 33yo with 330 career plate appearances. At best, he’s 4th outfielder bench fodder. But I could see simply releasing him. Unless the Sox do something completely bizarre and extend him this off-season for more money but a (much) lower AAV. Like a 4 year $24 mill extension...
