  1. So you think Pedroia will see the dugout this year?
  2. Why so negative on Tito? Hated all that winning?
  3. Hal Chase did receive the lifetime suspension for gambling on baseball. And then of course, there were the Black Sox...
  4. He also seems to publicly downplay the defensive contributions of any catcher who can hit, otherwise he might find himself admitting there were better all around catchers than he is...
  5. A suspension is imminent. But this incident will carry enough tarnish to prevent anyone from ever hiring him to manage again. And very likely, to coach again. He simply doesn’t bring enough to the dugout to overshadow all the questions that will accompany any subsequent hiring, even as a bullpen coach...
  6. The Sox should step back for 2020 if they trade Betts, but it isn’t a white flag for the season, depending on what they get back....
  7. Scioscia won’t work. We don’t have a closer for him to burn out..,
  8. I get the Sox have some higher priorities, but it does seem like trading Betts is more likely now. I just hope the Sox don’t use him to entice someone to take Price and instead use him to recoup some of the value the Sox are likely to lose in the form of draft pick losses...
  9. I haven’t supported Cora, except in the face of some overly dramatic criticisms. I think he got what he deserved and will probably never do much better than The Sugar Land Skeeters, and he has no one to blame but himself. Grady Little, I felt bad for. Cora? Not so much. But that doesn’t mean I think he should be drawn and quartered...
  10. Ok. Why do you think the President or Executive VP are involved or know anything about this? It is funny how you try to explain that you were not referring to ownership and bring about these middle layers, but then end on how this is all designed to protect owners. Do you think Crane, Henry and any other involved owner knew or not? And why do you think that? Or is there some proof I’m missing?
  11. So who was? LBJ and the mafia? Masons? Keyser Sose? Or was it - and it scares me to say it - Heat Miser?
  12. Exactly why do you think Crane knew anything about this? The guy, like most owners, is a billionaire businessman who made the overwhelming bulk of his money in non-baseball ventures that he presumably still spends a fair amount of time on. Plenty of owners buy teams for the simpler reason - because they can. It’s a lofty stays symbol. Henry seems like the rarity in his involvement in day-to-day operations...
  13. Now you’re just being silly
  14. Should I assume the same for Lyle Overbay?
  15. No. It’s absolutely not the same as throwing a game. If you throw a game, barring severe incompetence or an opposing like-minded manager, you lose 100% of the time. Is that true for electronic sign stealing? Teams have been “legally” stealing signs for over a century and it’s NEVER resulted in that level of perfection. In fact, teams have been illegally stealing signs using this same equipment for DECADES and it’s never impacted the game like throwing a game does. And it’s not closee. What’s next? Should we have a poll to determine if Cora is closer to John Gacy or Jeffrey Dahmer?
  16. He probably should ask. Although if he does, he runs the risk of exposing a giant conspiracy...
  17. That it is. While not in the same vein, I like the name “Kotsay.” Not many managers have Pig Latin names...
  18. Same logic when a last place team fires the manager...
  19. Just how obligated is Morrison to talk to Manfred? LoMo is clearly a techie on some level and has voiced that electronic sign stealing is ok in his eyes. So if he thinks it’s ok, how willing is he to throw people under what is obviously a bus roaring in his direction?
  20. Good. Hope they hire both of them to keep them out of Boston
  21. No. And it’s not even close. Throwing a baseball game for gambling gives the game a predetermined outcome. Stealing signs doesn’t. It’s the baseball equivalent of counting cards at a blackjack table. Cora cheated and was fired for it, and his next managerial gig will probably be along the lines of Long Island Ducks. But no need to be so overly dramatic about it. ...
  22. I like Bochy. But he rode off into the sunset...
  23. Really? Price is a 2.3 fWAR pitcher. Start there. More important to SD was Myers’ salary jumps from $5mill to $22.7 mill this year for the next 3 seasons. That’s a heckuva raise for the fifth outfielder on the depth chart, and if the Padres dealt him for Price, they would be getting a 2.3 fWAR starter for a net cost of $9mill per season. Even in limited action, Price outpitched Tanner Roark last year, and Roark got $12mill per. How does that NOT make sense for San Diego? It only makes sense for Boston because that massive raise means that while Myers is making $22.7 mill, his luxury tax number is still $13.8mill. That does represent a $17mill cut into the reset. But if the Sox replace Price externally, it’s going to cost a big chunk of that $17mil. And THAT is why the deal is a no-brained for SanDiego but makes a lot less sense for Boston. And why Bloom didn’t make it...
  24. I’m willing to bet it was the Red Sox who refused any Price-Myers swap, based on Myers not being good at baseball. Price’s contract is 3 years long; is anyone going to be reassured about paying him $1mill/start over the next 3 years based on a couple post-injury innings?
