  1. No idea about the Penguins, but I find it hard to believe Liverpool FC loses money…
  2. Any package with Password that’s good enough to land Marte or Ryan is probably good enough without Password…
  3. The Sox have 14 starting pitchers on their 40 man roster, 15 if you count the recently DFAd Criswell. And those are just the starters. Maybe a few get pushed to the pen, since they only have 7 RPs right now. To me, that tells me a trade involving a SP or two is not only imminent, but also necessary. They can’t start the season with more than 27 pitchers on the 40 man roster. And why was Criswell DFAd? They didn’t need to clear a 40 man roster spot for Oviedo…
  4. Password was never going to get more than a backend SP. And that’s exactly what Oviedo has been doing…
  5. Walks more than I like but his numbers from last season’s 40IP are useless. If you’ve ever seen him - and you can’t miss him, hes f***ing huge - he has a really good slider and curve. Fastball is weak. His real problem, however, has been staying off the IL. Not sure if he’s viewed as a starter, starter depth, or returns to the bullpen…
  6. But we still have the Login. And maybe one day we can sign their third brother The Security Question…
  7. It’s pretty rare to offload a super star and his entire contract and actually get back something worthwhile beyond salary relief. Harrison looks mildly impressive in very limited action and the Sox probably had to take back Hicks’ contract just to get him…
  8. Lowe does check all the boxes for the minimum requirements to play first base. 1. Can hit 2. Cannot field anywhere else 3. Capable of catching balls thrown to him.
  9. Odd that 4 of his 6 HRs came against LHP when Cash has been known to platoon him.
  10. If only their OBP was a lowly .314. Maybe reverse those digits. Lowe is probably a better solution at 1b than 2b. And no idea why I said “probably”…
  11. Red Sox Killer Cedric Mullens to Tampa. Why can’t anyone outside of the AL East sign this guy?
  12. Again, the Sox need minimum wage contributors because they cannot afford a team with 26 players making $15mill or more apiece. They can’t wait until these players establish enough proof of talent if it takes well into their arbitration years. The Sox absolutely should be unloading a few prospects IMO. But Tolle and Early are very likely needed this year. Password, on the other hand, is probably completely expendable…
  13. Disagree. Some prospects you have to have enough faith in to keep around in today’s game. It gets much easier to afford the Garrett Crochet’s and Pete Alonso’s of the league if you have some minimum wage contributors also on the roster…
  14. Well since that didn’t work 60 years ago, clearly it should be the path forever…
  15. Roster Resource lists the following in their rotation - Yamamoto, Snell, Glasnow, Ohtani, Sheehan, Sasaki No one should dispute Yamamoto and Snell. Both are elite. Glasnow? I can see arguments for and against. Ohtani? Talent is there but durability is not. He’s already had two Tommy John surgeries. No one has ever come back successfully from a third. But Sheehan and/or Sasaki? Any definition of a #1 that includes either is just flawed…
  16. So trade ther for a 32yo second baseman owed $90mill over the next 5 years. And then not be able to afford any pitching in that timeframe! Yay! And while the odds are against it, no one knows if they are the next Lester yet. When Lester came up, the first impression of him was less than that of Kason Gabbard. How many even remember Gabbard? But, hey, theyre not Lester after 35 IP so trade them away…
  17. It’s an instance of folks trying to relate a simple concept and overthinking it. I can promise you no one can come up with criteria for a #2 starter that isnt either ridiculous, or doesn’t include Sonny Gray. Honestly, the best definition I’ve seen in hindsight was the simplest - someone to start game two of a postseason series. (Points awarded to 5Gold) It’s impossible to quantify, but really, it gets across a simple point - “improve the rotation and do so by improving the top end.” I think that’s all anyone wanted. Now, Gray does actually do that. But I think he lacks the sexiness many wanted, and as he is already 36 years old and will very likely continue to get older, he is a short term solution at best. But I like this rotation right now. The Sox have a rare level of depth we usually don’t see in December. If they don’t add another SP, I’m ok. Fix the infield and, since MLB is a bullpen game, add additional quality arm(s?) to the bullpen. And maybe a catcher, but thats low on my list…
  18. Did lightning strike twice?
  19. If Lauer is in the rotation opening day, thats a moral victory for the other 4 teams in the AL East…
  20. The Royals gave good SP beyond Ragans, but removing him to get an OF feels counterproductive, much like with Hunter Greene. Bubic has one year left plus injury concerns, which makes him a questionable target. I could see a Wilyer Abreu/Noah Cameron swap, which works on BTV, but it feels like more of the same. Where does Cameron really rank when listed with Tolle, Early, Perales, Dobbins, Harrison? A swap of Duran for Maikel Garcia fills a need for an infielder with Boston, but makes little sense for KC considering they could move Garcia to the OF and save money. They’ve already experimented with this move last year. Plus, do they have the infield depth to cover it?
  21. Obviously anyone is available in the proverbial “right deal,” but beyond that, I’d like to think both Early and Tolle are untouchable. Not sure if Marte is the right deal. Hunter Greene? Ok. Marte? I am glad I’m not the guy making the call…
  22. That does give me pause. Which, really, any deal for Marte should. I think the Sox need to break up the OF logjam. I like the SP as is and don’t think any Duran/Cole Ragans deal is forthcoming.
