    I think the stories about Bregman’s impact on Sox hitters is more of a statement about the Sox (now departed) coaching staff than it is about Bregman. There has been no mention of that side of him on the Cubs, and they are not without young players in their lineup…

    Given how well Devers accepted the move to DH, it doesn’t look like changing positions was something that Devers was open to. Cora appeared to know this, which could very well be why he was stand-off ish in the talks about DH and avoided the first base conversation altogether…

    For whatever reason, IKF was maybe 2-3 feet off the bag. At third base, the coach is RIGHT THERE. If it wasn’t some team philosophy, I’d think the third base coach would be saying “Take more steps! Take a bigger lead!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD ALMIGHTY GET CLOSER TO HOME PLATE!!” But it didn’t look like he said anything…

    Yes. The only others that even have WS experience are IKF, Suarez, and, if he’s ever added, Tommy Kahnle. IKF would have a ring if he took a decent lead…

    I think he means he has faith in establidhed hitters lie Papi eventually coming around, as opposed to unknowns like Mayer. But with Mayer up to .688, where are all those Luke Keaschall supporters from a couple weeks ago?

    They do eventually decline. Bregman already is a far cry from the player he was in 2017-2019. Hes not going back to being that player…

    Half his draft round was out of high school. Jackson Merrill was selected out of high school 23 picks after Mayer and is starting his third full season in MLB. Now THAT was super aggressive promotion, especially with his prospect rankings not as good as Mayer’s. Mayer should play everyday, preferably at SS. There will be growing pains we have to deal with. Thats part of life…

    Was Mayer really promoted super aggressively? 25 of the 36 players picked in his draft round have already debuted. I do agree on not platooning him and letting him take his lumps…

    According to Tom Verducci, most outfielders do those drills their entire career. Charging a grounder and picking it up with your proper foot forward without stutter-stepping and making a quick, strong throw back in is not as easy as some make it look…

    They don’t need to get all 5 outfielders into every game. This isn’t Little League. Bench one until someone else cools off…

    You probably saw the biggest house cleaning you’ll ever see in April probably ever. Getting rid of the CBO right now as well just creates more confusion, and it’s not like there is some big storeroom somewhere loaded with unemployed CBO/GMs in hermetically sealed bags just waiting for Amazon to deliver them. “Did you order the Mike Rizzo? I don’t think it’s going to fit.”

    How do actual MLB players feel about it? I would imagine it’s a split. Very few sweeping generalizations are true for everyone. Certainly some players like having or knowing their role, but others don’t necessarily have to know or care and just want to play. So with the players who need it - and never underestimate the superstitions MLB players have - define their role as best as possible. But it’s very unlikely all of them need it spelled out…
