  1. Or, we could forget about Wheeler altogether. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/12/phillies-open-to-trade-offers-for-zack-wheeler.html
  2. Oh that's not a rumor. I filledout my application. But so far, no response. No idea why they're stalling on me. Clearly they need to get their butts in gear and make a f'n decision..
  3. That might be the best strategy. But right now, the Sox need to find someone to fill his IP from the early season, preferably without resorting to an opener situation, since the bullpen needs a serious overhaul as well. I'm normally not one to rush the post-season, but at some point the Sox really do need to make a move if even just for PR purposes. Joel Payamps and Christian Koss are not going to have any effect on NESN subscriptions...
  4. The new rumor is the Phillies are really not trying to move Wheeler...
  5. Well, only if I supply video evidence
  6. At this point, I don't want Sale to "try harder" to come back early. Get the recovery done th right way and take all the time you need. The worst thing he could possibly do is push himself and come back as a lesser pitcher or one who re-injures himself and misses even more time. If there is a full season next year and the Sox are 35-45 (or whatever) at the All Star break, does anyone want to see Sale try to push himself and get back in there? At that point, maybe just dial it back a bit and see how 2022 works. The actual problem might be if the Sox are 45-35 (or whatever) and Sale is on the cusp. Then what?
  7. I agree here. A failure to win a ring can happen despite superlative work by any GM. But the goal should also be to maintain the success long term and not just go all in for one hopeful title followed by a period of payroll-hampered mediocrity. Any GM can be handed a blank checkbook and put together a winning team. The trick is to build a winner without letting the future fall apart afterwards...
  8. And I heard Orlando Cabrera was that waitress...
  9. I heard Theo cheated on his wife with the compensation picks...
  10. I heard Foulke's wife slept with Manny's wife after Cabrera introduced them to each other. But I welcome better rumors. The widely-reported stories about his behavior in Chicago were all about his selfish play, like repeatedly (and impolitely) calling the press box during games to have scoring calls on his errors changed, throwing teammates under the bus, etc. And as believable as all that stuff is, it's not like I can prove it even a syllable of it. But all these stories about domestic abuse and infidelity are even further buried in gossip, speculation, and internetuenndo (And yes! I just made up that portmanteau!! Feel free to use it) starting to make me wonder if a lot of you were just watching "Real Housewives of the Boston Red Sox"...
  11. So I guess you’re not one to defend Dombrowski’s crazy spending spree by saying “but Henry signed off on it”...
  12. NESN is 80% owned by the Fenway Sports Group. Their bottom line does matter to Henry. How much of a factor this is with regards to Sale remains to be seen, but is hopefully not a factor...
  13. Of course the real reason Epstein let Cabrera walk was probably the comp pick bonus that netted him an extra draft pick for signing someone else. I think in this case that pick was used to draft Jacoby Ellsbury...
  14. Of all the Sox shortstops between Nomar and Bogaerts, my favorite was easily Alex Gonzalez...
  15. I imagine team execs and GMs evaluate players by data much more than how good the team they are on was. Sure Cabrera was on a lot of successful teams. But when people start saying "he must have been good because his teams were", it makes me wonder if these people think think Steve Kerr and Robert Horry weren't the best players in the NBA from 1994 through 2007. Hey they were on a lot of good teams, as one or the other was on 12 of 14 NBA champion teams in that stretch, including the first 10. This can't be just a coincidence, can it? (Answer: Yes. Yes it can.)...
  16. Gloves might not be necessary if you take precautions like you said, but not everyone takes them. and precautions or not, gloves + precautions > just precautions. Obviously being forced back inside is going to be a huge factor in the spread. But back in March and April, I saw a lot more gloves on people, and a lot more curbside pickup vs going into stores. In fact, there was a stretch where wearing gloves in the stores was at nearly 100%. Now, I'd put it below 1%. I think people started relaxing on the precautionary measures months ago. One could argue the increased presence in public spaces is evidence of lessened precautions as well. I'm even seeing Lysol on store shelves again. Four months ago, the stuff lasted on the shelves for a period of time best measured in nanoseconds...
  17. Vaccine or not, seems like that has been going on or months. When was the last time you saw people wearing latex glove in the supermarket?
  18. Doesn’t it also tell you all these teams prioritized winning as lower than having Cabrera around...
  19. I think you’re rushing it. It could take the rest of 2021 alone to reach the point where we have sufficient quantity vaccinated. And by that time, the effects of this vaccine with zero history on the first recipients might have worn off...
  20. Tha Angels signed him to a four year deal. They traded him away rather than let him finish it. No idea if they finally got sick of him (they did get Jon Garland in return), but it wouldn’t surprise me at all. And after that, he never played a second season for a team again...
  21. No idea if he was hitting or hitting on anyone. But from what I saw of Orlando Cabrera in Chicago, he was an immature, selfish and insufferable human being who threw teammates under the boss frequently as he tried to make excuses for his own poor play. There’s probably a really good reason this guy played on 7 teams in the last 7 years of his career after leaving Boston. A lot of people spent 2005 through 2007 asking why Orlando Cabrera was not brought back like it was a mistake. What no one noticed is no one else was bringing him back either...
  22. It does happen. For example, Carlos Santana signed with the Phillies, played for one year and then got dealt twice in a week, finally ending up in Cleveland. Mike Leake was traded to Seattle at the deadline one season after signing with the Cardinals
  23. What is ZIPS thinking? Not buying that a pitcher less than 14 months from Tommy John surgery is going to make 24 starts and average 6.1 IP per start. And if he does, is ZIPS projecting the date Cora gets fired?
  24. Point? That doesn't mean he was mentally incapable of playing in Boston. And you left out he was traded for a prospect ranked as BA#9 the previous season...
