  1. I would hold both first. Both are younger, and while their ceiling might be "minimum wage bench bat," the Sox might be in a position to need people who work for the league minimum. Finding the next Chris Mazza or Valdez might prove as difficult as finding sand at the beach. Especially if either or both goes all Marcus Walden on us and tanks in his next season...
  2. Valdez is 29 years old and is career highlight is pitching 30 innings with a 1.615 WHIP and 4.38 FIP. He is basically the luckier version of Chris Mazza. And if I were a rival GM,I'd claim Mazza before I claim Valdez. Their small sample size 2020 MLB numbers are extremely close, but at least Mazza got his in the more difficult capacity of being a starter. Brewer is just frustrating. His ceiling is 7th bullpen arm/mop up guy...
  3. The only reason to not add Payamps to my list is he is brand new and at the very least, remains untried. But he is 27 with 7 career IP at the MLB level and did not exactly dazzle in AA and AAA. I wouldn't miss him. The same goes for Austin Brice, and the only reason I did not add him is he actually has a signed contract for 2021, so I know he isn't going anywhere any time soon...
  4. I do think the Sox could and should DFA any (or all) of Walden. Springs, Mazza, Valdez, and Brewer. Most if not all will clear waivers and be brought back on MiLB contracts. And any of them who do get claimed or sign elsewhere are not exactly irreplaceable...
  5. I think the world very much needs a Harry Potter-Jurassic Park mash up movie. I would very much like to see a pack of velicoraptors run amok throughout Hogwarts. Can Harry and his spell-casting friends save the school and, ultimately, the world? We all need to watch and find out! Annd almost by default, it would be a lot better than the inadvertently comical Jurassic World sequels we have been getting in recent years...
  6. Absoluetly. But if he stinks this year, any potential trade gets even weaker. And if it gets to that point, best to just bench him as an expensive 4th outfielder and let him coast until free agency...
  7. There main reason not to DFA him is the DFA-pending line in front of him is a lot longer than it should be,,,
  8. That's why I ignore every prospect who has yet to play in AA. The attrition rates before AA make A ball prospects invisible to me...
  9. with some of the funniest names, like Diplodocus. Tht sounds more like something a magician says when he pulls off a trick as opposed to a name for a 25 ton herbivore...
  10. Well it could, since he would be one season closer to free agency. But he is closer to being rock bottom than he has ever been before and substantially further away from his peak value/performance...
  11. Walden strikes me as a guy who had one good season. I don't expect anything good from him going forward..
  12. Absolutely there is hope. No guarantee, but there is hope...
  13. I think you messed it up because where your from, they had the Albertasaurus as the apex predator. It's like a T-Rex, but with better health care...
  14. Which is why he is considered a valuable trade chip. KC really does need to move him...
  15. You could go more generic and just say sauropod...
  16. I think the missing option here is Rougned Odor, whose contract Texas might entice the Sox to take and was also connected to Bloom/Sox in trade talks as recently as August...
  17. But the neutral BTV trade simulator says it is an equal deal....
  18. He is signed for 2 more years for a total of $10.5mill and has an option for a $10.5mill 3rd season. That's a good deal for a 4 fWAR player...
  19. I don't think that will be a factor. The Royals have signed Mike Minor and Carlos Santana. Do we believe they think they will be competitive this year? Now Bloom will go with Chavis/Arroyo/Chatham if he cannot afford anyone else (presumably after spending on pitching) or thinks the other options are not going to be worth it. ...
  20. You do realize that T-Rex was a carnivore, right?
  21. And after 12 years and 2100 IP, he’s still on 31. For a couple more weeks...
  22. SOMEONE GOT MY JOKE!! Thought that reference might have been too hidden...
  23. Or it's a negotiating ploy to encourage Tanaka to lower his price tag...
  24. Yeah but the Sox have someone for LF. And Profar's 101 OPS+ over the past 3 seasons is beatable by a number of free agents. If the Sox are only spending $7mill on one outfielder, they can likely bring Bradley back for that price and he is a better defensive fit...
