So it's the inability of the hitters to try to adapt to the shift, like I said. But then I bet even if the shift went away, we would still see hitters emphasizing launch angle and exit velocity...

Then allow the small market teams their creativity. If you think baseball is unwatchable when a left-handed hitter hits into the shift, try taking in a full 162 game season in Pittsburgh after payroll has been cut to the same amount as the toll on the Seventh Street Bridge...

The shift is a result of economic disparity that forces the small market teams to be creative to stay competitive. It’s no surprise strategies that annoy traditional, boring fans like the shift and the opener all originate in Tampa. Get some economic parity in the game and a lot of this goes away...

Also no more breaking balls. Or fastballs over 85mph. Or under 85mph, either. I don’t get some fans. “The shift is killing baseball! No one gets hits!” Last year the cry was “the juiced ball is killing baseball!! Everyone is getting hits!”

You obviously did not watch tonight’s Red Sox game. And I don’t get all this “ban the shift.” It’s a DEFENSIVE ALIGNMENT, not a performance-enhancing drug. If it’s making baseball unwatchable, blame the hitters who refuse to learn how to hit around it...

Yeah but at 34, a multi year deal of 3-4 years is still possible, as history has shown. At 35, probably significantly less so. He’ll opt out if he thinks he can get a better deal. I have my doubts he wants his next contract hinging on his age 35 season, especially if his age 34 season is a really good one...

Calling up Duran at least has the advantage of being a reversible change if he flops. The biggest obstacle might be whether or not the Sox want to reverse it if he flops...

He might. If guaranteed years mean more to him than salary. The biggest factor will be what his agent tells him he can get him. Also not sure why you think a $14mill AAV is insulting and then think a $15mill AAV should do the trick...

I’m not sure we lost too many All Star seasons from Benintendi. I know he’s only 26, but his current .735 OPS, while stellar next to Cordero’s, is still pretty average. (And is really very Chavis-like.). But really, the guy has had an OPS over .780 in a season where he had more than 120 at bats exactly one time. Sure he’s young enough to find his way, but his control remaining made it unlikely that happened in Boston anyway...

Not enough to put him behind Chavis on the depth chart. Gonzalez, Hernandez and Santana can all basically play anywhere. But with Arroyo back, the Sox have 4 starters plus all of them for depth. The outfield situation has just Verdugo and Renfroe as dedicated outfielders. Cordero just gives them more depth than Chavis would. The Sox simply have fewer dedicated outfielders than dedicated infielders...

Still thnk he gets called up before he gets DFAd. If the Sox DFA a pitcher with MLB experience, has options and makes no money, absolutely zero chance he clears waivers. So you have to be sure you don' want him before you do that. And I doubt they made that call after 3 IP...

Right now, Brennan has a better chance, since he can be added with one roster move. Workman is going to require more moves just to make him eligible...

I think Brewer might get a few IP before getting DFAd. It might be too early in the season to start making irreversible moves without giving the internal options a chance...
