  1. Well, this is his first pennant race with a team that has an actual budget. But I don't think he has the prospects to be the top bidder for Berrios...
  2. Schoop is a reasonable target. But what would the Sox give up for Berrios?
  3. You had to follow the whole back and forth, Hugh..,
  4. Well, finish kidding, damnit!!
  5. Relief pitchers are all role players by definition. If you’re using fWAR to compare relief pitchers to other players, bear in mind this means you are saying that the greatest relief pitcher of all time , Mariano Rivera (19 seasons, 39.1 fWAR) is the same value as Gary Gaetti (19 seasons, 39.0 fWAR)
  6. Duran was .594 in July with 10Ks in 34 PA and he got promoted…
  7. Not even one bad season. 23 innings. That’s like evaluating a starter based on 3 or 4 questionable starts…
  8. With relievers, the small IP samples can be heavily influenced by 1 or 2 bad innings. Go look at Adam Ottavino’s 2020 season. Also ERA ignores how many inherited runners a reliever allows to score and is dependent on following relievers for runners left for the next pitcher. So a RP who gets relieved by a better reliever benefits much more than one followed by a worse reliever. And this is a big factor because of that while IP thing I just mentioned. Also ERA depends on team defense. A pitcher is not a better pitcher just because he has Jose Iglesias behind him instead of Xander Bogaerts…
  9. ERA isn’t a good way to evaluate a relief pitcher, which is a bit ironic as that’s exactly what it was created to do…
  10. Also it appears Cordero has 4 games and 29 innings under his belt as the Worcester 1b. Let’s see how this plays out…
  11. Kike will probably play LF or CF vs LHP, with either Verdugo or Duran sitting, depending on who’s slumping more. Vs RHP, I’d like Kike at 1b, but that remains to be seen…
  12. Santana can be released. Chavis can be demoted. But Marwin has played some quality glove this season…
  13. Yeah I’d rather read moon’s stuff than do actual research myself….
  14. Duran’s situation is so different from Castillo’s that he’s not a good counterpoint. The Sox weren’t trying to keep Duran’s minimum wage MLB salary away from the luxury tax penalty. They didn’t call him up because they wanted him to get more at bats. Cora said so repeatedly. At some point, they decided now is the time. I seriously doubt that evaluating a bunch of late 20 to 30ish year old journeymen was a factor in determining anything about one of their top prospects…
  15. The reality of the situation is, Chaim Bloom was among those who didn’t think Duran was ready a month ago…
  16. Not to mention the number of assumptions that got used as support statements. None of us know when Bloom thought Duran was ready. Not until today…
  17. It also means “a drink, remedy or extract prepared by soaking leaves or herbs in liquid”…
  18. So NBC sports edge is unaware that the Sox 2b is Christian Arroyo?
  19. We can’t tell if he was sold low until we see what he gets. BTV does give him a rather low value (2.4), but he’s been struggling in AA most of the year…
  20. Especially Kopech, given Dombrowski’s career-long love of flame-throwing pitchers. Kopech might have been the hardest thrower he ever had in any MLB organization…
  21. I could see Potts being dealt. If Bloom makes any significant moves, prospects on the 40 man with no immediate future in Boston (Potts, Groome, Rosario) are likely candidates. I might consider Mata and Ward but both are out and not likely to garner attention…
  22. Remember when we all bashed him for saying a top 30 MLB prospect already in AAA should be promoted? Me neither. (Although this post might count.)
  23. So is reality…
  24. Well, depends what’s coming back. Trades aren’t always about “giving up” on someone. Not like the Sox gave up on Kopech…
  25. Not sure why, but Wilson isn’t so widely regarded. He’d get claimed if waived, but any trade involving him will either be small or include him as an ancillary piece…
