  1. The Royals are on a pace to go 43-119. The A’s are on a pace to go 41-121. Those are bad teams. The Sox will be in the 78-84 win range in my opinion. Not good, not bad, mediocre.
  2. Duran can throw 105 and has gone multiple innings 5-6 times this year. Not going to be easy.
  3. They are not a bad team; they are not a good team. They are decidedly mediocre. The A’s and Royals are bad teams.
  4. Made a lot of bad plays tonight, both defensively and on the bases.
  5. Wouldn’t be the worst choice for a short term back-up. He’s not going to give you anything offensively but he probably can handle the defensive side alright. He’d also only cost $300 give or take.
  6. A lot of loud contact off Whitlock tonight; he’s kept them in the game for the most part, but this is one of those don’t have it nights.
  7. No other catchers on the 40 man, so if McGuire’s out even for a few days, it’s an issue.
  8. Same as the other day with McGuire, was it a straight steal or did the hitter miss a sign?
  9. Hamilton has been activated. Kluber to the IL. This per Wil Flemming and Lou Merloni on the radio broadcast.
  10. Per the radio guys, Reyes is down with a abdominal strain and Hamilton was pulled from the Worcester’s game tonight.
  11. If you don't use your back-ups occasionally, they can't be ready to contribute if needed due to injury, not to mention the regulars will be on fumes come August and September. Don Zimmer was the poster child for not playing back-ups, which I still consider the major factor in the Sox collapse in 1978. Jim Rice started all 163 games that year. He was a big strong kid and could handle it, but many of the others couldn't. Carlton Fisk played in 157 games, but the insane part was he caught in 154 games and started 151 games behind the plate. Rick Burleson played in 145 games, missing 16 in July due to an injury. So he played in 145 (starting 144) of a possible 147 games he was available for. It was like that up and down the line-up and when the back-ups did play, they weren't ready.
  12. I just don't see him getting another shot in Boston, short of some multiweek injury to Casas. Sox have moved on from him.
  13. Yeah, I know that. I'll stand by my statement though.
  14. I hope he does put it together somewhere else and if he does, it doesn't matter. His only value to Boston is what he can contribute to the Red Sox, which, despite multiple chances, he really hasn't done other than a good 1/3 of the 2021 season. Not everyone is built to play in Boston; Bobby D. may be someone who isn't.
  15. Hell, 2 years ago, the Braves were 56-56 on August 6th and ended up winning it all.
  16. You know what I mean. We know he’s going to go at some point, but is he somehow tipping the actual pitch?
  17. Second time the Yankees have picked Duran off in the series. Tells me they’ve seen something about him tipping if he’s going or not.
  18. Leaving aside the first part of your question, for this game, it probably came down to finding someone at Worcester on the 40 man who either a) had not started since Tuesday or a reliever/opener who hadn’t pitched over the past day or 2. Worcester playing 2 yesterday didn’t help in that regard. I’m guessing they didn’t want to start the service clock on someone at Portland and you still run into the not started since Tuesday.
  19. Ort pitching and Kike at short; what can possibly go wrong?
  20. Unfortunately true. No amount of training or coaching a playing can teach a kid to throw a ball 90+ mph or run a 4.0 40. Your body has the ability to do it or it doesn’t. You might improve a little through coaching, but if it’s not in you … The amount of money some parents spend on coaching and travel, etc. is ridiculous. Save that up and you'd probably have a couple years tuition.
  21. Can’t play tomorrow; Rockies have a game in Atlanta.
  22. It was over on the double down the line.
  23. No, died 20 years ago. Wonder what Mo Vaughn is up to these days?
  24. Jansen probably not available tonight; Martin to pitch the 9th?
