  1. It does appear that is the case. I'll give him a slight break. I think when he hit against Britton on Tuesday it was his first AB since he came up to replace Holt a month ago. Not very many people who are going to look good not seeing the batters box in a month.
  2. Surprised Shaw's ball didn't deflect off the 2nd baseman's glove to Jones in the air.
  3. Part of the deal Showalter made with the devil in September 2011 (or maybe even before that). He spent his whole playing career in the Yankees organization (never made the majors) and his first big league managerial gig was with them as well. They didn't call the play Damn Yankees for nothing.
  4. For those wondering, the first player was the Boomer, George Scott. Those numbers are from his 3rd year in 1968. Player number 2 was long-time Rangers catcher Jim Sundberg, who posted those numbers in his second year, 1975
  5. So would you have gotten rid of this guy? BA/OBP/SLG/OPS .171/.236/.237/.473 How about this one? .199/.283/.256/.539 If you are a baseball fan, you have heard of both of them and neither played in the deadball era. Both these seasons happened early in these players' careers. Combined, they would play 30 years in the big leagues and play in 6 all-star games (3 each). They would win 14 gold gloves between them (6 and 8 respectively). Vazquez missed all of last year. Couldn't pick up a bat. I think we can cut him some slack.
  6. 2nd and 8th innings were the killers. Got to get more than one run out of those. Once they went down in the 8th, it was going to be down to hope somebody's bat ran into a pitch. Young was the best bet, and you could tell that by the way they pitched to him.
  7. He's not great, but when you only bat twice a week against the other team's closer, I'm not sure you can expect much.
  8. s***, now I have to listen to the effin Orioles feed.
  9. Keep the updates coming; vipbox did not pick a good time to lose their feed.
  10. Always seems to be good against the Sox.
  11. Is it my imagination or do Sox opponents seem to hit an inordinate number of homers that wrap around the Peksy Pole?
  12. Tillman also been pretty good overall against the Sox. He's 9-3 with an ERA under 3 vs. Boston and a lot of that 3 has come in a just a couple games.
  13. Ugh. Breakdowns aren't going to happen all that often. A veteran could go a few years without calling a live pitch, and some young guy just up out of the minors would have to adjust on the fly to major league pitching, especially the filthy breaking stuff. And let's not kid ourselves, just as players have to adjust when they first come up, so do umpires.
  14. That's okay. I was just curious. Most people think of the strike zone as a square at the front of the plate when the reality is it is a pentagonal cube (for lack of a better description). In theory, if a pitcher could throw a breaking pitch that just crosses the back point of the triangle going sideways, it would be a strike. Now I know that's not a pitch that could really be thrown (although some of those lefty specialists seem to come close) and I doubt an ump would call it a strike, but it should be. I don't know if you've ever seen it, but the Toronto home team broadcasts have a strike zone graphic that they can rotate to show depth. It's pretty cool. It really is amazing how much the ball can sink over the length of home plate.
  15. Question, does pitchFX/Gameday's strike zone detect in 3-D or in 2-D?
  16. Any major league pitcher has the ability to shut another team down. What separates the good ones from the bad ones is how often they can do it.
  17. You can't give any team, no matter what their record, 3 unearned runs and expect to win. Bad day all around; they happen.
  18. Bogie needs to be running here.
  19. When's the last time you saw somebody bunt into a DP?
  20. He needs a few full days off. No pinch hitting, no sub in. Let Rutledge and Hernandez handle 3rd for 3-4 games. They can't hit any worse.
  21. In the immortal words of Calvin Coolidge, you lose.
  22. Because sweeping major league teams in a 3 or 4 game series is really hard to do.
  23. Well, this and it seems like the offense has flown back to Boston already.
  24. Suzuki has always seemed to do damage to Sox pitching.
