  1. Other than the Ranger debacle, he's been good in June. He's going to go 1-4 this month with a no decision (ironically, the Ranger disaster). His other four stats were 3 runs (2 earned) in 7 innings, 2 runs in 8 innings, 3 runs in 8 innings and 1 run in 8 innings. Not sure you can ask much more from a starting pitcher. He could stand a little support from his teammates. The Sox have scored 2, 1, 2 and 2 in those games, and may be on their way to 0 today. Today he hasn't been great, but it hasn't been awful either.
  2. As has been alluded to, it's been a weird game. Offensively, other than an error in the first, the Sox didn't get a baserunner until the 5th when Bradley walked. They didn't get a hit until the 6th. Pitching wise, Price has 9 K's through 5. So unlike the game against the Rangers, he has stuff today. The Rays have 6 hits out of 12 balls put in play. Apparently a few hard hit balls coupled with a few well placed grounders, but the Rays bunched 4 of them in the 3rd for 3 runs.
  3. Well yeah, at that point, sure. Got to get there first. A solo shot doesn't do much in this situation.
  4. Home runs can be rally killers. Gives the pitcher a fresh start. I'd rather see 4 straight singles. Same total bases, 1 and probably 2 runs and you still have 2 guys.
  5. I'm sure they do. I'm also sure the player has some responsibility in this as well. And as a700 said, it's a bizzare game on Price's part. Rays are hitting .500 on balls in play play and K'd 9 times, so it's not like last game where Price showed up with nothing from the start.
  6. I don't think they can fine him like that any more. In the old days, the players' kangaroo court would have taken care of it, but I haven't heard of that in years.
  7. If Gamecast is at all accurate, Price is not getting the same strike zone that Moore is.
  8. Dumb play by Bradley. Utterly stupid given the score.
  9. Well, can't usually do too much about grounders hit in the "wrong" place.
  10. Are the hits Price is giving up ropes, grounders, dinks or a mixture of all 3?
  11. Rays are hitting .600 on balls in play. 8 K's otherwise.
  12. Not helping that Moore appears to be getting every borderline pitch and then some. Edit - OMG, a walk.
  13. It's probably Wright's day to throw between starts. Uusally that's done before a game, but if Porcello had come out early, he would have done that in long relief. Since Porcello went 6, no need for that and so he got his work in during the game instead of before it. Honestly folks, think a little.
  14. There must be something that isn't quite right. I'm sure they are running the protocols after every game, maybe there are still signs. I know they check for concentration, etc, and there's no sense in bringnig him back only to have him able to play every other day. Has he played 2 full games in row down there yet?
  15. Except the Rays GM pretty much has a policy of not dealing with AL East teams: http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/red_sox/2016/06/silverman_don_t_expect_rays_to_deal_with_red_sox The one and only trade between the Red Sox and the Rays was in 1999 (details in the article). Two trades with the O's, in 2009 and 1999. None with the Yankees. 3 with the Jays, 2004, 2003 and 2000. So summing up, 1 trade involving players for players in the last decade and that was in 2009. There have been three one-way purchasing of contracts, 1 with the O's and 2 with the Yanks. Only one of those has happened in the 2010s. What info does Baseball Reference NOT have? http://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/trade-partners.cgi
  16. Exactly; you are getting pounded. What do you have to lose by trying some other pitch? What's the worst that can happen, they hit it? They're doing that anyway.
  17. When it's the entire starting staff, there's not much a manager can do. He can encourage/suggest/whatever, but in the end, players have to execute. Quite frankly, I leave him out there to take the pounding. The pen can't pitch 5-6 innigs every game.
  18. Problem is there is absolutely no one to come up and take his place, either in Pawtucket or Portland. And the team needs to fill 2 slots (don't forget Sr. Buchholz).
  19. One really has to wonder about warm up routines. And quite frankly ERod, you are going to stay out there and take the pounding. If you give up 20, that's the way it will be.
  20. Baseball Reference lists Craig's service time as "4.154" which means 4 years, 154 days (a full year is 180 days). So no, he is about 4 weeks shy of 5 years.
  21. One reason I ask is because I'm pretty sure that if a player is released by team 1 and signed by team 2 (thus going on their 40 man roster), whatever portion of the contract is still being paid by team 1 counts towards team 1's luxury tax. Team 2 would almost certainly sign said player to the MLB minimum, putting ht e old team on the hook for most of the salary.
  22. Won't work with Panda. He's got more than 5 years service time, which means he can refuse to go to the minors (and I have to think he would). So the choice would be outright release or keep him on the major league roster. One question, if he is outright released and no one picks him up, does his salary count towards the luxury tax?
  23. I'm not. This is a classic start for him. Pitch 5-6 innings, look fine in 4-5 of them, and get bombed in the other. The problem is, sometimes the bombing is during the first trip though the order, somethimes it's the 3rd. You never know which.
  24. I was reacting to a line drive off the pitcher's hand turning into a DP.
