  1. I saw a lot of pretty weak contact on the part of Chicago hitters. He made a bad pitch to Abreu at a bad time. Other than that he was decent. Shelled is not an adjective I would use.
  2. That was Holmberg's fault for not getting over to first quickly; it forced Abreu into the awkward play.
  3. You've got a very warped view of what bad is. Before today, Abad's been pretty darn good this seaon. ERA for relievers doesn't mean jack, but for what it's worth it was 2.03 in 13 1/3 innings. It jumped up over 3 today. His WHIP before today was 0.975 and even now it's 1.098. Decent enough for a back of the pen guy. And if a guy's going to have a bad outing, it may as well be in a game you weren't going to win anyway. Oh, BTW, Cano has hit a few homers in his career; he's got to be approaching 300 if he's not over that mark.
  4. He's listed with 4 Ks in the boxscores on ESPN, CBS and the Red Sox homepage,
  5. The only other Sox pitcher with 4 Ks in an inning was the anti-Kimbrel, Tim Wakefield back in 1999.
  6. Torre was the definition of a mediocre manager outside of his time with the Yankees. With the Evil Empire, he went 1173-767 over 12 seasons for a .605 winning percentage (with 6 pennants and 4 WS titles). His average record was 98-64 In his other 17 years as a manager with 4 different teams (Mets, Braves, Cardinals and Dodgers), he went 1253-1230 (.505) which means an average record of 82-80; you can't get much more pedestrian than that. No pennants, although he did have 3 division champs.
  7. If Sale went Thursday, then it was going to have to be Pomeranz and ?? in some order or other on Friday and Saturday with ERod on Sunday. One way or another Velasquez (or some other clunker) was going to pitch one of the first 3 games and Sale was going to pitch one of the first 2.
  8. Well maybe Sale said something privately. Maybe they noticed something last time out. The one thing none of us armchair managers know is the little day to day things that real managers know about. One other possiblity coming of be the Price factor and slotting him in on a 5 day schedule.
  9. Who would you have put in? Keep your n mind everybody in the pen was used last night,
  10. Sonwhat would you have done differently?
  11. Well his ERA is about the same as Kendricks' so he's got that going by for him.
  12. What did he do? This was not a favorable matchup despite Gray's having a less than stellar year.
  13. I'm not saying he shouldn't be moved out of the cleanup spot, but who do you put in there? It's not like this team has been raking top to bottom with one guy not hitting. Hanley would be a good choice if he's healthy, but is he? Betts would be the other possibility, but he's so good in the #1 hole I would be hesitant to move him. So who?
  14. Just throw strikes; if they hit the ball, then they hit the ball.
  15. Well I guess I was right on this one, albeit later than I thought it might be.
  16. Hadn't realized they put Abad in Leon's #7 slot.
  17. 7 relievers plus Porcello. They have Taylor left, unless Pomeranz is available for duty. And they have to ph for Abad to lead off the 12th. Not a well managed game bullpen wise IMO.
  18. After a couple innings I remembered I could get the game via WatchESPN. David Ross has been very interesting as s color guy tonight. Lots of insight on the thought process of getting hitters out and pitch selection.
  19. When you're going bad, nothing gets through.
  20. Well I guess if it goes extras we put our faith in Ben Taylor.
  21. I remember Grichuk from the Little League World Series; I think he played in 2 of them, which is very unusual for a US player
  22. Now I really don't like the Kelly move.
  23. I don't like the Kelly move here. 6-7-8 up next inning and he is capable of giving multiple innings. I'm thinking he maybe should have been saved for possible extra innings.
  24. Porcello has to get a little credit here; nowhere near his best stuff but hung around and kept the score manageable.
  25. So who would you put in? Call it ahead of time, not after you know the result of the move.
