  1. That was pretty obvious; don't understand how mvp didn't get that.
  2. I think that sums up the feelings of many of us here, especially the ones who don't think they know more than the people paid to manage, be a GM, own a team.
  3. And even though they only won it once, those Braves got there 5 times in 9 seasons.
  4. Max, he's talking team totals. In the case of the Red Sox, Moreland hit 21 as a first baseman this season (plus 1 pinch hit homer), Hanley hit 4 (plus 19 as a DH).
  5. You need to learn to foul that one off. Game 6 of the 75 World Series. Everyone remembers Fisk's homer. Most remember Carbo's homer to tie it in the 8th (an even bigger hit IMO). But the most significant play of that game was not Carbo's homer. It occurred one pitch before that, when Carbo fouled off a nasty pitch that easily could have struck him out (I still remember Sports Illustrated's description of him fouling off the pitch "with all the power and grace of a suburbanite raking leaves". It was an ugly swing, but as Eck might have put it "It was a beautiful thing". Boggs was great at it. JBJ (and others) will never approach Boggs' ability in that regard, but they could improve at it.
  6. Taken away by two horrifc calls by the umpire.
  7. You are truly the master of 20-20 hindsight.
  8. Uh uh, that had plenty of plate. It broke a ton over the plate, not around it.
  9. Had to try it. Ump would have figured out a way to ring Devers up.
  10. Those were not hittable pitches. And that might just be the season.
  11. JBJ has more borderline strikes called on him than any hitter I see.
  12. Same plan he's had all year, irregardless of the pitcher. 2 strikes, here comes the high fastball.
  13. A Sale takes too long to get loose, you need a regular reliever in this instance.
  14. Mookie's bad angle to the Gurriel hit set that run up. Edit - the bloop scores him anyway. Stupid throw by Benintendi.
  15. Porcello out of the stretch to start. Interesting.
  16. This is exactly why Ortiz would not succeed as a Red Sox manager at this time. He played with many of the players; they are still going to see him as Big Papi. A managers role is different than head cheerleader. Bellhorn summed it up; the only thing that could happen is his legacy being tarnished. Very few managers get to go out on their own terms. The ones that do have managed a very long time and been fired a few times along the way.
  17. I'm a little surprised Marrero isn't at third this inning.
  18. Hanley be patient wait for a hittable pitch.
  19. He is but you don't have to play along. For the record, Farrell has managed the game just about as well as he could from the pitching standpoint IMO.
  20. Fenway giveth and Fenway taketh away. Fenway took one away from him there.
  21. You might see some combination of them for 9 outs.
  22. He did back in the 2008 ALCS.
  23. Hanley's one guy who's not shy about going after the first pitch. His problem is he goes after ANY first pitch way too often.
  24. Yeah but just like JBJ, the strike 2 call set that up.
