  1. We're not talking about sacrifice bunts here. But several of these guys could and should learn to bunt for base hits.
  2. He strikes me has a guy who has gotten by on sheer physical ability to this point. He was the national high school player of the year; he was the national college player of the year. He's played the game, but he's never learned the game. He's always been able to out run or out talent his mistakes. At every level, there are always a few players you can't do that to. You're not better than they are or at least, you aren't that much better. Those are the guys the pros sign.
  3. Lee was never the same after that.
  4. Bill Lee and Graig Nettles, 1976
  5. Who cares? He isn't here any more.
  6. Agree, and certain guys should really learn to. The only on purpose bunt hits I remember this year have been Leon and Moreland. Bradley has the speed to get several a year. So do the rest of the B's (Bogaerts, Benintendi and Betts). And once on, all of them are capable of turning that into a double. They don't have to do it that often, just a few times.
  7. Hicks squared both of his first 2 times up last night. Since ERod is also dealing with a knee issue, I assume CC was also upset about that.
  8. Moon's got it right, who are you going to put there? Yeah, you can move Nunez up. But Farrell still has to slot a bunch of guys who aren't hitting and haven't since the all-star break. Second half slash lines per Baseball Reference: Benintendi .276/.367/.790 Betts .240/.322/.652 Ramirez .221/.302/.731 Bogaerts .205/.279/.587 Moreland .256/.321/.785 Benintendi and Moreland are roughly the same as the first half, and it could be said both are around what we probably could have expected. The other 3? A different story. Bogaerts needs to be benched. Now. He is contributing nothing.
  9. Despite my signature proclamation, with the Sox issues against both those teams this year, I want those 7 games going 4-3 one way or the other.
  10. No, they got a discount because Torre is the once who decides these things. They always do. And notice they conveniently waited until the rosters expanded. That being said, my guess is the results will be announced Monday; that way Yanks have all hands on deck for this weekend. I would not be surprised to see both Sanchez's and Romine's reduced 1 game each (to 3 and 1; given his role, Romine's is a little more understandable in that regard, Sanchez's ought to be raised). Romine will miss one game of the Yanks-Orioles series and Sanchez will miss the 1 in that series and the 2 in the Yanks-Rangers series.
  11. Do you ph Moreland for Bogaerts. I do.
  12. No, he needs to sit. He looks absolutely lost up there and has for 2 months. Playing through whatever it is, physical or mental, isn't working.
  13. Watching Nunez tonight, I want him nowhere near the outfield.
  14. Quite frankly, Bogaerts needs some bench time for several days.
  15. Jim Kaat on the MLB network telecast noted that ERod does not have the same leg lift he did before his knee injury, his turn isn't quite as far and his stride is not as direct to the plate. It was an interesting side by side. But unless he becomes a pitcher instead of a thrower, he will be a disappointment.
  16. Yeah the offense managing 1 run has nothing to do with it. Do actually watch the games?
  17. That makes 4 of them this year. 3 runs in 26 innings. The man knows how to pitch and IMO he is in the Red Sox heads.
  18. Going off the time stamp; you have a very warped view of batting practice.
  19. Almost true. If a player is injured during a series, he can be replaced on the roster. However, he is not only out for that series but the next one as well. In effect, if you are replaced in the LCS or World Series, you are done for the year.
  20. I like the Bal-NY set up, one of them HAS to lose 4 games.
  21. Good to hear. I'm not familiar with Sugar Land, but I was texting with one of my old ND roommates who also lives there He said the Brazos hasn't crested yet and they are waiting to see if their levee holds. He's holed up in San Antonio for now.
  22. Magic Numbers: Division - 25 Wild Card - 24
  23. Well there was a lot of rain in Houston and ... Availability. Astros and Rangers have 2 series left. One now and one about 4 weeks from now at Texas. Astros asked the Rangers to swap, Rangers didn't want to. So the Stros had to find another place. Rays are on the road, offered Tropicana Field and the Astros accepted.
  24. wrapped in a conundrum
  25. The 5 hole has been death for whoever we've put in there; it's the worst hitting position on the team (by far): 1 .264/.332/.762 2 .284/.361/.785 3 .285/.351/.810 4 .245/.330/.755 5 .219/.310/.674 6 .284/.356/.776 7 .242/.306/.700 8 .284/.346/.773 9 .245/.311/.666 No one player has numbers like the 5 hole aggregate; whoever has gone in there has sucked.
