    I'd like to see Bogaerts try and take 2nd here. May not work but you have to be a little aggressive in a game like this.

    Bundy isn't horrible. Looking at his game logs for this year, he's given up 40 runs (34 earned) in 12 starts. 22 (19) of those were in 3 games in late April/early May. Otherwise he's been more than decent (2.02 ERA in his other 9 starts). Tonight seems like another game where the opposing pitcher is throwing pretty well and the Sox slumping as a unit, with both being contributing factors.

    Unfortunately, this has all the makings of a Davis or Mancini running into one for a homer to win it for the Birds.

    There was definitely a lack of focus this entire series. The DP ball was Devers covering 2nd due to the shift; he got the error. (personally, if you are going to shift, leave Bogaerts in his normal position and put Devers/Nunez on the right side, then only one guy is playing out of place). As for pitching, don't let Lopez's record fool you. He's a very good young pitcher. There have been 4 games this year where he has gone 7 or more innings and allowed 2 hits or less. That's tied for the Major League lead with Jon Lester. He's got a lot of there there. As soon as he figures out consistency (and he will), he's going to be very tough.

    Starting pitching was not the problem for the Red Sox this series. I think they allowed 6 runs (5 earned) in what, 19 or 20 innings. Like I said above, Betts being out of the line-up is starting to have an effect.

    And don’t let anyone be misled, the White Sox have some good young pitchers. They took 2 of 3 last weekend from the Brewers who had the best record in the NL at the time. I look for them to be an improved team as the year goes on. You are going have to show up to beat them, not just throw your gloves on the field.

    Were you complaining before the inning started? Otherwise it’s 20-20 hindsight. Offensively, you are starting to see the effects of Betts not being able to play.

    Would have been out if Leon catches the ball though. Pale hose will win this one in part due to smart aggressive base running. BoSox will lose in part due to lack of it (Moreland). White Sox have also made plays in the field, the Red Sox have not.

    Different kind of wear and tear. Hockey is not played every day all year and many times there are 3-4 days between games. There are maybre a dozen times a year they play back to back. They never play 3 straight (and if they do, there was a weather related postponement at some point).

    I would assume Haley will be the long guy for a couple days. Johnson went 4 last night and will need a few days off. It looks like Velazquez is being limited to 1-2 inning stints. Wright is now in the rotation. Of more interest is who went off the 40 man so Haley could be added? The transaction reads “selected the contract of ...” which means he is being added to the 40-man.

    What we saw was a nervous kid. He had some stuff go against him in the first. The wall ball. A couple of Eck’s “I gotta have that” pitches that didn’t go his way (as Sutcliffe said on one to Cabrera, kid making his debut, hitter who’s going to the Hall of Fame, it’s a ball). He settled down and only gave up one more run after that, which is good. They said on the ESPN broadcast that Beeks likes to watch how successful pitchers do things. Given his stuff, I think a good one for him to study would be the Sabathia of the past couple years. In, out, up, down, change speeds. Beeks is going to need a lot of command to have a modicum of success. Here is the debut line for another current Sox pitcher: 5 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 4 Ks, 3 HR. That was Velazquez last May, the same guy many here are clamoring to replace Pomeranz in the rotation. I have no idea if Beeks will make it or not. But I’m sure not going to say he sucks based on one outing, and really, one inning.

    Beeks’ option was burned whether he was called up this year or not. He was added to the 40 man roster in November and optioned to Pawtucket in March. That uses option #1.

    He’s going to have to show something in order to flip him. I’m also not convinced it’s totally a phantom DL stint. There obviously is SOMETHING wrong. We saw what he can do both with San Diego and again last season. Healthy, he’s not an ace but he’s also not as bad as he’s been this year.

    Cora is pushing everyone back a day (two with the off day Monday), which is why Wright started last night. The starters are getting a week between starts. ERod will go tonight and he last pitched on the 30th. Pomeranz pitched in Houston on the 31st

    He was added to the 40 man roster in November and was optioned to Pawtucket in March, so this year is already an option year.

    It is absurd. Just for giggles, I looked up the stat for Johnny Bench’s rookie year in 1968: he’s listed as having a dWAR or 9.9 in 154 games. To borrow from Lloyd Bentsen, I saw Bench play. Swihart is no Johnny Bench on either side of the ball.

    You have no idea how roster moves are made, do you? This isn’t September, if you call somebody up, you have to send somebody down. And if you send somebody down, they have to stay there 10 days.

    Swihart had 16 PBs in 2015; 10 of them were with Wright on the mound. 4 of those were in 1 game and there were 2 one other time. With a knuckleball you have to assume there’s going to be at least one a game no matter who is behind the plate. If it’s dancing late the way it’s supposed to, nothing you can do about it.
