  1. Taken away by two horrifc calls by the umpire.
  2. You are truly the master of 20-20 hindsight.
  3. Uh uh, that had plenty of plate. It broke a ton over the plate, not around it.
  4. Had to try it. Ump would have figured out a way to ring Devers up.
  5. Those were not hittable pitches. And that might just be the season.
  6. JBJ has more borderline strikes called on him than any hitter I see.
  7. Same plan he's had all year, irregardless of the pitcher. 2 strikes, here comes the high fastball.
  8. A Sale takes too long to get loose, you need a regular reliever in this instance.
  9. Mookie's bad angle to the Gurriel hit set that run up. Edit - the bloop scores him anyway. Stupid throw by Benintendi.
  10. Porcello out of the stretch to start. Interesting.
  11. This is exactly why Ortiz would not succeed as a Red Sox manager at this time. He played with many of the players; they are still going to see him as Big Papi. A managers role is different than head cheerleader. Bellhorn summed it up; the only thing that could happen is his legacy being tarnished. Very few managers get to go out on their own terms. The ones that do have managed a very long time and been fired a few times along the way.
  12. I'm a little surprised Marrero isn't at third this inning.
  13. Hanley be patient wait for a hittable pitch.
  14. He is but you don't have to play along. For the record, Farrell has managed the game just about as well as he could from the pitching standpoint IMO.
  15. Fenway giveth and Fenway taketh away. Fenway took one away from him there.
  16. You might see some combination of them for 9 outs.
  17. He did back in the 2008 ALCS.
  18. Hanley's one guy who's not shy about going after the first pitch. His problem is he goes after ANY first pitch way too often.
  19. Yeah but just like JBJ, the strike 2 call set that up.
  20. Who didn't see that one coming? Even when he swings at the first pitch (about once a month), he's not really committed to it. Just look at the Astros' hitters. They are looking to hammer the first pitch that comes in their wheelhouse. They don't stand there and look at it. Make a perfect pitch and they wait for a better one, and once they get to 2 strikes, they foul tough pitches off.
  21. Kelly was warming in the first. And as I type this, here he comes.
  22. It's a reference to the 2004 ALCS. Before Game 4 (remember the Yanks led 3-0 at that point), Kevin Millar was good by around to anyone who would listen saying "Don't let us win tonight" and then added they had Schilling and Pedro scheduled for games 5 and 6 and that in "Game 7 anything can happen."
  23. Well at least they are giving Shaughnessy and his protege at the Herald, Buckley, some good material to write about.
  24. And now Betts reinjures his thumb/wrist. Is Stephen King writing this script?
