  1. If i’m Johnson, I take a 10-15 minutes to warm up. Make the Yankees sit there a while.
  2. I warned you. Lets hope Tanaka has the same strike zone (I’m guessing he wont).
  3. Hope that's true and hate to be a downer, but over his career, Price has struggled against the Yankees (15-11 in 38 games, 4.53 ERA and 1.370 WHIP). The only AL team he's been worse against is the Rangers. And who knows which Tanaka shows up tonight; he seems to be either very good or very bad when facing the Sox.
  4. You mean he's the bald guy from Pawn Stars?
  5. We all hope that, but if he can put up even 2016 numbers it wouldn't be the worst thing. As I said in another thread, I can write Holt's season last year off due to the concussions, and he was at least showing some life offensively towards the end of last season. If he can put up a .250/.350/.700 we should be happy. Some will say he stinks at those numbers and has no business on a major league roster, but in the end, he is a back up infielder for a reason. Fans need to be somewhat realistic about expectations.
  6. That may be Holt's best defensive position (faint praise for sure). But how good is Nunez at short (I don't really know)? I'm prepared write off Holt's 2017 season due to the concussions. He was actually showing some signs of life late in the year, so there is hope, at least on offense.
  7. As an attorney, being a prick is one of your specialties as well It comes across many times eacgh day here. Take the last word, since you always have to have it.
  8. My guess is they will split time, with Lin available as a defensive replacement in the games Holt starts. Got to hope for Holt to have his hot half early, if past perfromnce means anything.
  9. Well, at least you got some of the terms right. Spin rates, launch angle, etc would also have to be taken into account, and BTW, chaos theory and the minute differences in initial conditions does partially account for differing end results. Don't need a term paper nor do I need to "take physics" but I will admit that 40 years out from all those engineering courses probably has me a little rusty as well. As a Chemical Engineer, fluid mechanics and laminar/turbulent flow were more important to my background than dynamics. Doesn't change the fact that you never actually answer a direct question about anything. The name calling shows a certain level of maturity on your part; I'll leave it at that.
  10. Exactly the answer I expected from you. You won’t ever actually answer a question, no matter how simple. The truth is in this case you have absolutely no idea which laws do or don’t apply.
  11. Which laws would those be exactly?
  12. Touche. Add to that what I said before. While he could throw 100+, he didn't do it all the time. 95 was good enough and he had the extra when he needed it. He had perfect mechanics; he also had a great curveball and NEVER threw a slider.
  13. Even if it could be repeated precisely every time, chaos theory also comes into play (in this case, changing lane conditions, slight difference in pin placement, etc). You can repeat the motion while still having the end result be different.
  14. I assume you meant 100-115 pitches per start. The problem with going every 6th day is that they will get used to it; will they be able to convert to every 5 days down the stretch and especially in the postseason? We already see mixed results when pitchers are asked to go on 3 days rest late in the year after not doing it all season. Skipping a start here and there would be better IMO. Once thing these guys could do is learn every pitch does not need to be thrown with maximum effort. If you can throw 98 but can get get guys out with 90-92, do it. I know changing speeds is not as sexy as striking everyone out with heat, but it is very effective (one need look no further than the Sox futility with CC Sabathia as an example of that). As Warren Spahn said, hitting is timing and pitching is upsetting timing. And all old Warren did was pitch into his 40s (winning nearly 300 games AFTER he turned 30).
  15. As a 10-5 guy. he can veto any trade, which means somebody is going to have to pony up more $$$ for him to go. Does that have further luxury tax implications?
  16. Hope you've been following the postseason exploits of our alma mater. The #1 sign on Grace has been lit up for 2 weeks now. Fencers won the title 2 weeks ago, the women's basketball team beat UConn and Mississippi State on last second shots to win that title last weekend and the hockey team scored with 5 seconds left last night to beat Michigan and advance to the title game Saturday.
  17. Actually, the Sox saw him Sunday in Tampa, when he pitched the last 4 innings. He gave up 1 hit, a walk and struck out 3 in that one. Kid's got some decent minor league numbers, so he MAY turn out to be a solid pitcher at the major league level. He throws strikes and has throughout his time in the minors. He's always been young for the league he's playing in. Time will tell how good he is, but he seems to have the potential to be a #3 type guy.
  18. The way people react around here, we'd be watching the Lowell Spinners in Fenway after the All-Star break.
  19. No, he'll get white hot for a month, lukewarm in a different month and be awful the other 4. But seriously, he needs to put it together soon. He had at least parts of 6 years in the majors now, and it's the same thing over and over.
  20. I swear JBJ gets more borderline pitches called for strikes than any other hitter I see.
  21. I've been overseas for the first week, so I haven't had the "pleasure" of watching the futility like many of you.
  22. Well, since it's the ninth inning
  23. As has been pointed out many times, the worst team in baseball is still going to win 54 games and the best team is going to lose 54; its what you do with the other 54 that determines the season. This game also shows you that ANY pitcher pitching at the major league level can shut down another club; its how often they can do it that separates the good from the average from the poor.
  24. Cora may be playing a bit of the marathon here. Smith is a sinkerballer, he needs to get his arm a bit tired to enhance that sink. The only way to do that is to pitch. Or maybe the Rays just have Smith's number. Every pitcher has a team he dominates and one he has a lot of trouble with. Tazawa in his best years in Boston was lights out against pretty much everyone except the Blue Jays (especially in Toronto).
  25. Despite what happened to Smith, this one is not on the pitching staff. Price, 14 IP over 2 games, 0 runs allowed, 1 run of support.
