  1. Hottest hitters? Who would those be? At the most, a guy has a good game and then reverts. Kike had a great July, but he wasn't going to keep that pace up. The rest have been in and out for several weeks now. And with a bench of 4 players, its not like there are a ton of options.
  2. TV guys made a good point; Barnes has totally stopped working quickly and has since the ASB.
  3. Oh crap, a Joe West sighting.
  4. Don’t like Devers in the clean-up spot; he just seems to press there. 2 or 5 seems to be where he goes well. Now please prove me wrong tonight Rafael.
  5. Bingo. Barnes is tied for second in the AL and for 4th in the majors in saves with 24. He's converted 24 of 29 on the year so he has 5 blown saves. So does the AL leader in saves, Hendriks of the White Sox(26/31). The guy he's tied with, the Angels' Iglesias is also 24/29. Chapman, who we would all agree has much better raw stuff than probably all of these pitchers, is 23/27. The major league leader in saves is Melancon with the Padres, he's blown, wait for it, 5 (33/38). Reyes of the Cardinals has a great percentage at 25/26 and the Giants' McGee is 24/26. Mariano Rivera was the Yankees' main closer for 16 seasons and pitched in 19 seasons for them. He blew 80 saves in his career (regular season), or roughly 5 per year. Is anyone here seriously comparing Barnes with the GOAT? Barnes has done a good job overall. He didn't have his curve. He can get away with the curve only better than he can get away with the fastball only, but he really needs both working on a given day.
  6. His next start would be Saturday. Sale is going to start Saturday; Cora has already said so. Richards will not get another start unless somebody gets hurt or a doubleheader forces a 6th guy.
  7. Sawamura was hurt, that was obvious. He should have been taken out the first time the trainer came out.
  8. Agreed, at least Dalbec has the possibility of running into one. He probably wouldn’t, but it’s more likely than Gonzalez.
  9. What excuse. Barnes had no control of the curve ball today and his fastball is too straight to work well if he doesn’t have the curve. I said they can sit on his fastball; Springer did and hammered it. Meanwhile, as you are a poster who only shows up when things are going poorly, GFY.
  10. Jays need not pay attention to Barnes’ curve today; sit on the fastball.
  11. Cora looks like he may be starting to manage the sprint.
  12. They aren’t taught them from youth ball. Somewhere around 15 years ago, I was asked to coach a 14-15 year old all-star team. In practice, I tried to get pitchers to back up 3rd and home when required instead of standing on the mound and to have the 1st baseman as the cutoff man. I tried to teach them no more than 2 throws on a rundown. To actually attention to a take sign so we could get a stolen base. None of it took. According to one of the parents, it was “too complicated for such young players”. Now when I started Little League at age 9, that was stuff we practiced all the time. I repeat, I was 9. Of course, that was in the late 60s.
  13. If they are never called upon to learn how in the minors, it’s hard to learn in the majors. Snd the modern analytics say the sac is a bad play. Learning to hunt for base hits would be a boon to some of them though. Even the weakest MLB hitter was better than anyone else around growing up.
  14. He didn’t seem to square up like a sac, but you could be right. Remy’s insight would have been nice to have there.
  15. Inability to bunt applies to 99% of players who are not pitchers in the NL.
  16. Actually not a bad idea; he was bunting for a hit there but needed to get it more at the 2nd baseman. If he does that he’s got an easy hit.
  17. There’s a club option; I’m sure there’s a buyout but there’s no way the option gets exercised.
  18. With Sale scheduled to start Saturday, this is probably Richards’ last start. He only gets another one if there’s an injury or maybe if a double header crops up.
  19. Verdugo is on paternity leave.
  20. Keep in mind September rosters are fixed at 28, no more, no less. I assume you can send people up and down but you have to have 28. The days of virtually unlimited call ups are over.
  21. If he had tried to steal 2nd, it would have been defensible there. Trying to take 3rd was just plain stupid (again).
  22. Rafi needs to relax; a single is good.
  23. Running Arauz here would not be the worst idea
  24. If Cora had any guts, Wong or Plawecki would be catching this inning. Vaz would be sitting for several games.
  25. Exactly. He seldom hit the ball to right field before the All-Star Break. Everything was hit to left and usually hit hard. Now that swing isn’t there; he’s not able to get that bat around as quick. It doesn’t take much to throw a hitter off.
