  1. Worth a shot. 0-2 count, etc. I don’t like the dive into home, catchers got gear on just looks like an injury waiting to happen.
  2. Oh, I know, and he had those two soft hits last night off them as well. But nobody sees that many fastballs in a row. You don’t see it to the worst hitting pitcher, let alone an everyday player.
  3. That change up to Devers broke a streak of 56 consecutive fastballs to the Sox 3rd sacker.
  4. The real burning question is will Devers see something besides a fastball. After the game last night, I went back and checked the pitch by pitch logs. He has seen 48 straight fastballs. The first two games of the series was all four seamers and last night was virtually all sinkers (I think there was 1 four seamer) from the starter and then back to the four seamers from the closer. Didn’t they say he was hitting .165 against fastballs this season? Of course, that went up with his pair of infield hits last night.
  5. We have what, 16 games left with Tampa and 19 with the Yanks; how they do in those games will go a long way in determining playoff possibilities. Tampa wasn't going to continue a 16 out of 17 pace or whatever it was; the 27 Yankees didn't do that for a season. Unfortunately, the Yanks may be waking up, and let's face it, the Sox haven't exactly lit Yankee Stadium on fire the past several years. Even in 2018, I think they only went 3-6 there.
  6. If the Astros got the same pitching they are getting this week, no they wouldn't. Got to remember it's not always about who you play but also when you play them. The worst teams in MLB will have a hot week here and there where everything goes right for them; you play them those weeks, you're in trouble. The best teams will have an occasional week where nothing goes right for them; you play them those weeks, you'll do okay.
  7. It doesn't all have to be positive. If the team is playing lousy, I have no issue with anyone calling them out on it. This series is exhibit A. But those 2 only show up when things are not going well and they overwhelm the game thread. If the Sox are winning, they are nowhere to be found. The next meaningful insight either of them have will be the first. Just my view; I am loathe to put people on ignore, but those 2 have, as John Houseman from the old Smith Barney commercial, "earned it". There are other posters I don't like, and basically refuse to reply to them (MVP is one), but their stuff is worth reading.
  8. Renfroe has some speed; don’t know if he’s a good base runner though. He is 12 out of 14 lifetime, and Astro’s closer looked like someone you could run on.
  9. I don’t actually see his/her posts; I don’t see dmoney’s either. It makes the game thread more palatable. Of course, every once in a while I forget to login and then their drivel is there in all its “glory”.
  10. I would have line to have seen Renfroe try and steal 2nd. Try to manufacture something.
  11. Yeah. To me, bring an ace is both stuff and a mentality.
  12. I see the Ghost has shown up with what I will guess is his/her usual inane ramblings. You can always least tell when the Sox are playing badly, the Ghost appears.
  13. Problem is no one is hitting right now. Let’s face it, if two of Verdugo, JD, Bogie and Devers aren’t hitting, the offense is going to do nothing, and right now none of them are hitting.
  14. It’s been said ERod has ace stuff; I haven’t seen it over the course of his career, but he should be a solid #2 guy. What he doesn’t have is an ace mentality.
  15. If he’s placed on administrative leave, he can be paid. If he’s suspended, he will not get paid.
  16. Because Cora at this point is managing the marathon, not the sprint. Using the back end of the bull pen in a game you are losing is SOP for major league managers. If those guys to the job and hold the score as it is, great. If they don’t, nothing’s really lost. If you look at your list, the top 5 guys are the ones who are going to be used when the Sox are ahead. The others are going to be used when they are behind. That can change come September, but right now it’s not going to.
  17. He may get a couple more outings (in games like today) to show if he has anything, but if he doesn’t (and he probably won’t), a DFA will not be long in coming. It will be no later than when Brasier comes back or they decide Workman has earned a 40 man slot.
  18. Any announced make-up date? Lots of common days off, June 7, 17 and 21, August 23, September 16, 23 and 27; I didn't check where the teams were playing around those dates.
  19. Lot of very soft contact by the Marlins the last 2 innings.
  20. Barnes will pitch the 9th unless the Sox take a big lead in the bottom of the 8th. Sawamura will come in for Hernandez if he gets to the Marlins right handed hitters. Edit - like now.
  21. Hernandez is the real box of chocolates out there right now; you really don’t know what you’ll get from him. Seems like it’s either great or bad, seemingly very little in between.
  22. He’ll regress a little, those numbers aren’t sustainable to that level. That being said, the angst here over him has been basically unfounded. He had 2 awful outings early in April which make his season look a lot worse than it’s been. May’s been excellent and he was pretty good the last part of April as well.
  23. Yep, now 4-46. His issues are usually walks.
