  1. In other words, he’s actually pitching today.
  2. He’s “working”. We haven’t seen the Ghost either, since he went off on moon the other day.
  3. Safe (an out with a left handed first baseman), but not enough to overturn
  4. Chavis has been in the minors most of the year; what expectations can we/they have for him? Dalbec, in 1/2 a season (81 career games) has the following slash line: .224/.291/.465/.756 with 17 homers Many years ago, a team brought up a kid. He played in 145 games over his first full year (plus a September call up), putting up the following slash line: .197/.324/.357/.683 with 18 homers. He was also no great shakes in the field and struck out a ton (151 times) which was a lot for that era. His second full season, he lead the NL in homers. He retired 18 years later, having slugged 548 home runs; Mike Schmidt was elected to the Hall of Fame 5 years after that, having played his way into conversation as the best 3rd baseman ever. Now Dalbec is not going to be Mike Schmidt, but my point is you never know when the light is going to turn on for some players such that they will have productive careers. 1/2 a year is way too quick for that judgement and none of us are qualified to even attempt to make it. We may like or dislike what we see in certain players, but there's a reason that none of us is working for a Major League Baseball team.
  5. It's 10 days (there are ways it can be done earlier than that involving injuries; e.g. Chavis was able to come back faster than 10 days due to Arroyo's injury). I think Valdez was sent down around the 10th of this month, so he should be eligible to come back either way. Houck has only been in 3 games at Worcester for 9 2/3 innings and has spent much of the season on the DL; no way is he ready to take anyone's spot in the rotation. He's basically in spring training again.
  6. Valdez is doing nothing in Worcester that would merit his recall right now.
  7. Okay, it just seems like every time you type curve, your keyboard is autocorrecting to knuckle curve. It’s all good. I just don’t think that many guys throw an actual knuckle curve.
  8. Max, you do realize that a knuckle curve is not the same as a curve, right?
  9. Pop up to Dalbec should have ended the inning. Everything after that becomes unearned.
  10. Yep, got hit by a pitch on the hand or wrist by a Tiger pitcher as I recall.
  11. Stupid blackout rules; KC is 6 hours from here and I canprobably count on one hand the number of Royals hats I’ve ever seen here locally. I suppose they claim Iowa and I’m caught up bring just across the Mississippi.
  12. Was that Curt Gowdy’s first year with the Sox broadcast team or Ned Martin’s?
  13. Here’s one for you. May 1, 1920, the Boston Braves and the Brooklyn Robins played to a 1-1 tie in a game that went 26 innings and was called due to darkness. Pitchers Joe Oeschger and Leon Cadore both went the route in a game that was nearly equivalent to 3 full games and lasted 3:50.
  14. I put no stock on anything they say; they they basically said they didn’t want to speculate further.
  15. ESPN said something about a situation away from the ballpark.
  16. I’m guessing whatever stretching or other rigmarole McGwire needed to get ready to hit required more time than the normal pinch hitter gets. By hitting him in the first, McGwire could take the needed time.
  17. He doesn’t care. To him, 2 bunt hits is indicative of lousy pitching. JBJ pulling 3 balls back from over the fence is good pitching.
  18. IMO Vazquez is playing way too much. Plawecki should be catching 1-2 games a week; he’s not right now, Christian looks tired
  19. I wouldn’t send him out for the fifth. You want a win, learn to throw strikes.
  20. My wife and I are in “Houston” visiting our son and his fiancé; we will be at Truist Park tonight.
  21. Vlad is hitting everything; he’s in one of those zones.
