  1. Agreed, at least Dalbec has the possibility of running into one. He probably wouldn’t, but it’s more likely than Gonzalez.
  2. What excuse. Barnes had no control of the curve ball today and his fastball is too straight to work well if he doesn’t have the curve. I said they can sit on his fastball; Springer did and hammered it. Meanwhile, as you are a poster who only shows up when things are going poorly, GFY.
  3. Jays need not pay attention to Barnes’ curve today; sit on the fastball.
  4. Cora looks like he may be starting to manage the sprint.
  5. They aren’t taught them from youth ball. Somewhere around 15 years ago, I was asked to coach a 14-15 year old all-star team. In practice, I tried to get pitchers to back up 3rd and home when required instead of standing on the mound and to have the 1st baseman as the cutoff man. I tried to teach them no more than 2 throws on a rundown. To actually attention to a take sign so we could get a stolen base. None of it took. According to one of the parents, it was “too complicated for such young players”. Now when I started Little League at age 9, that was stuff we practiced all the time. I repeat, I was 9. Of course, that was in the late 60s.
  6. If they are never called upon to learn how in the minors, it’s hard to learn in the majors. Snd the modern analytics say the sac is a bad play. Learning to hunt for base hits would be a boon to some of them though. Even the weakest MLB hitter was better than anyone else around growing up.
  7. He didn’t seem to square up like a sac, but you could be right. Remy’s insight would have been nice to have there.
  8. Inability to bunt applies to 99% of players who are not pitchers in the NL.
  9. Actually not a bad idea; he was bunting for a hit there but needed to get it more at the 2nd baseman. If he does that he’s got an easy hit.
  10. There’s a club option; I’m sure there’s a buyout but there’s no way the option gets exercised.
  11. With Sale scheduled to start Saturday, this is probably Richards’ last start. He only gets another one if there’s an injury or maybe if a double header crops up.
  12. Verdugo is on paternity leave.
  13. Keep in mind September rosters are fixed at 28, no more, no less. I assume you can send people up and down but you have to have 28. The days of virtually unlimited call ups are over.
  14. If he had tried to steal 2nd, it would have been defensible there. Trying to take 3rd was just plain stupid (again).
  15. Rafi needs to relax; a single is good.
  16. Running Arauz here would not be the worst idea
  17. If Cora had any guts, Wong or Plawecki would be catching this inning. Vaz would be sitting for several games.
  18. Exactly. He seldom hit the ball to right field before the All-Star Break. Everything was hit to left and usually hit hard. Now that swing isn’t there; he’s not able to get that bat around as quick. It doesn’t take much to throw a hitter off.
  19. Bogie needs a bunch of days off to try and heal that wrist. Right now he is hurting both the team and himself. IL him if he can’t help himself. Rafi needs to stop trying to hit 900 foot homers.
  20. Guerrero is an infielder, Cordero is not. Those who say you can just plug anyone at first are clueless.
  21. The top half of the pen has been fine. They aren’t perfect, but they’ve gotten the job done most of the time.
  22. Ultimately didn’t matter but it did cost Houck to throw 4 extra pitches.
  23. I think Perez could gone when Sale comes back.
  24. Not even close. That team was 83-52 going into September and went 7-20 from there. Heck they ended August 7 at 70-43. That team had a better pitching staff and a better offense than this year's version. That month, they went 1-2 against Texas, 2-5 vs. Baltimore, 1-3 vs New York, 1-6 against Tampa and 2-4 vs. Toronto. All they had to do was win one more game against Tampa and they were in the playoffs. One more win against anyone else and they had a playoff game with the Rays. That was a collapse for the ages by a pretty good team. This year's team has never been in that category.
  25. You have no idea what efforts were made nor of any restrictions Henry put on him. Personally, I think he was handcuffed by JH, but that’s just my opinion/speculation. The only sure thing is that no one here knows.
