  1. Hanley is physically done. He needs to go. Even DH is too physically demanding a position for him. He has been injured too much and has reached the point of little to no return.
  2. 2016 is probably the best hitting year we will see out of Hanley. I wish he had finished the season stronger so that his trade value would go up.
  3. Thanks. Your surprising Yankees battled to the bitter end.
  4. You can't figure it that way. RBI's are dependent on getting on base and timely hitting.
  5. I'm living in a nightmare world. Can't get the Sox game on TV. Instead I have to watch the Yankees on Fox with Don Orsillo calling the game. This is horrible! But at least the Sox are winning!
  6. Which is easier said than done. In game management has very little influence over game outcome.
  7. The loss of Ortiz alone does not explain the dropoff. The entire team has not performed as well on offense in 2017 as in 2016. It's as simple as that. Adding a big bat would not have raised this team's production to the 2016 level.
  8. Go with your gut.
  9. The Sox offense may not be tops in the AL, but they do rank 6th in runs/game and 5th in OBP. They are next to last in SLG. So OBP does appear to be very important for generating runs. Only one team, Texas, has a higher runs/game with a lower OBP. Would one power bat really have that big of an impact on the overall offense?
  10. Unfortunately, this offense may be producing as good as it can. There is a core of young players who appear to be streaky hitters with limited power. They are good hitters, but none of them is a great hitter. Maybe Devers will develop into the big power bat. Its hard to say at this early stage in their careers. The starting pitching was good, but with Price hurt much of the season it was not dominant outside of Sale. Now they all seem to be out of gas. Maybe they carried too much of the load for most of the season. I sure hope the starters find their second wind or the Sox will be in trouble in the postseason.
  11. It was very kind of the Yankees to lose last night. I hope they repeat the favor today. They have been very accommodating when we have needed it.
  12. Right now, sadly, I rank the Sox potential playoff performance as inferior to the Yankees, Astros, and Guardians. Current performance shows our starting pitching to be slumping, and our hitting as spotty as it has been all season. Maybe they can beat the Twins in the Wild Card game, but that's about it. This team really played above its head this season but is looking weak at the moment.
  13. Sale Pomeranz Fister
  14. It is not locked up. They could face a tie for first or the Yanks taking first very easily. Neither scenario is good for the post season consequences. I just hope Toronto keeps up their hot hitting to end the season.
  15. Then only problem with this scenario is Nunez is hurt. I went with defense of Marrero and Young for his all around reliability. Now I'm starting to think they may need Holt with both Nunez and Pedey hurting and Holt in relatively good health.
  16. No need to rush Nunez back in, especially if we want him for the post season. And the Sox keep on winning, so it will be a good test to evaluate the other bench players. Looks like the magic number is more rapidly counting down. The sooner, the better, to give a chance to rest some of our tired and beat up players.
  17. I hope the Sox aren't too beat up heading into the playoffs. Pedey and Betts hurting today and not playing. But it will be a good test for the bench to help evaluate who should be on the postseason roster.
  18. From your linked article:
  19. So the problem is defining what stress really means.
  20. And this article says otherwise. So what is correct? https://www.forbes.com/workplace-stress-leads-to-less-productive-employees
  21. It is somewhat unknown territory with Sale since his end of season performances have not meant much to his prior team. But yes, he is not doomed to perform poorly, despite what past statistics suggest.
  22. But is the stress causing the performance or correlated with it?
  23. My view of the use of emotion is that it should help the player relax and have fun and that is the best way to maximize performance.
  24. Statistics tell us that Sale has already crossed the point of reduced performance. Resting him now is not a bad idea, unless it means losing the division. But it really is to late to give him the rest that he needed during the entire season, so that he would not arrive at September the same way he always has in the past. It is too late to take back the wear and tear he has already gone through from the innings he has already pitched.
  25. I think emotion plays a part in performance, but not in the sports cliched way. I think controlled emotion is the best in getting the best performance. I don't think getting too high or low is good for performance.
