  1. The lovechild of Babe Ruth and Ted Williams, with a touch of Moses, King Leonidas from 300, and Optimus Prime.
  2. I hope John Henry is ready to throw some real money at Mookie, X, and JBJ for long-term extensions, because those three, Benintendi, and Moncada is a core I could get used to watching for a long, long time.
  3. Moncada called up to Boston: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/08/red-sox-promote-yoan-moncada.html
  4. 2 ip, 0 r, 1 h, 0 bb, 3 k
  5. Who knew this would become such a lively thread.
  6. My 3 year-old has developed the catchphrase "You have to keep an eye on Mookie" and reminds me before every game...it's usually good advice. Also, this is probably the best thing ever: http://imgur.com/R8ZBZZ4
  7. Bobby V might dispute Farrell's status as "mother of all dbags."
  8. I wonder as well. Based on the package Texas gave, it shouldn't have involved any of our big pieces (Moncada/Beni/Devers/Kopech). I think we'll all be pretty happy with AB when all is said and done.
  9. Young has a 1.042 OPS against lefties this year...I'd love it if Benintendi does that in his first season, but I wouldn't bet much on it. Platooning Benintendi with Young once he's back would make some sense. A platoon with Bryce Brentz, not so much.
  10. Hanley in LF? Bigger yuck.
  11. So do they still owe him for the remainder of his contract? Although he's not officially retiring, since he is accepting an "advisor" position rather than trying to continue his playing career somewhere, I would think not (similar to how we didn't pay Dempster after he decided not to play in 2014)...but I've read other sources saying the Yanks still owe him the rest of the money.
  12. Pomeranz since the trade: 4 GS, 20.1 IP, 6.20 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, 6.03 FIP, 5.31 BB/9... so no, he has not been good or even acceptable by any stretch of the imagination. At least he's striking people out, because otherwise that matches up pretty well with any four-start Buchholz sample you could find from this year. Obviously no one should be judged on a four-game sample, but at the same time, a big part of the rationale for this trade was that he was going to help us win this year, so hopefully he doesn't wait too long to start showing the sort of results the team expected.
  13. f*** the NL. Long live the DH.
  14. Have to think we'd want some sort of restitution if whatever the issue was with Pom was serious, so hopefully it's not. Every hit, walk, or run he allows the rest of his Red Sox career will be Preller's fault, though...it is known.
  15. Sizemore wasn't blocking anyone better in 2014... I think maybe people are forgetting how bad that lineup was, particularly the outfield.
  16. In 2014-15, in a combined 677 PA's (about a full, healthy season's worth), Sizemore hit .242/.303/.366 with 36 2B, 4 3B, 11 HR, 60 RBI, and 9 SB... which is kind of remarkable, given his numerous major injuries and how long he had been out of action. Expecting him to recapture his pre-injury superstar form was always a fantasy, but I'm glad he got another chance to play, and I'm sure he is as well.
  17. Only put in pitchers who do not allow hits, walks, or runs.
  18. Barring a trade, next year's team will have Ramirez, Sandoval, Shaw, Moncada, and Travis in the 3B/1B/DH picture...I'm not sure we need to commit a multi-year contract to an aging DH who will cost a draft pick. The nice thing is that in theory, assuming either Swihart or Vazquez finally steps up to cement the catching job long-term, we shouldn't even have to worry about the starting lineup for a few years...of course, things almost never work out that neatly.
  19. ^That post was just harmony-bait by Moon.
  20. Yeah, I agree...and I'm sure we don't even know the half of it. It's just amazing to see how far he's fallen in just a couple of years.
  21. Probably a moot point now that Benintendi is up, but would anyone have taken/take a flyer on Yasiel Puig? Sounds like he is there for the taking if any team wants him...though I'm not sure the headaches would be worth it.
  22. What Abad way to start your Red Sox career...really left Abad taste in my mouth...hope it isn't Abad omen for the days to come... Okay, I'm done. Really hoping Hanley is okay...
  23. Final line for Kopech: 6 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 10 K.
  24. Oh, I wasn't necessarily agreeing with the argument...just giving some clarity. Spring training numbers don't really mean anything to me, and the wild swings of Bradley's early career are a good example of why.
  25. IIRC, Bradley "lost" the CF job to Sizemore in spring training and was actually going to be optioned to Pawtucket, but then Victorino got hurt and both Bradley and Sizemore ended up in the starting lineup. I think that's probably what SK is referring to.
