  1. I have to listen to Dewayne Staats and Brian Anderson for 3 hours--maybe more!
  2. All lineups pretty much the same. Be interesting to see if Yost's is much different.
  3. I think the makeup of this team is unusual. Lots of speed, lack of .250 power hitters. One could pull names out of a hat and it would score a lot of runs. It will be interesting to see this group against some super NL pitching. My Lineup would be: Ultuve Betts Trout Ortiz Machado Hosmer Bogaerts Bradley Perez How about your?
  4. I thought Hernandez was doing real fine! Maybe he's in a package for another trade. When I first saw the headline, I thought, "wow, we got Hill back!" Alas, wrong Hill!
  5. You're confused? You should see my red face. I checked Comcast, and from noon to 3 today was a program that's called "Lunch With the Rays!" Honest! I have paid less and less attention to my friends up the road this season. They can't really beat anyone except us! Except for 4 odd years, I've lived here in Ft Myers since 1978. Back in the Day my wife and I rode p to a game at the Trop. An easy ride; the place is right of 295. That was my last visit to Tropicana Field! I'll check out the Oriole's game tonight, but I'll check first that it's not a stupid replay!\ Come to think of it, maybe I was the only one watching!
  6. Wadda ya know/ I watched 5 innings of replay!! Who replays games at 1 o'clock in the afternoon? How do I do my penance? I know. I won't talk about Mookie Betts for en entire week.
  7. Not much to scout. Hoping they would have to use their bullpen. Top of the 5th, bases loaded, nobody out A's 7-Rays 0. Finally Cash pulls the plug on Smyly who looked like he was ready to cry. He really was lousy. Maybe the Rays are dumb enough to use up their better relievers. The Sox should sweep this three game series and go into the break with momentum.
  8. What's that got to do with Vin Scully? The games' the thing! Bottom of the 10th, 4-4. 31 strike-outs so far. Record for Dodger Stadium is 32. Routing for the Dodgers? You bet!
  9. The greates invention since the Apple, was Extra Innings broadcast network. Especially for old farts whose exercise consists of hobbling back and forth to the dumpster once a day). Today the Orioles are playing the Dodgers and both feeds are available. One would have to be an idiot not to choose Vince Scully. No bulls--t from two other former players or would-be players. Just baseball. All by himself, and you don't miss a thing. As much as I like both Eck and Remy, a little goes a long way. I'll take a solo like Scully anytime!
  10. Won't the allstar balloting be announced just before our game starts? Will the players be made aware of the results? I were Mookie, I think I'd be a little anxious.
  11. Well, your history teacher was talking about history, not the future. I think Price knew what he was talking about. However, I saw a lot of him when he was with the Rays, and what is missing is the 97-98 heater.
  12. Re/Betts, he would do a lot more for the team hitting either in front of or behind Ortiz. 3 and 4 would be ideal. Either way, but probably Betts 3rd. It's almost sacred that your two best power (or reliable) hitters go back-to-back. Ruth/Gehrig, Williams/Foxx, etc. Sure, with Holt bacl and Leon looking like we thought Panda would, I love the lineup. But there never was one that couldn't be made better, and a big time slump (which have been having until the last two day) is usually the time shake-ups occur. Do I over-react? Absolutely. I've probably seem too much baseball. Too many situations to compare with and, as you indicate, that's not very fair. I love to do it, anyway. And, Durocher may not have been the best example. But his middle name was "fire" and JF's middle name is "get along".
  13. I'm beginning to think Swihart is the one who would bring a good starting pitcher. Leon passes my eye test. He is built a little like Panda; a smaller and far more fit version. Swihart is the only highly promising young player that would not be missed that much. Imagine me saying that a month ago? I am still a big fan of Swihart, but I see no other option. Leon has been a gift from the Gods!
  14. It's already lasted longer than I thought it would. He's not going away, and I would be surprised if he catche 3 out every 5 games. I hope so. We need someont to hit from of Betts. He's doing just fine, thank you!
  15. I think that was Mookie's first error of the season?
  16. If you are just tuning in, Sox fans, the Sox ha 2 singles, 2 walks and double in the 1st inning. And scored one run. I look at the lineup every day, and Betts is still being wasted in the lead-off spot. He has GOT to be stuck in there right next to Ortiz! JF is so stubborn. Maybe the next guy will know how to utilize his players.
  17. What happened to ol' Kinface. I miss him! I want to tell him how and why the Sox should shake up their batting order order, and why Leon and Hernandez should have regular jobs!
  18. Re/Leon, I think both he and Hernandez will stay on the 25-man roster. I love Hernandezs' aggressiveness. He has a very good bat. Where have these two been hiding?
  19. There is no way Hanigan gets the 2 spot. Vazquez will be spliting with Leon, if this keeps up. I had no idea this guy was this good.
  20. Mookie still in the lead-off spot. How unimaginative can JF get? Maybe he'll drive in another run today, but it could tahe a HR and 2 doubles. He and Ortiz should be back to back. Does JF ever look at the numbers? Does he know that the best (or second best) hitter on the eam who has poewr is wasted in the lead off spot. He;s got Holt, who takes a lot of pitches and is a singles hitter or Bradley. Betts is wasted up there!
  21. A day that will live in infamy (to re-coin a phrase). I, for one, learned a lot from that game. Without naming names, I have come to the conclusion that several players on this team have a poor mindset, and give up when the game is finally out of reach. A few did not. While it's not fair to directly blame JF for this outrage, but it is still a fact that JF is too nice a guy to be managing a bunch of kids. I look at him on the steps of the dugoutm and see Leio Durocher across from him in the other dugout saying, "John. nice guys finish last.)
  22. Mookie: 2 doubles and a home run, and he has i RBI for the night, 1!!!!!. And JF (and who knows how many of the bguys on this board) are happy with him in the leadoff spot, Why? Because was ordained in stone last year. "When will they ever learn, when will they ever learn"!!!
  23. I don't think I;ve so many middle-of-the-plate fstballs, straight as an arrow, looked at for called strikes. Especially Brentz and Ramiriz. I've been ranting for Mookie to get more aggressive, he takes the second pitch and hits it off the wall. He's learning! But Hanley is hopeless. Swing Man Swing.
  24. If they'd develop a decent curve ball and dump the slider they'd all last longer. College coaches take heed (and learn something)
