    Last night (Monday, 6/6), I watched a guy who is 2-6 (ERA 6.51) pitch a gem while beating KC. I don't think one pitch exceeded 90, and no more than 3 piches were in the middle of the plate. Emulating a lousy commercial that's now on about every 2o minutes, "It's not how hard you throw, it's where you throw no matter how hard, as long as it's not the same speed as the previous pitch. Buchholz had a one inning stint several days ago, where he did just that and got three quick outs incl 2 pop-ups. I think the Red Sox need somebody to come in and teach these guys how to pitch. (Instead of sitting in the dugout with a f----g clip board)

    I guess Leon is more expendable than Vazquez. The last thing we need is for this young catcher to wind up with sore neck, arms, legs, whathaveyou and join the others on the DL. I think Wright has to make some adjustments.

    Flip a coin. Probably Leon, so as to give Vazqez a day off. Who caught him in Pawtucket? And I assume they would rather not see this young man get his neck come un-glued.

    Where's Marabelli? There must be someone around who can catch this guy. Zero earned runs. Many of those passed balls were catcheable.

    Interesting. I saw a "famous" RS game in Comiskey in 1967. Elston Howard was our catcher then (How did he get away from the Yankees, I wonder) Anyway it was an important game late in the season, and we (my young son and I drove from Sandusky, Ohio the day before the game. I think the motel cost us about 6 bucks! I took him to the harness races the night before. Our right fielder won or saved the game. I don't remember how, or even his name!

    Many thanks! I see that game went 3 hrs and 20 minutes. Not much has changed! Since I got off the boat, from Germany, on Sept. 8 (and discharged September 10, I guess that wasn't the game. The only other thing I remember as a certainty was that Joe was just back from a "long" layoff because of an injury. We couldn't have been in Cam Kilmer getting discharge papers, etc, in the AM, and at Fenwy in the afternoon! That's for sure.

    I was in Sandusky from late 1962 until mid-1967. Took my son to a couple of games each year. Also, in '67 once to Comiskey to see the Sox. And once to Toledo to see the the RS farm time (especially Reggie Smith, the coming phenom). Thanks for the memories!

    With Papi on the bench vs NL teams, I wouldn't mind seeing a 3-4-5 of Bogaert-Bradley-Betts (or, make that Betts-Bradley-Bogearts). Not much difference. For PR purposes call it the BBB lineup! Of course as long as we are depending on two Good starting Pitchers, one to be seen later, and two that belong in Pawtucket, I guess we'd better get use to a lot more 10-9 games!

    Agree 100%. No pitcher perfectly locates every pitch. Ut is easier to miss than to hit that exact spot. Mookie is learning to see the mistakes while at the same time developing more and more power. a 'pocket' Willie Mays in the making. Enjoy it!

    Thanks for the memory. I got marreid in July 1948 in Germany, Came back i early September. Took my wife, Erika, to Fenway witthin days after we got back. Great seats, 1st base line. Joe DiMaggio had just returned after an injury. He homered while my wife (now pregnant) knitted from the first pitch to the last. The two events linger in my memory, while the winner, score etc. are all forgotten. (And I'm not interested enough to go Google my brains out trying to find out!

    You can have Kapler, Nixon and Ellis B. How old is this kid? He's going to make us forget a lot of good players. This guy is very special, and some of us recognized it over a year ago. His talents are obvious, and as good as I have ever seen.

    Anybody remember their first major league game? Mine was in 1934. My Dad and I got off a streetcar out on Commonwealth Ave, and walked down to Braves Field. I was nine. We were in the process of moving from Keene, NH to Somerville. My dad decided the move would be easier for me if I could quickly get acclimated. Left field bleachers. My hero, Wally Berger, almost within touching distance. He didn't hit a HR that day, and one of the few things that stuck was a line drive by Ernie Lombardi that I kept telling my mother banged off the left field fence, and never got more than 3 feet off the ground. I am now almost 92 and living in Ft. Myers; still living and dying with the Sox.

    The difference in competition is huge. Would the Cubs be atop the AL East if they played half their games there? I don't think so!

    I just what they use as a criteria. Is it a combination of Power Pitching and Power Hitting? Dizzy Dean and Walter Johnson were “power pitchers.” Ruth, Gehrig, Foxx were “power hitters.” You knew this because you saw it. They already have too many stats; to come along with one that has no basis, and nobody knows what constutes “Power Ratings” makes no sense except to sell ad space/

    Check the interleague play stats. There may be 6 NL teams that can even begin to compare with the AL teams. That means the Cubs, Pirates, and what-have-you are playing lousy team more than half the time. Bottom Line: Saying the Cubs have a more powerful lineup than the RS is insane.

    The Cubs are in the National League. They play one stiff after another. Plus doesn't "power" mean "power"? What's ERA got to do with Powere?
