  1. What if it's Bradley and Bogaerts? Would Lindor do? Forget upgrading the pitching. Someone in the FO has a things about lefties. Lester, Hill and Miller have done just fine elsewhere. That's not a coincidence, that's incompetence.
  2. Pay attention, D.D. to someone who knows what he's talking about: Bradley and Bogaerts for Lindor. Who knows, maybe Cleveland will go for it!
  3. You guys are going to think I'm crazy (again), but you might want to think twice" I wonder if Cleveland would take Bradley and Bogaerts for Lindor. They would be getting last year's all star SS plus lots of potentil, and we would be getting a future MVP. This guy is a switch hitting Mookie Betts. Equal speed, equal fielding capability. We'd put Beninti in CF, an d not lose a thing.
  4. Isn't this kid Lindor a mirror image of Mookie? What a left-right combo that would be. let's make a deal! It wouldn't surprise me to see this guy squeeze himself into the MVP conversation.
  5. Yes, my first game was in 1932. At Braves Field. I remember the year, and that it was mid summer. We were moving from Keene, NH., where I was born, to Somerville where I grew up. My father worked on the railroad and he took me down to Boston before we moved. The idea being to keep me from being traumatized, I guess. He took me a game because I spent every decent day playing somewhere. My first hero was Wally Berger. Fox was the best RH hitter who ever played the game. His longevity was something else. It would be difficult to chose between Foxx and Gehrig. I think lefties always have had a little advantage. There are a helluva lot more RH pitchers than there are LH pitchers. It's been a long, long time, and I know sometimes memory banks play tricks sometimes. You remember what you want to remember, I guess. My father took me to at least 6 to 8 games a year. Almost always on a Sunday. At that time he had a steady run, and Sundays was his day off. When Cleveland came to town, it seemed that it was a tradition that Grove would pitch, and Cleveland sometimes arranged their staff so he would face Feller. Reason? The Gate! Ticket prices peaked at about $.55 for the grandstand, and when you were making $75 every two weeks, that was a lot of money. I hope some others here who were born in the earl twenties could add to this. Thanks for asking.
  6. Sox Greatest Hitter of All Time We Sox fans will miss David Ortiz. Probably as much as we missed Ted Williams and, before him, Jimmie Foxx. So, who was the greatest hitter of the three? Ted? Or, just maybe, Foxx. Here are some very typical Foxx numbers for 1929 and, ten years later, 1939: Games BA HR SLG OPS BB K 1929 .354 33 .635 .463 103 70 1939 .360 35 .694 .464 89 72 From one decade to another! Some day I'll do a similar look at Ted's. I have never paid much attention to WAR (too complicated), but if one subtracted the difference between BB and K's, then multiplied that with SLG, wouldn't that tell it all? What really startled me was the numbers ten years apart!
  7. I remember you were one of the very few who would even consider it because of his age. The issue of his being guaranteed a starter role was mentioned, but the way I heard it is that he wanted to considered a member of the starting rotation until, or unless, he showed he couldn't handle it. If it was unconditional guarantee then I could see saying 'goodbye', but from what I heard (or read) that wasn't quite the case. Ah well, Lester's gone, too. The old Connie Mack remark that pitching was 70% of the game, it's truer today then it ever was. Ted Williams said, when he retired, that he was getting out just in time, the slider was killing him! The slider is also killing the young pitchers. Who doesn't come up with sore arms these days. Whp goes out and throws 300 pitches anymore? The Staff might have to be renamed The Platoon pretty soon.
  8. How about Rich Hill! People on the old board called me all kinds of names when I said, "give hime the 6 that he wants, and let's get on with it!" He was the best pitcher in baseball for the entire month of September, 2015, and the Sox Genius Board said, "so long, Rich, you're too old!" (Jackasses)
  9. Young Lindor is a switch hitting Mookie Betts. They even look alike! Go get him, D.D.! Offer Bogy and Bradley. The Guardians COULD bite!
  10. Young Lindor is a switch hitting Mookie Betts. They even look alike! Go get him, D.D.! Offer Bogy and Bradley. The Guardians COULD bite!
  11. Watching Miller, Lester and one or two other pitchers this post-season makes me wonder who makes the pitching decisions.
  12. I have not been privy to plaer development meetings, etc., but there has been an emphasis on young , athletic, prospects that can run, hit, play most any position. The problem is they can't pitch. These playoff games are shouting, PITCHING. Maybe it's moved to 80? of he game. One man, GM or not, can't possib;y keep track of and evaluate, the thousands ofyoung propects coming from Key West to the South Pole and every where in between. This Guardians SS camee right out of the blue! He looks like Mookie and hits like Mookie, (Although from the left) Go get this guy!
  13. I think there is a 60-40 chance that Pablo will bounce back. I think there is a 60-40 chance that JBJ will not.
  14. Wanna trade? Bogaerts and Bradley for Lindor. This Guardians SS (lefty hitter) is the mirror image of Mookey Betts. Problem? Francona would never go for it! He's not looking at WAR, he's looking at flesh and blood (and. from up close)
  15. I'm usually as optimistic about the next season as anyone. But I just think there are far too many weaknesses. And in some places we didn't expect. We are taking three LH hitters out of the lineup, not just one. The at bats of Leon and JBJ were not accidents, They have proven they can be pitched to. We almost have to get Encanarcion in order to have any chance at all. I think spring training will see more attention paid to Pablo, because 3B needs fixing. I see the real possibility that opening day will see, Pablo, Bogie, Pedrois and Hanley around the infield, and Swihart, Benintendi and Betts in the outfield, and Vazquez behind the plate. Someday tell me why the pitching will be better. Trades? They better not trade off their MVP candidate as some people have suggested here. That's probably the nuttiest thing they could do all winter!
  16. W We'll see. What he did in the spring was fantastic. Then the league finally caught on. One month doth not a season make. I would try like hell to get Chris Sale for him. But, then again, that's a very optimistic hope.
  17. I would sooner give up on JBJ than I would Swihart. My guess for the OF as spring training comes to a close would be Swihaer/Young, in left, Benintendi in CF and Betts right where he belongs in RF. I don't know what we could get for Bradley, but I don't think it would be much. He may not be a hopeless case, but pretty darn close to it.
  18. I wondere where JBJ will be next year. I don't think he will be in CF for the RS. 7 Ls in 9 ABs?
  19. Has JBJ has been taking lessons from Moncada? Benintendi will be our CF next year. But he's not the only one. Three hitters saw nine straight strikes that inning. One K, 2 pop outs. Holt took 3 pichces dead center, and the bat never left his shoulder. I think Benidenti has played himself into the 2017 CF spot.
  20. "That was a dazzling play by the Cleveland shortstop", THe was standing on second base when the base when the ball was hit right at him!
  21. One of these jackasses, doesn't think we know a high fastball when we see it!
  22. These announcers are the least preparedf I've seen all year The wind, The wind Up? And that was only the beginning.
  23. The last two times I tried to connect, I got flasjong lights and huge "Call this Number" business. Twice was enough. The only way I got out of it was by pulling the plug. Everything was totally frozen.
  24. I would, but I don't want to take the chance. The last two times I tried it, I got wild Call this number flashing lights. I had to pull the plug to get rid of it. No more. Twice was one too many times. Sorry, hit the wrong button!
  25. I'm not sure I will. Frankly you're one of the few I look for. The others seem to have taken their business else where. Whoever runs this show has never bothered to access my image. Also it took about 4 months before I got out of the rookie class! My age probably has smething to do with it. I'll wager no one else on this this post had sat in the left field bleachers at Braves Field during the years Wally Berger was hitting 30+ home runs every year. (about the 3rd or 4th inning, the ushers would open the LF bleachers for us kids. We'd the join the other 50 fans.)
