  1. And I agree.
  2. My Mom would have said, "anybody who talks about trading Mookie Betts should have he is washed out."
  3. QUOTE=Wade Boggs;1043415]He got injured and was lost for the season playing LF. A gut feeling he belongs behind the plate.Swihart poved proved last year, beyond any doubt[. that he is a lousy catcher, and a good left fielder.
  4. I agree! I can't understand why they'd even think about it.
  5. The future is very bright; you're right on! I have several concerns, however, but they can easily be overcome. One is with JBJ, and the other is with Kimbrel. Kinbrel reminds me of Dick Radatz. When he was firing on all cylinders, there was no one better, When he lost his fastball. (It was still 95 but unable to find the plate) Kimbrel looked a lot like that several times last year. Inconsistency is not a trait we want to see out of a closer. Or, a center fielder for that matter.
  6. How far are you from Ft Myers? it'll be about 82 here today. Still shorts weather.
  7. Anyone else a little nervous about Kimbrel. I'm not taking him for granted by a lomg shot. A little remindful of the 105 m.p.h. thrower, Dick Radatz. Gret until he could no longer find the plate. Kimbrel's ERA from 2012 looks like this: 2012----1.01 2013----1.21 2014----1.60 2015----2.56 2016----3.40 One mor jump like that, and we'll need a new closer.
  8. JBJ struggles with everybody,I'd let him do his struggling in Pawtucket until he gains at least a little consistency. I guess the bosses have forgotten how well Swihart hit and played LF last year before he was hurt. And he was watched closely with every move he made. Opening day should see an outfield of Swihart, Benintendi and Betts. Vazquez gets at least a month's trial. Panda about the same. Tell Swihart to throw away his catcher's mitt. Originally, he was to be a "try out" behind the plate. Didn't work, forget it. He was terrible right from the start. and looked great in left. Are these people blind? This is now one helluva pitching staff. Don't f--k it up, John
  9. Plug Benintendi into CF and Swihart into LF, and the rest is just fine. The brass will look at Swihart's numbers in LF last year, and get tired of watching JBJ's pathetic swings, and this will be the result. I hope I'm wrong! JBJ seems like a helluva nice guy.
  10. Great trade as it stands; however, I have given up on JBJ and would have prefered he be in there rather than Mancada. Other trade (Shaw) was just as good as this one, I think
  11. Stay healthy? I think we've heard that song too may times all ready. He doesn't have to. Just being healthy enough to help get them to one WS, and he'll have earned his $. Which is exactly what he would have dome for the Sox for 1/2 that!
  12. Any and all ideas about Swihart being a platoon player. He was improving by leaps and bounds when he was hurt, In 2015 (305 AB) he had 77K's and 18 walks. Im 2016 (74 AB's ---what's that, about 2 weeks) he had 17 K and 11 walks. His OPB was was 50 points, and he was making plays in LF. Platoon? He's a switch hitter! And trying to make a catcher out of him is not an option. He was a terrible catcher. Improvent at the plate when he stopped thing of himselaf as a slugger, and redression (if anything) behind the plate. He belongs in LF with Benintendi and Betts in CF and RF. Trade Bradley, not Swihart.
  13. He was a far better left fielder than he was a catcher. But, aside from that, good hitting switch hitters are hard to find. And he is well into the early stages of development. He could also serve as the emergency 3rd catcher, thus saving a spot on the active roster.
  14. Well, they didn't listen to me before, I guess they won't this time, either! http://www.espn.com/blog/mlb/rumors/post/_/id/31336/mlb-rumor-central-market-emerging-for-rich-hill For pete's sake, hang on to Swihart! Two years from now, they;ll be trying to get him back!
  15. Moy even worth talking about. Would be like trying to make a catcher out of Swihart again.
  16. Vazquez will be the No. 1 carcher. No doubt about that, Swihart's catching numbers were not bad, but he never looked like he'd make it as a catcher. He was VG in LF, an improving switch hitter, and readu to take over LF. Which he was in the prcess of doing before he was hurt.
  17. That's typical propaganda. If anyone thinks Bradley is going to play CF and hit .220 they are dead wrong. DD is not going to say "It looks like Bradley can't cut the mustard, and we'll get what we can for him." No, he's going to say exactly what he said, and hope some GM wants to talk him into trading JBJ for a starting pitcher. I've seen a couple of Bradley's interviews with the press. He is very liakable, that's for sure, and "the three Bees" sounds good, but that will change by the end of spring training. AND I HOPE I'M DEAD WRONG!
  18. Everyone seems to lump Swihart in the with the catchers. I thought he did a VG job in LF, and that any remote idea of his ever catching again had been dumped. He's a left fielder now. And a switch hitter to boot. (not all bad, either) Either Leon got really fatigued the last 6 weeks, or the pitchers have caught up with him, He looked like Moncada those last few weeks. I don't see him in the picture next year. If he hits in spring train like he did in October. he'll ne second or third string. Vaz will be the regular catcher next year, I would bet on it. I may have some crazy ideas at times, but I think there is a chance that Pablo will come back and take over 3B. As I've said before, I think Bradley will be gone, and the first regular game of the season will see Swihart in LF, Beintendi in CF and Betts in RF. Aren't players supposed to get better over time? And not worse? The pitchers have made their adjustments for Bradley and Leon. They have not responded.
  19. Swihsr id s switch hitter and, potentially a very good. Against all odds, I see him in LF next year. If he's healthy, no reason to trade him. If he isn't let him go. And, yes, I see Benintendi in CF next year.
  20. I couldn't agree more. How he was the SS all-star selection ahead of Lindor, I don't know. The selections were made during his "hot" period, I guess. I have suggested that the Guardians might take Bradley and Bogaerts for Lindor. Better SS, better hitter than Bogie, and we alrady have the OF of Swihart/Young, Benny and Mookie. All is conversation unless we get some pitching. Right now that area is sad.
  21. I feel almost the opposite. I think Wright belongs in the pen. Long relief, omce thru the order, no more. Buch looked pretty good. I do wish some of these guys wpuld get back to a real windup. Both Buch and Price lost about 3mph on their fasball instead of winding up, and "letting the f***er fly."
  22. I see no reason this pitching staff (both starters and pen) will be any better this coming year than it was in 2016. I base that on the past performances of acquisitions and those let go. Someone upstairs is either having extremely bad luck when it comes to pitching evaluation, oi he has no isea what constitutes a good pitcher and what doesn't. The most desirable commodity in the player market is left handed pitching. Think Lester, Hill, Miller. With those three we would have walked thru the AL series, and probably the WS as well. Add that to the fact we are not developing any pictching in the minors. LH or RH!
  23. Thank you! Two things sent my memory bank into full gear. I'm not checking stats because they might conflict with the memories; One was his fielding at first base. I believe his stats were greater than great, but his range was very limited. This is a little unfair because he was compared to an incredibly talented 1st baseman (Babe Dahlgren) who followed him. Everyone knew he was always playing hurt, and I doubt if many fans booed when a ball slipped past him and over the base. Another part of the story that was always of interest to me was his alcoholism. I would not be around now except that in 1960, at the age of 36, I found myself in AA. I guess it was at least 15 years after that when I heard of his poverty and alcohol problems.I went into the service in March 1943, and did not come home until September 1948. No one sought out copies of the Stars and Stripes more regularly than I did. Yes. Jimmie Foxx will always be my all time favorite. Thanks again for the article. I enjoyed reading it.
