  1. Farrell, I am assuming, would not want that last item to happen. It would be Clay's death knell. Professionally.
  2. Cliff, He's very good at incendiary comments. Just enjoy what you are able to. I no longer mind yacking on him, I mean with him, because in the end he is harmless. He didn't have enough nurture as a child, so he is out seeking more attention. Sad, he has chosen the "stale potato chip" avenue instead of more healthy means. I am sure you know what the stale potato chip reference is. He wants attention so badly that if he were snacking, he'd be happy munching a stale chip and pass on perfectly fresh ones available in their proper place.
  3. Babe, Southie isn't lying. We HAVE, in former forums, discussed bad pitches before in winning efforts. As a matter of fact, no less than Pinstriped Zac was very willing to share kudos about that very thing. We, I, have made comments of game threads. The thread I started was solely about how terrible the umps were in the prior two games. I qualified my comments with that. Waders aren't a bad thing, either. I'd love to be fishing.
  4. LOL !!! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I feel like a dunce. I used the wrong word before and now I sit chagrined in my easy chair. Ever do that? Use the wrong word and feel it eats at one'w credibility?
  5. Mal, Do you have a thing for these young ladies and their gyrations? Heh
  6. Swihart was heroic IMO for what he did last season. He was thrown into the brink all too early and did better than I thought. That in no way superceded Vaz, who was down for the count. I was twisted over what would happen this season, but now that Swihart is playing in LF and doing it with surprising ease I am glad that both are in the game nearly daily. Bravo, DD, for making the moves to get this done! I am glad Vaz is doing so well. I love seeing him behind the plate and am not afraid when he comes up to the plate.
  7. Max, I'm the guy that didn't whine through two seasons of last place. I know bad pitching when I see it. It is the birthright of life long Red Sox fans to be plagued by poor pitching, with rare exceptions. I don't know how you miss the issue that if the ump takes away the area that a pitcher normally needs to be successful it alters the plan and likely the success of that pitcher, that game. I've been associated with the game since 1962. I'm still no expert. But I have played enough, watched enough, listened and learned enough to have a valid opinion. I'll borrow a line from a non-baseball player, "If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen.' But then again, maybe Harry S. did play when he was younger. I mean, if the ump is no good, get out of the biz. There ARE lots of good ones. I draw your attention to the prefacing paragraphs that I don't feel this way most of the time. That would validate the good work of the umps most of the time.
  8. Then you weren't paying attention .....
  9. In the end you are right. As YY said earlier, there are lots of variables. That is one reason the game is so hard. Batting cages are great fun but they aren't the whole game. I am amazed that pros can catch a pitcher tipping his pitches and tag the guy. When it rains, the hard thrower and the knuckleballer each have issues ... and on and on. The ump takes away a person's assurance things will go the way they are supposed to if he isn't consistent. If they are, then all is balanced and somewhat fair.... But again, I rarely make this an issue. It is just that it was so bad. I have made issue before, even when we won. But not to this extent.
  10. I didn't map the pitches, Halifax. I suppose I should do that before I open my mo .... type.
  11. Have you ever seen Billy Martin v. umpire? Hehehe
  12. True. I wasn't thinking of only the immediate. Very true.
  13. Who forgets this? But if one cannot take those built in obstacles, don't penalize the other participants because one isn't capable.
  14. You succeeded. I almost didn't respond because it was tongue in cheek enough to stand on its own. I thought perhaps you desired a response so I .... ok , I'll shut up now.
  15. I know that MLB is using a form of it already. I often follow/use it. That is part of the way that I know it's not just my eyesight involved. I was speaking in a parabolic fashion to the other poster.
  16. I think they should leave Taz out no matter what at Rogers.
  17. Thompson was out of this world! Sorry to our Thunder, poster, but I want to see the Warriors win the title again. Steph's a huge Sox fan and I like almost everything else about him, too. That shot just beyond the center jump circle was amazing, then Klay hit two more that were even more so!
  18. Interesting read: 1) Of course there are many different influences on the game. But the influence of an umpire is pitch to pitch. Most of the time, over the last 60 years, I rarely make an issue of the ump. I may not like a pitch or two, but the bad call used to be a rarity. It is much more likely today that it is a commonality. Not acceptable. 2) If a ref or ump is on the take, we are in another sphere of conversation. 3) If you notice most of the other threads are about all those other reasons we might win or lose. I have a great faith that there are plenty of voices saying ... heck I read plenty already that this was on Farrell because of his way of using the pen. I agree to a point, NEVER USE TAZ in the Roger's Center. I said that in the game thread. This is about the thing that the umps do ... or don't.
  19. I am confident that there would be ways to place the individual players measurements into the program. We know how to thread a needle 200 million miles away from our gravitational pull, all the while including the new gravitational influences of the planets, large space objects, and land on the spot we want on Mars. I think the logistics/IT/whatever is easily applied to human bodies. I am also confident we will have to have human back up for all the glitches that will arise as things always do. So the human element will still be there.
  20. JBay, I have never been willing to blame the umps as a rule. I can recall different incidents in my own life that cost a game or whatever. I am also for the human element. But the product isn't up to snuff right now. I think you know me enough that I don't really complain about much except those people, especially Red Sox fans that always complain about things Red Sox. But this issue, which seemed bad last season, is out of control. It may be the five weeks I had to stay with my leg up and had opportunity to watch games almost every day. If that's the case, this has been out of control for a long time. I repeat things too often, so I won't restate my opinion of the last two games. I am also sure that it happens to other teams. I do care about that, as it deals with the game itself. I do not care nearly as much that it happens TO them as it does to the Red Sox.
  21. Ahhh, OK, (hehe) I'll accept your place. I thought Thunder may have been about Papi's Big Stick!
  22. Here's to the Warriors ... take this one tonight! GO Steph!
