  1. I won't go as far as comparing him to the long life of the Curse. But it certainly does make one ill watching him kiss game after game good bye.
  2. Interesting tidbit. Keep the line moving!!!
  3. The strain must be unbearable, sir.
  4. Hey Sean, Welcome aboard! I had not looked at how many more runs, but you did make me smile with the point you're making. I do think we will score a bit less in the rest of the season, simply because we will be playing more games away from Fenway. If my math is right we have 54 games left in the Fens and 62 on the road. We have been doing the double digit mash at Fenway and are much more pedestrian on the road.
  5. I don't know how old you are, 700, but the Sox calling card even in the '6os was hitting not pitching. If you lived it, please forgive my forwardness. I grew up with the '60s teams, they were my summer staples ... along with tarzan swings, church camp in the Berkshires, a few weeks on the Vineyard with the Grands, a week in Indiana and a car stuffed with all my siblings ....Fenway was a great place to be a few times every summer. Then I moved away to Florida in '71. Or mom and dad did and for some reason I wasn't allowed to stay in Rochester, NH by myself at 15 .... Many, many good memories.
  6. Is anybody (here) chronicling JBJ's and Xander's hitting streaks .... I'll have to look.
  7. Oh you guys are taking me back!! The 2003 team was tasty, and I shared it with Dad. That was a pleasure infinitely better the next seasons and that goes without saying. I have a special place for the '77 Sox - got married that summer, introduced my new bride to New England, the Cape and Martha's Vineyard! AND THE RED SOX UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL! But those teams Max mentioned .... whew, all the way back to childhood! Dreamy, hot summers, sand lot ball all day long, or whiffle ball or watching on WBZ (was it WBZ??? I am trying to remember.) Sheeees, in three paragraphs you guys outlined a 60 year old's life with hitting highlights! And then there is another good night at Fenway tonight!
  8. Sox win tonight and I'm bummed about Steph's team being slobbernockered. Sheees.
  9. Agree, rookie mistake. James is trying to find out who will stand with him, not just be the lone ranger.
  10. Agreed, E9... We have some nice prospects that aren't gonna see the light of day .... My only fear is the same thing that just happened with Carson Smith ... trade and something bad happens. I do think that the prospects touch that spot that says "What if we just traded away another star?" But in all honesty, we can't keep them all. Can we?
  11. Let's not be too reasonable, sir!
  12. Nailed it, Spud. Or no active mods ....
  13. And I was happy with the idea he might be a Celt! Wow, would he be a disappointment in the Gahden. What happened to the guy who played in the north country? I watched the Cavs come back and thought, ahhh, ok, this is gonna work. Then they just let the Raptors run over them again! The King just stopped playing the last 6 minutes. Reminded me of the days he just stopped when KG and the C's kicked him to the curb. They just stopped playing! They have what it takes, but they get a little drama and they take their marbles and go home. Not good.
  14. Cleveland goes up in smoke again .... incredible. Two games ago the world of sports media was about to anoint them as champs. Two games in Toronto and the Raptors seem like the hungry, smart beasts in "Jurassic Park."
  15. From what I understand, and I am not claiming to be an expert, this upcoming hot stove will be a poor, poor season for pitching options. That would add to the concern about available arms even now. If there is little to look forward to, the cost spirals upward.
  16. LOL!!! I loved Zim, but that could have been true for him sometimes, too. Dude would take on a wall if it got in his way.
  17. You humble me, S5. Thanks.
  18. Therein, my new friend, is the rub. They have produced for us, and without selling our daughters or sisters into slavery or some other terrible offense.
  19. Things that are apparently clear here, mvp78 & 700, aren't so apparently clear to others we have posted with, on more than just the BDC site. I could name a couple other sites where the negative and smarmy are always making their point(s) as if they are more intelligent and baseball savvy than anyone at Fenway One (name made up for the heck of it...). Nevermind that the Henry group has provided us with 3 WSCs and 11 of 14 outstanding seasons... A common line was "We won in spite of __________, and at that point you could fill the line option with "Tito," "FO," "JF," or any of another number of scurrilous options. IOW, no matter how well things were going, the dark side couldn't wait to be heard. Our apologies for standing up for the Sox in all its various options. We have often been stating the positive so as to balance the sheets with the negative. Old habits die hard.
  20. I think that the lineup as it is, and even will be without Papi next year, has room for a good singles, doubles hitter. If he has no power but can keep the line going, he has significant value. If ....
  21. Gator, I was gonna make this a separate post, but I think it ties in perfectly with what you are saying. Quote from Boston.Com ... "By Paul Swydan 12:08 PM COMMENTARY Last time we suited up for the Red Sox player power rankings, I noted that the Red Sox have the best offense in the American League. This time, it is my duty to inform you that the team currently has not only the best offense in the AL, it has the second-best offense in baseball’s Integrated Era (1947-present) . While that is fueled in part by the best-ever team batting average on balls in play (BABIP) and as such is not necessarily long for this world, it’s important context for what the team is doing right now. With the back end of the rotation still creaky, the offense is propping up the team. Hopefully the team’s brain trust can figure out the proper plan for the starting pitching before the bats cool off." I added the highlights...
  22. This Seattle fan ... harmony Is that you, Hill?
  23. I have a suggestion for the days Clay pitches .... It's a little like little league and girl's softball. When we see Clay begin to struggle, pull him immediately and let Holt pitch for that inning. I hear from the talking heads that Clay is a superb athlete. Let him shag in LF, spread out Mookie and JBJ to help out. When the next inning comes up, let Clay pitch again. I know there are inherent problems (Can Holt pitch? What do we do with Clay's atbat ... there's a DH in the AL and what else in the NL) with this scenario, but there are when Clay pitches anyway.
  24. I think it's what hit him ... in the noggin. On concussion routine on DL.
  25. Just think where they'd have been with no Cespy last year... I miss his bat but not his listlessness. The Mets still only got him to commit for 3 years, $75 mill.
