  1. MLBTR on Tyler O'Neill's "Make or Break Season:" https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/02/make-or-break-year-tyler-oneill.html
  2. Alarming numbers. So, basically, he's been smoke & mirrors, and we can't always trust xFIP.
  3. Well, control does have value, especially when you consider Jansen's 2024 value is likely a waste to us.
  4. Would you do the same trade for 3 years of Luzardo, instead?
  5. Best of available FAs the Sox could use: Snell (I'd prefer Monty) Monty Clevinger Soler, Duvall or Pham (maybe if Duran is traded) Lauer, Lorenzen, Ryu, B Keller With Baggage: Bauer & Urias
  6. Maybe the 1-9 4.33 in 19 career GS as a SP'er thingy. You guys laughed at me for suggesting Seth Lugo. (26 GS in '23 at 8-7 and 3.57.) I'm fine with King, and BTV loves the trade, but the 2 year thing swings me to a no.
  7. Would we use King as a SP'er?
  8. He could easily be better than Jansen in 2024 and has 2 more years of pretty cheap control.
  9. 5 years of a guy who is already a #2 type pitcher. He's just 26. He has a 3.63 ERA since 2022 and a nearly identical FIP of 3.64. His xFIP is 3.45, which is 19th best in MLB, among pitchers with 240+ IP, since 2022. I thought xFIP was your baby. Best 2 pitching prospects in the Sox system is not saying much. You have said both will likely be RP'ers, anyway. If you prefer: sub in 3 years of Luzardo, and the trade is still accepted. I'd like to say we could sign a better SP with the money saved, but ____.
  10. Monty-TEX not likely... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/02/jordan-montgomery-rumors-rangers-phillies.html
  11. PHI: Jansen & Houck MIA: Mayer, Abel, Wikelman & Perales BOS: Garrett & AJ Puk
  12. That did suck. I think he had one good year after us.
  13. The purge of that era went beyond just Fisk & Lynn. Within a short period of time, we also lost Bill Lee, Burleson & Hobson. (I feel like I'm forgetting another.) A few years earlier, there was a lesser purge of Cecil Cooper & Bernie Carbo.
  14. Post #161 I totally understand this position, but to me, Mookie is probably worth $300+M/6 (not on the open market as a FA but in reality), so giving him $120M for the last 6 years is not bad.
  15. It's interesting that soxprospects.com still has Dalbec startong the season on the 26. I realize we have no other player with any 1B experience to back-up Casas, but I just can't see Dalbec on the 26, unless Casas gets hurt, and even then, we may trade for a back-up, before Dalbec plays more than a few games. Here is their projected AAA starting roster: C: Roberto Perez 1B: Stephen Scott 2B: Nick Yorke SS: David Hamilton 3B: Chase Meidroth LF: Mark Contreras CF: Ceddanne Rafaela RF: Wilyer Abreu DH: Enmanuel Valdez Bench: Heineman & Kolozsary C, Dunand & Westbrook IF and Rosier OF. UT: Sogard, R Gonzalez & E Alvarez Rotation: Wink, Walter, Fitts, Gambrell & Van Belle The Portland roster features Anthony, Mayer, Teel, Hickey, Jordan & Wikelman Pen: Criswell, Murphy, Weissert, Kelly, Guerrero, Booser, German, Hagenman, Politi
  16. Yariel Rodriguez to TOR for five-years at $32M.
  17. Maybe we can tali him out of it.
  18. or Kansas City
  19. Coming from Law, this is encouraging. The lack of quality SP'ers on the farm has been well documented and discussed, here. No doubt, we have to fix this problem- like yesterday! He made a good point about trades, because even if we did fix the problem yesterday, results won't be realized for several more years. The change in drafting and development practices is highly important, but won't fix things for 3-6 years. We've talked about our past successes with trading for aces and other quality SP'ers, going back to Pedro, and that does seem like a doable idea, especially when we have such a strong farm to trade from. Trades for mid rotation starters can help, too. Waiver wire, Rule 5 and other ways to add pitchers can strike gold, from time to time, but should never be something to rely on. As bad as we have done, since DD's trades for Sale and Nate, here are some pitchers we added in other ways than by draft or IFA signing: Whitlock (Rule 5) Pivetta (and Seabold for Workman & Hembree) Winckowski, Gambrell & de la Rosa for Beni I Campbell for Urias Fitts, Weissert & Judice for Dugo Schreiber (Waivers) Bernardino (Waivers) Slaten (Rule 5) Kelly (MiLFA) Many minor league additions
  20. I totally agree, and on the one year deals, we might be able to trade one or two for something useful, if the season craters.
  21. I feel the same. I will be surprised if we make a major move.
  22. I'm not thinking that. You just assumed it. I would expect Martin to close, and maybe Houck take the major set-up role, if Whitlock is not up to the task. Would adding Houck and Crawford to the pen help enormously, or not? That's all I said and meant.
  23. You misspelled sham.
  24. Sham https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0230762/
  25. ...and those who repeat it, are doomed to make history.
