  1. MLB.com reports… Imanaga was already the first pitcher in Major League history since at least 1901 to go 4-0 with an ERA under 1.00 in his first five career starts. But he added even more to his legacy on Wednesday, pitching a career-high seven scoreless innings while allowing three hits and striking out seven batters. Imanaga threw 87 pitches (58 strikes). He said the velocity on his fastball was down, but starting with the fifth inning was back to normal, clocking in as high as 93.4 mph.
  2. I often point out you think all your posts are “perfect,” as you said once.
  3. LOL! If their pet bit them, they may have deserved it. No, I never specifically thought about pet owners being abused. It’s not like news stories divulge that info.
  4. On defense?
  5. Good point. For the most part, BorA$$ seems to get good deals for his clients. You rarely see players dump him as their agent. This winter, it seems he misread the market.
  6. Wow! It makes me doubt DRS.
  7. Me, too. For some reason it sometimes seems I get more upset about pet abuse than people abuse.
  8. I don’t expect an admission.
  9. Okay. For some reason, I thought he was a man without a position. Soxprospects reports this… Field: Unclear where his long-term defensive home is, but has the athleticism to profile in the outfield, where he spent much of his first taste of pro ball and appears to be moving full-time based on indications in spring training 2024. Also could play second base. Is still learning the nuances of the outfield with his reads and routes, but has the raw athleticism and speed you look for out there.
  10. You said this… That's not true at all. Monty wanted to come to Boston, Boston didn't want to pay the right amount. They were in negotiations at one point. I’m not taking sides. No report quotes Monty, so we don’t know what media reports were right or wrong. With opposite reports being published, some report was likely wrong.
  11. I know it is way too early to call any game “a big game,” but I really feel like a win, today could really set the tone for a while, anyway. This team has shown amazing resilience and maybe it’s just temporary, but the signs look good. Top SPing Decent hitting Hopeful defense improvements made and about to happen Management being proactive despite the lack of major moves The Brez-Bailey combo looking good out of the gate. If this season ends up falling apart, maybe this will sound real dumb, but maybe our last two GMs did a little better on planning for the future than we gave them credit for doing. Granted, so little credit was given, that “better” could still be bad.
  12. I make plenty, unlike you who never has.
  13. Other than DH, do you think he could fill another slot at least adequately? If yes, where? Another LF’er?
  14. On paper, this looks like a poor line-up and SP, but this team keeps pulling out wins in games like this. We did for a while, last year, with opener after opener and pen games, until the house of cards collapsed. I’m not predicting a collapse, this year, but we need some of our injured SPers back sooner rather than later.
  15. That is a reasonable hope, and Rafaela has looked better on D than just about anyone else but Story. Duran seems to be still looking better that pre2023. I thought Abreu was okay, but he has looked better than okay, after “kicking the ball around RF” way back when. O’Neal has been fine. Wong and McGuire look better than 2022-2023, but we still look bad.
  16. Yes that is true. I was only addressing who was discussed the most, and I think Monty was, at least in part because he was one of the last to sign. I guess I miss interpreted MVPs reply. My bad.
  17. \MVP said Monty was the most discussed. I said because he was signed so late, so the discussion went on and on.
  18. Their answers would be very interesting to hear.
  19. Our defense still sucks. There- back on topic.
  20. Monty was the most discussed pitcher signing this winter. Would he have been had he signed right after Nola with someone else?
  21. People selectively choose stories that fit their narrative. There was no Monty quote in the Heyman story. Not even a mention that he talked to him. There were plenty of stories that said the Red Sox were in it to the end. The Sox went cheap, this winter, after Gio. It seems that narrative fits into why Monty went elsewhere, too.
  22. True. Had he signed early on with someone else, he would not have been the most discussed, this winter.
  23. He started off, slowly, last year too. I'm hoping he turns it up a notch, again. Also, you should like this: FIP 4.54 in '23 (4.10 career) 4.04 in 2024 In 2023 he was at this on May 2nd (3GS) 6.57 ERA 5.61 FIP From May 2 to Sept 14th, he went: 3.40 ERA 4.13 FIP May 2 to end of 2023 season: 4.04 4.44
  24. MLB.com asks... Is Boston’s rotation legit? Just as everyone expected, the Red Sox have the top starting rotation in baseball this year. Hold on, what? It’s true. Red Sox starters led the Majors with a 2.07 ERA and 3.03 FIP through the end of April. That 2.07 ERA is the lowest by a team’s rotation through the first 30 games of a season in the Wild Card era (since 1995). Despite starters Nick Pivetta, Brayan Bello and Garrett Whitlock currently sidelined with injuries, Boston's rotation has continued to produce. Tanner Houck and Kutter Crawford aren’t just the top two starters in Boston’s rotation -- they’re two of the best starters in the Majors right now. By FanGraphs’ version of Wins Above Replacement, Houck and Crawford were tied with Zack Wheeler for the top WAR (1.4) among starting pitchers through the end of April. Houck and Crawford have combined to post a 1.49 ERA in 72 2/3 innings with 75 strikeouts, 16 walks and just one home run allowed. -- Brent Maguire
