    He'll turn 38 before the 2026 season, which is younger than Jansen was, when we did not extend him. If he keeps this up, I'm all for bringing him back for 1 more season. I'd have been fine with bringing Jansen back for 1 more, too.

    I think so, too, but I do think Story may be more willing to move off SS than an unknown ex Sox player not to be mentioned. I'm not sure Mayer will be bother about playing 2B for a couple seasons. Story is playing very nice defense, now, so there is no hurry, anyway.

    I very much agree, here and have said often: you get what you pay for. Even stepping up from the $5-10M/1 deals to $21M/1 (Buehler) or $39M/2 (Giolito) deals isn't getting the job done. It takes bold spending and trading to get the job done.     Campbell is not even a good 2Bman (yet?) so why should he play SS? He may be lucky to play CF over DH, but he's got to show he can field somewhere, well enough. I have faith he will be a good hitter, someday, and almost certainly better than DHam will ever be, but as of now, he's not, and he's a lesser defender and baserunner. The rest is what is utterly irrelevant.

    We are making too many errors, some easy ones, some borderline hits called erros, and then the ones that are bonehead plays. There are also many no errors that are scored as hits or fielder's choice that could have been outs or DPs. I do think our defense is better than 2024, but that was such a low bar set, it should not have taken much to improve upon. Narvaez and Bregman were very nice additions for the O and D. Stories return and Rafaela FT in CF should have led to much better numbers- traditional and otherwise, than we've seen, It's not like RF defense got any worse. 2B and 1B sucked to begin with, but I'm not thinking it got worse in 2025. Our pitchers have sucked on D, but this whole thing doesn't make sense, to me. I'm hopeful we can improve our fldg% and metrics, going forward. We'll need improvements in several aeras to make up for the loss of Devers. Mayer looks like a plus and Anthony is no slouch on D. Campbell is question mark, but there has been a low bar set at 2B for over 7 years.

    At what cost? Even 2-3 month rentals are overpays. Do you give Arias & Valera for a top rental? What can we get for Romero, Bleis & Mullins?

    Brez also traded for Fitts, Weissert & Judice. He traded for Harrison & J Bello. He traded for Fajardo. He traded for Priester, then flipped him for the guy you mentioned, Holobetz. Eduardo Rivera was added as a MiFA Others Brez added via draft or IFA: Valera, Wehunt, Delzine, D Reyes & others.

    I don't really disagree with anything, here, either. Ideally, we should try to avoid maga deals, especially long term ones, and even the one for Bregman might have been avoidable, had we put our faith in Meidroth and found another prospect to include in the Crochet deal. I'm not for trading higher prospects for short term gains. The Aldo Ramirez for Schwarber deal is about the highest we've gone since Beeks for Nate in 2018- both seemed to work well. IMO, we need a solid #2 SP'er. I doubt Dobbins, Houck, Crawford or anyone else in the system can step into that roile, shortly or even in a year or two. Houck and Sandoval probably have the best chance, unless Buehler comes around. I do not want us trading a top 8 or so prospect for a rental, but I would like to see a longer term addition that fills that role, and would be willing to pay for it in money and or higher level prospects.
