    As long as Story plays 150+ games (ok, 140+) of near GG defense and hits over .750 (ok, .725+) he can K 300 times.

    I truly believe they are actively making decisions based on how they can minimize losing fans (and adding fans) while spending the least amount of possible. I think they honestly believe they have been successful in doing that. Of course, they wish we'd win more, and I think they actually believe they built teams that they felt should have did better, but they knew all along these teams were never legit contenders. I don't know about "sitting gleefully," but I think they are happy with their profit lines, but do worry about losing fans or potentially losing some, going forward. They like the way the farm has rebounded. They are putting a lot of trust in that. They just used some farm capital to add Crochet. That has not happened since DD. I fully believe they believe in their plan. They are not happy with the W-L results, of course, but they are happy with the profits. Sorry, if I was not clear about what they were happy with.

    IMO, we have a 50-50 shot at making the playoffs, now- without Bregman.

    Is being 70th in ISO out of 270 batters with 600+ PAs since 2023, "not all that much?" I guess that point could be made for a top 26% player. He's 88th in SLG, which is top 33%. He's 41st in HRs at 50 and 59th in PAs, so this indicates he's not all that full of power. Man, we are obviously running out of things to talk about, if this gets so much exposure.

    That sounds about right. I'd feel better about 90, if we added Robertson, too.

    Some sad names on this list, but over 135 games had a worthy batter up 3rd. The third slot should be your 5th or 4th best hitter. Best 2nd or 4th Next 5th and 1st Next 3rd (I think that is how they say it should go.)

    I did not say I believe they are smart. I said the believe they are smart. They think the "sham" is working, and is many ways it is, since they are making money hand over fist, despite an inferior product being sold. Tell me why you think they believe they are dumb.

    He probably would not opt out or ask for one. He might opt out, if we pay him $30M, $30M- opt out- $20M and $15M. He probably won't. but taking a higher AAV with less years can sometimes make an opt-out more appealing, especially if it's after 1 year, when he will not be too old.

    According to modern batting line-up formulas, the 3 slot should not be your best 3 hitters. Devers should bat second or 4th. If he bats 4th, I'd put Story 3rd vs LHPs and Casas 5th. I might put Abreu 3rd vs RHPs and keep Casas 5th all the time. Duran should lead off, IMO. Who bats second with Devers 4th? Campbell v LHPs and Abreu or Ref vs LHPs? V L: Duran, Refsnyder, Story, Devers, Casas.... V R: Duran, Campbell, Abreu, Devers, Casas...

    If you total up Paxton, Richards and Kluber, it's $30M. I think we could do better with a $30M/3 or $30M/2 type deal, but I'm not sure how much better. Kikuchi signed for $36M/2 in '22. I know that is cherry picking. Others signed for about the same and did about as badly as Richards-Kluber-Paxton. Imanaga signed for $13.5M x 4 in '24 and Lugo for $15M x 3, the same year. Not sure those are fair comps, unless you include the Sandoval or Buehler deals as part of the exchange.

    He probably has a 5 year deal or two offered, and that's why the Sox name is still mentioned, from time to time. If the Sox offered 4, they are close. Maybe he takes a 4 year deal with a higher AAV and an opt out after 1 or 2 years over a 5 year deal that just gives him $10-15M more. Maybe not. Maybe they think the Sox might buckle and go 5. I think Fenway would suit Bregman fine. If he gets an opt out with the Sox, he could maybe build his value with 1-2 big years w BOS. Maybe no. I'm not counting on us getting him. The odds are probably 1-5%, but I keep checking MLBTR, everyday.

    I think adding Bregman and Robertson would make us playoff favorites and AL championship contenders, but not the fave. Adding Bregman could also allow for a trade that could add another useful piece, like a real catcher or another RHB or pen arm.

    Exactly. They very well may have signed Soto, if it was at their price, even if it may have been double price's deal, so in that sense, they may not be lying, when they say they are prepared to spend big. If they never set a price at or above market value, however, they will never sign anyone. The did with Beuhler, Chapman and Wilson, as they seem to really like the lower risk, one year deals. I'm sure almost every team that has signed a large & long deal, knows or feels like they paid more than they felt the guy was worth, but the realized the need was so great, it was worth it. We do not get to that point, anymore, on anything longer than 2 years. Yoshida and Story are the only FAs signed to 3+ years in a long time.

    If they came out and said, we are looking to save money and have decided not to overpay on free agents, they might lose some fans and viewers, so they just keep that a secret, as "best" they can. I do think they have a very strict valuing system in place, but someone decides, when it's okay to go over that amount and by how much. It is a team philosophy on "overpaying" that all GMs and owners face. We have chose to change our approach, but we won't admit it.

    I'd like to see Criswell make the ML squad out of camp. When Whitlock is ready, we should know who gets demoted.

    Arenado with Herrera and Helsley would be awesome. I was thinking, we could take Contreras to further STL's saving$. I'd give Crawford, Cespedes and Kelly for the 3, along with some cash.

    I think they view Anthony and Campbell as options to replace O'Neill. Campbell bats righty, and Anthony has had decent splits as a LHB.

    It could work out well, especially with Ref likely to retire after 2025, and Rafaela is our only RHB OF'er, after him.
