  1. This is the most shocking trade since Jabbar to the Lakers in the 70's.
  2. I was just thinking this. Before 2013, I thought we were a year or two away, and that we had "played it halfway" with all the trades. I never expected 2021 to happen, after that dreadful 2020 season, and getting next to nothing from Sale and additions like Richards. On the flip side, I felt better about 2019 than 2021 and 2022 than 2024.
  3. I guess it's a done deal: we will suck in 2025, despite having what some consider the best and deepest rotation in MLB. Guess the band... (No googling) I wore my teeth in my hand so I could mess the hair of the night Hey, well I'm beginning to see the light...
  4. I have to do the grunt work? First of all, we started off with the dreaded 10 game west coast trip and went 7-3. We then got swept by BAL and went 3-4 vs LAA & CLE, at home. We then went on teh road against hot PIT & CLE, going 4-2, then went home to take 2 of 3 vs the Cubs. We beat SFG in the final game in APR. 17-13 against only great teams! LOL
  5. I would try very hard to have Ref be in every line-up vs LHPs. He is a top 20 batter vs LHPs since 2022. When and if Anthony is called up, I'd platoon Ref with Yoshida at DH. If Anthony is the FT RF'er, or splits time between CF and RF, so Abreu can play RF vs LHPs, I'd prefer Ref platoon with Yoshida at than Duran in LF. (And, no: I am not suggesting we platoon Duran.)
  6. I don't see Grissom ever playing 3B, even with an injury. Campbell might, since he'd probably be better on D than Grissom, DHam or Mayer/Story. Romy might be okay on D at 3B, but he's not a full season guy, there.
  7. 12th in wins in the AL at 78. (77.6) Sad.
  8. I remember Abreu was not a starter and Devers (10 gms) and Story (30 gms) missed time. Most PAs in MAR-APR 142 Duran 110 Rafaela 94 EValdez 90 Casas 80's: Yoshida, Abreu, Devers 60-71: Wong, reyes, McGuire 42-56: Dalbec & DHam 30's: Story & Ref
  9. We tried DHam (50 GS at SS) and Reyes (1GS) at SS, and both sucked on O and D. DHam was demoted and came back to play mostly 2B but some SS. Sogard started 6 games. Rafaela was the primary plug-in at SS, but I do not think he was listed #2 on the pre-season depth chart at SS. Story started 26 games at SS. In 2023: GS 54 Kike, 35 Story, 30 Chang (in season add) 25 Reyes, 10 DHam, 5 Rafaela, 2 Arroyo, 1 Dalbec
  10. Why don't our bats slump in April?
  11. Mine: 1. Devers has a career high OPS+ 2. Casas hits 30 bombs and has an OPS+ over 135. 3. Campbell wins ROY. 4. Narvaez wins the starting Catcher job by August. 5. Buehler starts 27 games and has an ERA under 3.40. 6. Slaten becomes our closer by July. 7. Penrod will not be on the 40 Man Roster after the deadline.
  12. Yes, this whole issue could be "solved" by signing Grichuk or Laureano or add someone else who hits lefties well and can play a decent RF. That would pretty much force a DH platoon with Yoshida and Ref, with Ref playing some short field corner OF, when someone gets a breather vs a lefty.
  13. Haven't given those two much thought. I think Sabathia had 6-7 really good years and maybe a handful of pretty good ones. I'm not sure on him. Halladay was super great for 6 years in a row and a couple other years, too. He was decent for 3-4 more. I'd say he is closer and deserves it.
  14. Good points. I'm not saying he doesn't "deserve it" over others already in the HOF. I don't think some in it belong, so that argument rings hollow, to me. (Not that Feller & Marichal don't belong.)
  15. He may not be, but he did show "concern," last year as his starts in Fenway's RF vs LF were way different than on the road. "Overly concerned" is a loaded term. I do think we'll see ref in Fenway's RF, in 2025. More than 6 starts? I'm not sure. (Most of those 6 starts were when Abreu was out hurt.)
  16. Fine. Just checking. (I agree: it should count.) He did very well the next year, when he played over 150 games (career high OPS)
  17. The scary thing is, the "interest" has stopped.
  18. You obviously did not pay attention to how Cora did move Ref around based on the park and lefty-righty pitcher. You are the one suggesting he will change the way he does thing, not us.
  19. Duran played CF, when Rafaela played SS and a handful of times, otherwise. Why would Rafaela in RF be such a big change? Clearly Rafaela can play RF better than Duran, due to arm strength. If you think Abreu will just play RF FT, even vs LHPs, that is an idea and opinion. If he doesn't, as I suggest he shouldn't, then who does? If you think it should be Ref at Fenway, I think you are wrong. If Cora keeps Duran in LF just for continuity, I think he'd be wrong. He may do that. I'm not making predictions: I'm giving my opinion and saying why I think my opinion id better. I'm fine with others disagreeing, but saying because it's what Cora does, when he doesn't is not a valid reason.
  20. We lost O'Neall. That is what changed. We may not need Rafaela at SS, so that may change. (He is now an option at other positions, besides just SS and CF. He did play some 2B, too.) It's not me saying we need to fill O'Neill's shoes: it is a fact. We saw how Cora did that, last year, and it was rarely by using Ref in RF at Fenway. Who fills that role is the question, and you keep saying it won't be RAF, like you know. Are you saying Cora will change what he did, last year and play Ref in RF vs LHPs? It's fine to have an opinion, but we have ours, too. Only you pretend to know it as a fact. So, who plays RF at Fenway vs LHPs? Whoever you say, will be something Cora rarely did, last year, so it's an opinion.
  21. MLBTR reports that the SDP might look into Pivetta, if they trade Cease. DET is still in on Bregman, despite the Flaherty signing. No rumors on Sox "interest" on anybody.
  22. He keeps saying Cora is not going to change things around, but if Cora does what he always does, he will flip people all over the place to get a better line-up and defensive alignment. He rarely played Ref in Fenway's RF, so if he does not change his MO, then Ref will hardly play Fenway's RF, again in 2025.
  23. He might get 3-4 years, but at a less AAV. Flaherty got $35M/2 ($17.5M AAV) Maybe Pivetta gets $47-49M/3 or $58-60M/4.
