    The longest pitcher signing since Price in 2016 (7 years.) This is a good sign that the cycle in spending is shifting upside. $170M/7 Crochet $120M/3 Bregman $21M/1 Buehler $18.3M/2 Sandoval $10.8M/1 Chapman One hell of a winter! This, after $314M/13 Devers, $39M/2 Gio and $10M/2 Hendriks, last winter.

    Abreu will get plenty ABs vs LHPs, much like last year, but I don't expect him to start more than 6 games vs LH'd starter- like last year. 6 out of 43 games seems about what I expect in 2025. If he plays more, it probably won't be at ref's expense.

    That's a lot of money, and there is an opt out after 5 years, but I'm liking the signing and major direction change from the money handlers.

    Let's not forget, Devers was at a 167 wRC+ on 8/2/24 (6th in MLB. His .992 OPS was 5th best and was on pace for a career high. That was not that long ago, folks. His previous career highs: .916 OPS in 2019 140 wRC+ in 2022 I'm not so sure a 29 game sample size should be reason to go drastic on him.

    It is wicked frustrating. One has to think there is something wrong with the shoulder, despite no signs when examined. Maybe it has become a mental issue as he is thinking about the shoulder and holding back. His swings don't look like he's holding back, though. The guy can hit. I just hope we can see it, soon.

    I think I'd put Campbell up 5th and Story 6th, but no biggie. As expected, Refsnyder is in the line-up vs the lefty. Talk of giving Abreu a chance vs LH'd SP'ers was just that- talk. I do wonder how long we keep Devers up 2nd, and going against a lefty, today might have been a good day to move him to 6th. Now, watch him go 3 for 4. Gotta win these division games. They count just as much in April as in September.

    From 8/3 to 8/18, he hit .771, so I'm not sure I'd include those dates that were dragged down by later numbers. It's really about 25 games to end 2024, while playing hurt and 4 games to start this year. If you want to count ST'ing, fine. He has looked lost. I don't disagree, but I'm not sure batting him 9th is the best idea. Maybe give him a day off and bat him 6th for a while- maybe 7th vs lefties.

    I know C ampbell's success has nothing to do with Anthony and Mayer, but I do wonder what those two might be doing in the bigs, right now. I don't see an easy guy to bench for Mayer. I do think we could play Anthony over Rafaela, but I do not think Sox management wants to bench him. I see an Abreu-Refsnyder platoon in RF, so Rafaela would not even get to platoon. Anthony would play LF (maybe RF in Fenway) and Duran in CF. I doubt we make this call, so early, but I dom wonder if we are missing out on something very special bby holding off their promotions.

    Even 25 games is a rather small sample size, but I do share your concern that something is still wrong.

    By season's end, I think we will have better offensive numbers than 2024.

    Agreed. Let him learn 1B over the winter. If he really wants to play in the field, he should be the one asking to try 1B.

    DHam vs a RHP is probably a better bat that Rafaela, and DHam can defend 2B pretty well. Cora likes to get everyone playing time.

    We might as well wait on Anthony and Mayer to add a year of control. I'd be fine calling them up at any time, before or after that date.
