  1. I've wanted Devers to try 1B for over 3 years. Is it Cora's fault? Maybe. Bloom and Brez's fault? Maybe. Devers fault? maybe. Everyone's fault? Likely. Now, it's all water under the Tobin Bridge.
  2. You keep assuming Casas was going to hit .550 the rest of the season. Also, when the talk of Devers playing 1B began, which was actually before this year, but let's go with the day Casas got hurt, we did not know Toro-Romy as a viable solution. Devers was a clear option to play 1B, despite your belief that he'd suck there. His glove and range were not the issue at 3B; it was his arm. It's all moot, now. I still bet we see Casas as the 2026 1Bman- not Toro-Romy, but we may trade Casas by then.
  3. I agree, and it seems like they didn't even bother to ask or tell Devers to play 1B, They just chose to move on from him.
  4. As always, very well said, oldtimer. You said it all. I can't disagree with a single word. I'm sure this trade will go on to be discussed as much or more than the Betts trade, but I'm not sure much more can be added.
  5. We agree on this. By the time Bregman returns, maybe KC has reasserted himself as a ML hitter, and the choice will be harder to make. Now that the DH slot is open, there is another option for KC to play 70-80% or more.
  6. I do think it's highly doubtful this is a precursor to a Skenes like trade, but adding Harrison and 2 good prospects does make it easier to part with prospects to get him, when you consider how much we seem to value the youth movement. There is a chance PIT likes Harrison more than any pitching prospect we could offer. (Slight- I agree.)
  7. Harrison is not a prospect. He was in 2024. He pitched in MLB in 2023, 2024 and 2025. He started 24 games, last year, and the same amount of GS's as Crochet going into 2025. The numbers posted are vastly different, but I have to think the Sox see something in this 23 year old. He has a career 4.48 ERA, 4.56 FIP (4.30 this year) and a 1.297 WHIP. (8.8 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9) I have serious doubts. This looks like a total salary dump and or attitude dump. The timing seems strange.
  8. If you look at value for dollar, Devers wasn't even worth a bag of used balls, but the guy had tremendous value in our line-up. As MVP said, that is irreplaceable. This almost like signing Story before letting Bogey walk. We signed Bregman, then traded Devers. It's like the Nomat trade, too, as mentioned, already. We aren't going to replace the money, this summer, so this sure looks like a punt on 2025, unless some other blockbuster is in teh works, where we flip Harrison and prospects for Skenes, but that is doubtful.
  9. The two prospects have been named: James Tibbs (1B/OF) 1st rd pick in 2024 and doing very well in A+ (almost equal BBs and Ks) Good Hit and Power tools, according to MLBTR. Jose Bello (RHP) is relatively unknown, but has K'd 41% of his batters faced in 18 IP of rookie ball. He is from the D.R. As I mentioned, harrison was a top 25 nationally ranked prospect in 2024, before graduating from prospect status. There could be something here that works out very well, but it is almost all specualtion and not proven values we got back.
  10. No. 100% paid by SFG. We did take Jordan Hicks ($12M x 3 years after this.)
  11. Shouldn't a GM be able to get his manager to even ask/tell the player to play where he should be playing?
  12. Good pull. It does. Let's hope we see the same immediate results.
  13. Nor Yoshida's, but pitching in some serious cash or taking back a bloated contract might be an option. Duran's poor D, this year makes me think the initial idea is a Duran-Refsnyder DH with Duran playing LF vs some LHPs. Anthony gets his FT role (LF vs R and RF v L) Rafaela stays put as the FT CF'er. When Breg returns, the DH turns into a wider mix, or we make another trade.
  14. No doubt, that hole cannot be fixed from within the system, this year, no matter how much we may love the 3 kids. We already have a Toro-Romy thing going that is miraculously replacing our preseason Casas expectations pretty well. Now, we have an impossible ask, and to think this was done before Bregman's return makes it even more shocking.
  15. People talk about how a new manager can shake up a clubhouse. This has to do some serious shaking- for good or bad. Everybody will be doing a self-check after this doozy.
  16. It seems like anybody could be on the block, now, except a kid. Story's contract. Yoshida's contract. Duran and the OF logjam, even with a DH slot open. Duran has more value to PHI as an OF'er than to BOS as a DH. (Abreu instead of Duran? Sell high on Rafaela?)
  17. Don't mess with the ABreu-Ref RF platoon. When Ref retires, we can deal with our excess OF by having one move to RF, those games. Rafaela seems to be hitting well enough to stay our FT CF'er, until he proves he can't. Anthony is not going to be traded, now should he, unless he's part of a Skenes trade. That leaves Duran. I have nothing against him. His speed is such a big plus, maybe he should be ranked ahead of Rafaela or Abreu, but our D would suffer a lot by trading one of them over Duran, despite the belief, by many, that Duran is a plus defender. (Duran cannot play RF. Rafaela might be the best defensive CF BOS has ever seen. That's no knock on Jarren.)
  18. He used to suck on D, looked pretty good in 2023, much better in 2024, including in CF, then kinda meh, so far this year. Anthony is better. Rafaela is way better. Abreu is way better and can play RF. Duran> Refsnyder on D. It's not that Duran sucks on D, he's just 4th best on the Sox. Also, we may end up playing Campbell in the OF, in the long run, especially with a healthy Bregman back and KC & mayer hitting well enough to stave off a demotion. (A Story trade might be next.) Maybe his value would be higher on another team playing the OF more than DH.
  19. Agreed, but with Duran being the worst defensive OF'er, except for maybe Refsnyder, he will likely DH more than any of them. Once Bregman returns, we'll have an extra infielder to cycle through the DH slot to add. In a sense, we will be replacing Devers bat with a mix of more PAs from Mayer, Anthony and KC while lessening the impact on PAs by Abreu, Duran, Rafaela and Story. If we DH Refsnyder vs LHPs, who plays RF? Anthony? vs R LF: Anthony & Duran (one DHs) CF: Rafaela (Duran some games) RF: Abreu vs L LF: Duran CF: Rafaela RF: Anthony DH: Refsnyder
  20. Those eye rolls were telling. Cora not even daring to ask Devers to play 1B was too, if we believe what many say happened and did not happen. I really liked Devers. He looked like a kid who really loved playing the game. He produced like no other Sox player since the Betts and JD days. That may not be saying much, since we've had a pretty weak team with a revolving door of guys names Renfroe, Duvall, O'Neill & Turner. This is truly amazing, shocking and a bit scary.
  21. He's gaining weight? Before the DH and 1B issues, was he an attitude issue? The guy has been our best hitter for a long time. He's been a Yankee killer and RBI machine for years. Until the injury, last August, he was on pace for a career high in OPS and was pretty close, this year, too. The FT DH thing is valid. The $30M a year thing, into his mid to later 30's, too. The unwillingness to play 1B has been beaten to death, and apparently Cora never asked him to do it, but I do agree that no DH is worth $30M a year. Add inflation adjustments and Papi never made near that. All I can say is that JH better spend teh savings, or we are right back to square one with him, again. This cancels out the Bregman signing, financially.
  22. Will it be Duran to DH? LF: Anthony CF: Rafaela RF Abreu/Refsnyder or... Once Bregman returns, some infielder to DH? (KC, Mayer, Bregman, Story rotation?)
  23. Harrison was a top 25 prospect, last year. Maybe we think he can be the next Crochet. While Devers has enormous value, he value per dollar spent is in negative territory, according to BTV. The age old question will be: does JH pocket the money, most of the money or repurpose it to boost us in an area we need more than a FT DH. Maybe Bregman can return earlier as a DH. Maybe we still have faith in a Yoshida return. Maybe this was made to free up the OF logjam, once Abreu returns. Is the downgrade from Devers to Duran at DH and Anthony in LF vs Duran more than the plus we get in the rotation and farm? Inquiring minds want to know.
