  1. We need Gio to start a playoff game. That is a no brainer. We start De Leon and try to win.
  2. We could have gone with... 3B Eaton SS Sogard 2B DHam or played Romy at 2B and DHam/Sogard at 2B Story should be rested today.
  3. Is Drohan, Jack Anderson of Isaac Coffey any better? Clearly better?
  4. Yes. I'm not for 32 teams, but the money is a big lure. I think 32 would help them justify going to a 16 team playoff structure and you got it.... more money!
  5. DHam has 2 pluses: 1. Baserunning, but Eaton is nearly as good at that. 2. Defense at 2B, but Romy is good enough at 2B and might play their FT. The only issue might be that Romy could play 1B vs LHPs, since Lowe really sucks vs lefties, but again, DHam sucks vs LHPs, too, so no way I play him over Lowe. Sorry, DHam. You sit this out. You did nothing to earn a slot.
  6. Yup. Keeping the kids (Early & Harrison) fresh as well as lining up Gio for a playoff start.
  7. We probably only need 11 pitchers- 12 tops, but we'll need an innings eater, in case someone(s) gets yanked early or we want a mop up long relief guy. I'd go with 2: Early and Harrison. That makes 11 with your 9. The 12th and maybe 13th guys would be between Murphy, Tolle and Kelly- in that order, in my opinion. (Kelly out and maybe Tolle, too..) I'd like to give Cora more everyday player options, so he can PH and PR more often. I doubt we go with 15 everyday players, but 14 could happen: 11 Locks: Bregman, Story, Duran, Rafaela, Abreu, Narvaez, Yoshida, Romy, Refsnyder, Lowe, Wong. That leaves 2-3 from: (IMO, by this order) Eaton Sogard DHam (likely odd man out)
  8. If we ever see a 32 team MLB, it would open several options: Two 16 team leagues: 3 games vs 16 teams from other league: 3 x 16=48 games 7 games vs 15 teams in own league: 7 x 15=105 games 153 game season (if you played 8 vs own league, if would be a 168 game season) The 153 game season would allow for longer playoffs with 8 teams making it from each league. You could also have longer series to add more revenue and more high stakes games. (Four 7 game series to win a WS, or maybe the first round 5 games.) Or go to four 8 team divisions and unbalanced schedules with the same issues we have today. 3 games vs other league (3 x 16=48) 6 games vs other division (6 x 8=48) 9 games vs own division (9 x 7=63) 159 game schedule
  9. Agreed, and as long as we have an AL-NL, there could be a way to devise an equal schedule within each league: 4 games vs each team in other league: 4 x 15 teams=60 games 7 games vs own league teams: 7 x 14=98 games 158 games or 3 games vs each team in other league: 3 x 15=45 games 8 games vs each team in own league: 8 x 14=112 gams 167 game schedule or 2 games vs each other league team: 30 games 9 games vs own league teams: 126 games 156 games At least each team in each league plays the same schedule as each other.
  10. But they will never ever play the exact same schedules. That would mean... 5 games vs 29 teams=145 schedule or 6 games vs 29 teams=174 schedule
  11. Yes, the players do their best to win every game, but not the manager- in this specific case.
  12. ...and how many of DD's best additions were made possible by Ben's highly-regarded prospects. Hey, we probably don't sign Gio without the money saved from the Sale trade. (Sale is hurt, again while Gio will likely start a playoff game for us.)
  13. We play 3 games in the first round. It should be Crochet, Giolito & Bello. If Gio pitches today. he misses the first round or pitches on short rest.
  14. The bigger flaw is giving division winners a higher initial seed that teams with better records. The playoffs should be seeded by record. 1. TOR or NYY vs winner of 4-5 seeds. 2. NYY or TOR vs winner of 3 (SEA)-6 seeds. TOR and NYY earned the two best records by being the two best team. They played in the toughest division against tougher opponents.
  15. We won't start Giolito, right? He'd miss game 3 of the playoffs or be pitching on short rest.
  16. Unless Bregman totally collapses after deciding to stay with BOS, he will still get another deal afterwards. He's getting so much from us, that if you add what he might get in his next contract to this one, it could easily outweigh what he might get on a 4-5 year new deal, this winter. I'm starting to think he stays. He seems to like BOS and has the Cora connection.
  17. He was on the 26 when the trade was made, so when they said they "will add," it meant another.
  18. I doubt the bottom bench guys play at all. We probably will not even need 13 pitchers, as I see Crochet, Bello, Giolito, Chapman & Whitlock getting 70-75% of the playoff innings and Slaten, Weissert & Early getting almost all of the remaining 25-30%. There could be some mop up innings to give to someone, but if the games are on the line we'll likely see these 8 pitchers get 95%+ of the innings. On offense, we will see some platoon action, but even that has lessened as Romy has hit righties well enough, and we have no better 2B option, anyway. I think we'll go with Yoshida FT at DH and platoon Ref with Abreu, but maybe Ref DHs vs a LH SP'er. Everyone else is FT. If Narvaez gets 2 days of rest, he can start the 3 games in NY or TOR.
  19. Nice breakdown. It should be mentioned that several Brez additions were made possible by trading Bloom prospects and players- many with very high trade value.
  20. I have confidence in Crochet, Chapman and Whitlock. Although Gio and Bello have had very nice seasons and might have better numbers that who they might face, I worry most about them. However, my number one concern is the offense. You can't lose Devers, and .820 career OPS 1Bman and then a guy like Anthony and not be worried. We've already seen our preseason back-up catcher win the FT job. We've seen platoon guys like Romy and Ref starting vs RHPs, more and more. We've seen Yoshida go from the forgotten and banished DH to our late September hot bat. We've seen the highly missing in action Trevor Story lead the team in HRs and RBI. We've seen our CF, hovering near .700 all season find a way to lead our team to the playoffs with huge hits and spectacular defense. We've seen the likes of Nate Lowe, Eaton, Sogard or DHam being forced to start- sometimes 2 or 3 of them at a time. With Abreu back, that should not happen as much, but still... Our offense is the biggest concern.
  21. There will be an all AL East bracket to the AL side of the playoffs: #5 BOS at #4 NYY for 3 games in NY. The winner plays TOR in a 5 game series w TOR getting home field advantage. The winner faces the other half of the bracket that includes #2 SEA facing the winner of DET v CLE. It seems a bit rough on the AL East, when the #1, #2 and #4 best records are all from the ALE, and only one can advance to the ALCS. SEA has the 3rd best record and gets for face the weakest 2 teams by records in the playoffs winner. The ALE also has the #10 and #12 teams in the AL and the other two divisions have the 3 worst teams in the AL and 9 or the worst 11 teams in the AL.
  22. How about CLE making the playoffs with a walk off HBP? HOU was eliminated by that pitch and the CLE win. CLE-DET play their games for the DIV win or WC, tomorrow. From MLB.com... The Blue Jays can clinch the AL East with a win over the Rays OR a Yankees loss to the Orioles. The Guardians can clinch the AL Central with a win over the Rangers OR a Tigers loss to the Red Sox. The Reds can clinch an NL Wild Card spot with a win over the Brewers OR a Mets loss to the Marlins. The Yankees can clinch the AL East with a win AND a Blue Jays loss. The Tigers can clinch the AL Central with a win AND a Guardians loss. The Mets can clinch an NL Wild Card spot with a win AND a Reds loss.
  23. True, but DHam sucks at SS, too. Romero might be better at 3B than DHam.
  24. My prediction: Rafaela or Narvaez homer, this inning.
  25. Once again, this rag-tag pen came through.
