  1. They should have sent Marco. We're the only team in the league that doesn't score on those types of hits more than 80% of the time (by my estimation).
  2. Rutledge is probably a better fielding 3Bman than Pablo and Marco, and he hits from the right side. (In all fairness, Holt hits LHPs slightly better than righties, but I still think Rutledge at 3B vs LHPs is better than Marco, Pablo and Holt.)
  3. You got it wrong. I love Hernandez more. Rutledge fits with Hernandez and Pablo better than Holt.
  4. Now that Beni has graduated from prospect status, soxprospects.com has a new ranking list. The first 6 guys went up one slot, but after that there was some movement. Some notable or significant swings... (Remember up 1 is expected.) Lakins up 5 from 12 to 7th. Ockimey up 2 to 8th. Chavis up 2 to 9th. Johnson up 3 to 10th Shaun Anderson up 6 to 13th Ben Taylor up 4 to 16th. Beeks up 6 to 17th. A Taverez up 10 to 18th. Callahan up 12 to 21st. Raudes down 4 to 12th. Longhi down 2 to 11th. Jake Cosart down 11 to 26th T Ball down 13 to 30th. 1-20th: http://soxprospects.com/index.html 21+: http://soxprospects.com/moreprospects.htm
  5. It might be time to trade him.
  6. I have had no issue with the idea of moving Bogey to SS, but not for someone who is not a plus defender at SS right now, Marco. Someday, maybe.
  7. I read that, but I also think it was Henry who gave Lucchino more power than Ben (and too much with Theo).
  8. Plus, we rid ourselves of these offense-lacking batters: PA OPS Player 530 .726 T Shaw (Pablo has not delivered here, yet.) 137 .577 A Hill 113 .468 Hanigan 35 .500 Holaday Plus, projected less PAs from these offensively-challenged players: PA OPS Player 324 .705 Holt 64 .690 Brentz
  9. I'd bunt just enough to keep the opps "honest"-- no more.
  10. But when you have two good OB guys- put the faster one first. Ding-Ding-DONG!
  11. Since we have no clear leadoff hitter, I'd put him there. I guess Bogey could lead off vs LHPs. I never liked the idea of Pedey leading off. Yes, 15-18 HRs seems about right year one.
  12. Pretty telling, if you ask me.
  13. Yes, vs RHPs, it looks like a no-brainer, unless you want his power utilized in the 3 slot.
  14. Ross is not a LOOGY. Career OPS against LHB .717 RHB .714
  15. MLBTR... Red Sox reliever Carson Smith has had a setback in his recovery from 2016 Tommy John surgery, as Jen McCaffrey of MassLive.com writes. Smith was throwing off a mound a couple of weeks ago but has “had to slow down,” manager John Farrell told reporters. Smith is long tossing from 110 feet but is now two weeks removed from his most recent mound session. Boston had been targeting a June return for Smith, but a July return is now more realistic, per McCaffrey. The Red Sox have had rough luck when trading for potential setup arms; in addition to losing Smith for more than a year due to Tommy John surgery just months after trading for him, the team has yet to reap any benefit from its trade to acquire Tyler Thornburg this offseason, as Thornburg has been sidelined all season by a right shoulder impingement. CSNNE.com’s Evan Drellich tweeted recently that Farrell said on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM that Thornburg essentially needs to progress through Spring Training all over again, which would normally consist of seven to 10 appearances.
  16. soxprospects.com... After dropping the opener, the PawSox prevailed in the regularly-scheduled contest. Brentz blasted another solo shot, his third home run of the season, and Ryan Court also went deep for Pawtucket. Henry Owens turned in a strong outing, giving up a run on five hits in six innings. Most importantly for Owens, he issued only two walks. Brandon Workman earned his first professional save with a perfect seventh, his fourth consecutive scoreless outing to begin the 2017 season.
  17. True, but maybe sometimes shaking things up gets the players energized.
  18. I'm not suggesting we demote him because of a slow start. I wanted this since before the season started.
  19. That begs the question, "what are we waiting for?" I'm not saying making that move is going to energize our offense right away, but we should make an effort to try and jump start things. The line-ups I suggested in December: vs RHPs: 1) Beni 2) Bogey 3) Betts 4) Pedey 5) HRam 6) JBJ 7) Pablo 8) Moreland 9) Leon vs LHPs 1) Beni 2) Bogey 3) Betts 4) HRam 5) Young 6) Pedey 7) JBJ 8) Rutledge/Hernandez 9) Vaz
  20. Go with Beni at one! I agree.
  21. Then, to score runs by not getting doubled up, taking extra bases on hits by the guys behind you by using your speed and scoring runs. Pedey is not fast. His base-running score on fangraphs was a plus from 2007-2012, but has gone down since: '11 +2.1 '12 +0.3 '13 -1.1 '14 -1.2 '15 -1.1 '16 -4.5 (It's at -1.4 in less than a month this year: this is a cumulative stat.)
  22. Pedey's career numbers by batting slot: 1.054 4th .815 2nd .802 3rd .800 9th .761 1st
  23. Nobody has hit like a "stud" in April. I agree. I do feel Betts is a stud. HRam, Beni, JBJ, Pedey and Bogey are plus hitters. I'm hoping April was just a fluke with everyone slumping at the same time. It's hard to imagine 5 of our best hitters all having a serious decline year at the same time. I sure as hell hope not! I still see top 5, but we better warm up real soon for that to become a reality.
  24. I've always thought Bogey should bat 2nd until he shows the power everyone promised.
