  1. As our not-so-great ex-governor would say, "Oooops!"
  2. So true. I caight a lot of crap on "that other site" for suggesting we trade Holt way back when...
  3. Wake was pretty close to the exact situation like Wright. He had a short stretch of greatness (just 13 starts his first year) followed by a poor stretch. Unlike Wright, he was released by the Pirates. He had a couple of good years in the minors before joining the big club in Pitt. Pitt wrote off Wake too early. Maybe you guys are writing Wright off too early- pun intended. Maybe not. We'll see. Wright had a 2.18 ERA after 15 starts in 2017- a longer sample size than Wake's in Pitt. He still had a 3.01 ERA after 22 starts. He also pitched well for the Sox in 2014 and 2015, and while he didn't do great in the minors in 2015, he did very well in 2012, 2013 and 2014. His body of work since 2012 looks a lot like Wake's early going.
  4. I agree. Too many mental mistakes. Usually, the manager is blamed for this, but the players need to get their heads out of their asses.
  5. Wright was very good before his "hot first half". Leaping to definitive judgments over a 4 to 10 game recent sample size while ignoring his longer previous number even before 2016 is not being just. Yes, he had some tough stretches before 2017, but many many more good ones. I remember hearing the same after Wake's hot start with the Sox.
  6. Well, I can go back to May 18th and say that 12 of his last 17 starts of 2018 saw him let up 3 or less ERs. 18 of 24 starts were with 3 or less ERs allowed. 13 of 24 were 2 or less ERS allowed. Yes, 5 of his last 14 starts saw him let up 5 or more ERs and 9 of 14 saw 4+ ERs, but again, injury and recovery was involved. It wasn't the reason he struggled, but it should be a consideration. Of course, I'd have benched Wright, if he continued like he was going in 5 starts this year (a small sample size).
  7. Of course I hated watching Wright's recent starts, but I'm not one to think a pitcher's future is best projected by just looking at his most recent 4, 5 or 10 starts, especially if an injury (or recent recovery) has been a factor in those starts. The fact is Wright has a much longer history of doing well, especially when healthy, than doing poorly. I guess I just don't give up on players as quickly as some do. Heck, I thought JBJ's first 750 PAs was not a large enough sample size. I'm glad the Sox felt the same way. Wright is a damn good pitcher. The knuckleball really messes up opponents timing. It can easily assist the pitcher who follows Wright the next day. Bad recent starts or not, I had more faith in Wright turning things around than Kendrick or Johnson or Owens shining.
  8. Beltre makes $18M. If we trade for him at the 2/3 season mark, his luxury tax hit would be just $6M this year. We'd be under the tax this year, but the hit would hurt next year. I agree, if we go out and get a 3Bman, it should be a 1 year rental to carry us to Devers and a minimum contract. (like Todd Frazier?)
  9. He got hurt. I guess we should just give up on anyone who gets hurt or anyone that gets hurt and happen to rely on a pitch you hate.
  10. You're assuming Wright was going to continue pitching like his handful of starts this year and not his dozens of starts from recent years.
  11. So is Brian Johnson.
  12. It's also possible the defender can fake like he's having difficulty in order for the ump to not call the infield fly rule.
  13. A hint would be for him to be called up to AAA soon, but I trust Sox management to know to do the right thing. One thing is almost certain, although Devers is not known for great D, even with the vast improvement last year, he's better than anyone we have now on D at 3rd.
  14. YES! We almost have to have Devers and Travis take Moreland's (and eventually HRam's) and Pablo's places (and contracts), so we can keep as many of our young stars and vets once they reach free agency.
  15. I didn't notice, if he was screaming or not. Even if he was, they might not hear him. JBJ should not be told he has to run to 1B. The other two were in a difficult position, but even little leaguers know that when the ball drops- you RUN!
  16. I blame that on the Pom and Kimbrel trades. This is... Chris Freakin' Sale ...we're talkin' about!
  17. Correct. That makes the deal much more appetizing, but I'm a huge JBJ fan, and I think Devers will ready by next year. There's also the financial concern for arb 4 year.
  18. Even Moreland has looked bad. Bad defense sickens me.
  19. What does that tell you about a team that has already demonstrated they are lacking in the fundamentals? 3 guys make mental mistakes on one play! I'm usually the last to call for a managerial change, but I'm close to being for it right now.
  20. 3 1/3 seasons from JBJ + 4 1/3 or more seasons from Marco + a prospect for 1/3 season from Donaldson? I wouldn't do it. We'd have to find an OF'er this winter as well. I'd give Devers a chance before we do anything major like this for a rental at 3B.
  21. We might be seeing him in Boston sooner than we expected.
  22. Have I ever mentioned I'm so freakin' glad we have... Chris Freakin' Sale!
  23. Another example of grown men not thinking.
  24. Good observations. I pretty much sucked at hitting a baseball, but loved and did very well on defense. Softball was like hitting a beach ball. I hit over .500 several seasons in slow pitch kegger leagues. My fondest memories about baseball and softball all are about big defensive plays. I really wish our Sox could field like the O's did last night-- even if just for one game. There were plays made last night that I'm not sure I ever saw a Sox player make, and I've been following them since 1972! I think we're a better on defense than we have shown, but we're a long way away from superb defense, except maybe at 2B and in CF and RF.
