  1. We're an average hitting team, so it's not like we're 28th or something. We have almost everyone under performing, so there is a chance we heat up when needed.
  2. Our great history of hitting has often led to disappointment and failure. Great pitching might not be as exciting to watch, but I'm hopeful the end result will be satisfying.
  3. It appears Devers has much better range than Pablo. Maybe the error count might be similar, but I'm pretty sure the 2017 Devers will be a step or two up from Pablo's defense.
  4. Great point. I'm happy Devers is up. I hope Sox management didn't "panic", but I'm trusting they know what they are doing in this area. I'm also sure a lot of people were in on the decision.
  5. Understandable, S5. DP is not one of my favorite players, but I usually like to cut these guys some slack. It's a long season. People get grumpy and snippity. Most apologize when these kind of things happen, but I'm not sure we know the whole story, so I'm giving him somewhat of a pass on this one, but if this type of thing continues, then my views could change.
  6. I can see how Devers spending so little time in AAA looks a little panicky after saying they'd give him time at each level, but I've always felt like once a player is promoted to AAA, for the most part, he's only a hair away from MLB anyways.
  7. Yes, I agreed with you that trusting Sox management to know when Devers was ML ready was the right thing to do. Of course big team need always is a factor in these decisions and there comes a point where the decision tips to "call-up" time. I'm sure management had hoped there would be no need to push things with Devers. I'm sure they would have liked to have kept the extra year of control too, but if they think he's ready, I'm fine with their choice. If he struggles, I won't blame DD & Co.
  8. Robbie Ross to 60 day DL to make room for Devers on the 40 man roster. Kyle Martin to AAA to make room for Devers on the 25 man roster. Considering all the injuries our pen has dealt with this year, we hardly heard about the loss of Ross. He has been one of our steadiest pen arms over the past 2 years. 1. Kimbrel 2. C Smith (out all year, so far) 3. Thornburg (out all year) 4. Kelly 5. Ross (out for most of the season) 6. Barnes 7. Hembree 8. Abad 9. Workman (missed most of the first half) 10. Scott 11. Elias (missed all season) Plus... Boyer, Taylor, Maddox, Martin, Ramirez
  9. Last year, our rotation and pen were rather dull at the 100 game mark (with Wright out injured).
  10. No, I look at his whole career sample size, which is much larger than either 2017 sample size you provided, and I think that Moreland was just coming back down to earth. I'm not saying the injury wasn't part of the reason he declined, but I would have projected a decline even if healthy.
  11. 1B Offense (Defense) from fangraphs 4. Smoak 23.3 (+0.8 UZR/150) 7. Alonso 17.7 (-3.6) 10. Abreu 12.4 (-2.7) 12. J Bour 11.8 (+4.6) 13. Hosmer 10.0 (+0.8) 14. J Gallo 9.7 (-3.6) 16. W Myers 6.5 (-8.8) 24. Valencia -3.5 (-0.1) 25. Moreland -4.3 (+2.9) Duda +5.7(+2.3)
  12. It could just be that Moreland was being Moreland.
  13. I hope he starts out hot, so we don't have to hear all the second-guessing.

  16. Last year, after 100 games, we were 55-45 and in the midst of losing 4 straight and 6 out of 7 games. We then went 6-7 over the next 13 games. People seemed happier with the team last year.
  17. It might have just been the wrong time of the month. It seems like a direct apology was in order, but to me, I don't really worry about this kind of stuff too much.
  18. I'm not defending Price. I'm just not sure we know all the facts, so I'll hold back judging anyone.
  19. He's done well vs LHPs in a small sample size, but I agree. We needed a new 3Bman, and Devers now has his chance. It seems like almost everyone wanted him called up, and now it sounds like lots of doubts.
  20. I guess this could be interpreted as Price coming to the defense of a teammate and not a sign that he thinks he's bigger than the team. I'm not sure we'll ever know all the reasonings behind what players say and do. This whole thing does not bother me at all.
  21. $150/6 implies the Tigers will pay $42M, as Miggy is due $192/6.
  22. Me three.
  23. Expecting anyone else to come close to Papi's age curve is wishful thinking, at best. Miggy is only 34, so I do think one can reasonably expect a few more big seasons from him before he reaches 39 or 40. The money is what worries me most.
  24. Yes, I did, but in the context that Pablo's was a 4 year decline while Miggy's is a "just" a year "decline" (actually a half year) or "blip". Never the less, his bad half year should be at least a little concerning with his bloated contract.
  25. Yes, his defense is a concern, but our defense at 3B has been a concern at the ML level as well. That was the point I was making. I never meant to imply that Devers is a great fielding 3Bman. His RF/9 is 2.87 on the farm (2.44 this year) while Boston's has been 1.90. This a rather crude stat, but it does hint at the idea that Devers might make up for a few extra errors by making more plays than our 3Bmen have been making this year. (Note: he will not be a defensive upgrade over Marrero.)
