Haven't heard any talk on Justin Upton (as a DH). How about Porcello (2 years left) for 35 year old AGon ($21.5M/1 yr)? That would free up some money for Cobb.

I've always been high on Wright- higher than most, and maybe my faith is unfounded, but he looks like he could be a nice depth next year.

According to Kimmi, giving up 1 low single A player would be an overpay, because any team could have had him for nothing by just claiming him off waivers.

I didn't expect us to get anything of great value in return. I just wanted to dump salary. I do think some team would have taken HRam off our hands. He looked like a decent 1Bman. Maybe we'd have had to pay $2-5M a year as an offset, but I think we could have traded him. I cans ee why we didn't, and like I said, even I changed my mind and wanted to keep him. -
Last winter you did not think we needed Sale, yet now you think we need a quality starter. I'm a bit confused. I get how our confidence in Price and Porcello has fallen, but the opposite should be true of ERod and Pom. Plus, we should have Wright returning.

My top priorities are always to add an ace. I'm not sure how realistic that is this off season. We have Price returning, hopes that Porcello can get his act together (again) and Wright as a hopeful depth piece. This what I want: 1) A GREAT clean-up hitter (if he can play 1B- all the better) 2) A solid bench player like Nunez, since Pedey, HRam and no 4th OF'er are question marks in 2018. I would not seek a 2/3 starter. I'd add a couple guys like Fister as depth in hopes we can find someone like the 2017 Fister. I'd leave the pen untouched. Adding full seasons from Smith, Thornburg and Ross should enough.

Great points. I liked Pom and his 3 playoff cycles of team control. He didn't help last year, but he has this year. He's done better than anyone expected, but we need a ring to clinch the idea that we "won the trade" or "broke even" assuming Espi goes on to do well.

The other key fact was that we led the league in runs by 100 last year. Scoring 100 less runs this year is significant, and saying we'd still have led the league is a bit misleading in some ways. Yes, what made the rest of the league leap frog us? Half the reason was us coring 100 less runs. The other half is almost certainly tied to the massive power increase that somehow passed us by. Losing big Papi had a role in both of these halves. Significant downturns by 8 of our returning 9 top PA players from 2016 plays a huge role as well.
