  1. It might depend on which teams get JD Martinez, Hosmer, Moose and Santana. Teams hoping to score one of them but missing out may join in on the Stanton sweepstakes.
  2. Hernandez is better than Holt, when healthy. They actually went with him first this year, so I'm not the only one high on Hernandez. He played in 21 of our first 27 games this year. Then he got hurt. Yes, he played this year. (He had a .752 OPS in AAA.)
  3. If we go with a 4 man bench and keep Leon, and go with Marco as the starting 2Bman, then Brentz and Marrero would squeeze Holt, Lin & Travis to AAA.
  4. Duda vs RHPs since 2014.... ISO .260 (9th in MLB) (JD Martinez is 19th at .259/Bryce Harper is 8th at .261.) OPS (800+ PAs) .861 (27th out of 271 players) 22nd out of all players with 1400+ PAs Duda has averages 32 HRs per 650 PAs vs RHPs since 2014. I'd like to see us get Duda to compliment HRam at 1B and cover for any injury to HRam or Martinez.
  5. Ohtani can be posted Dec 1st. He may not be the first domino to fall.
  6. I like Marco Hernandez more than any other IF sub. I'd probably put Lin second, but I'm fine with keeping him in AAA to allow us to keep an out-of-options player. I'd like to keep Swihart for one last look. I'd keep Marrero over Holt, but I can see why we may want to avoid shortening our depth, at least until Pedey is back. I think Hembree is good enough to keep on the 25 man roster. Someone is bound to get hurt and allow Workman or someone else to be called up.
  7. Hosmer & Santana got QOs. JD has missed some time (elbow and ankle), but I believe he was not really a FT player until 2014 or so. If we sign him, he should be our DH.
  8. My biggest beef at the end of the year was that game JF kept him in for 8 innings of a blow-out vs BAL. There was another game in SEPT we were up 9-0 in the 3rd inning. I think JF yanked him after 6, but he could have taken him out after 4 or 5 innings. I doubt those 4-5 innings combined makes a big difference, but it might have helped.
  9. I don't want to break up the OF either. JD at DH with maybe 20 games in the OF is fine with me. He'd be a very expensive DH, but we need power, and he's not a QO free agent. I'd also sign Duda. With about 180 games available at DH/1B, Duda would complement HRam nicely and be there to take over, if HRam stumbles or gets injured.
  10. Yes, dead set against Hosmer.
  11. Aaron Judge Undergoes Shoulder Surgery By Jeff Todd | November 21, 2017 at 2:23pm CDT Breakout Yankees slugger Aaron Judge has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder, according to a club announcement. Per the announcement, Judge received a “loose-body removal and cartilage clean-up.”
  12. LOL. Then, sign JD Martinez, Lucas Duda and a decent pitcher and call it a successful winter. JD plays 20 games in the OF- mostly in NL Parks or to rest an OF'er. He plays 135 games at DH. HRam plays 1B for 100-130 games. Duda plays 1B for the remainder and a little DH.
  13. There's little to no market for Holt now- maybe for a low A prospect with little future upside. I think Holt has to show he's back to a .705 hitter or so to restore any higher trade value.
  14. There were a few chances to remove Sale from a game earlier without really risking a loss. I think we should have done that this year. I think we have to do that next year. With 5 more days off next year, we could give sale an extra day 5 more times plus yank him earlier maybe 5 times more than this year. There's no way of knowing, if that's enough, but, to me, it's worth the risk. (Personally, I'd do even more than that.)
  15. We could just wait until he gets to 450 PAs and put him back in LF. (Just kidding.)
  16. It's not a "deathnail", but when counting the luxury tax, it's enough to prevent us from signing a very significant player or holding off an extension for a year.
  17. I meant what's the difference with the fans and posters? It took us to see if first hand rather than rely on the long-standing data? That fits (in my eyes).
  18. There was a market for Holt 2-3 years ago. I ahve to think, if he shows he can return to that level, there might be a market for him in 2018. Granted, we're not getting a really good prospect for him either way.
  19. Should have seen it this year. For those who pushed back on the idea this year, whats dif'ferent about next year?
  20. Exactly. It's like adding $12-15M to Santana's contract (for 1-2 years anyways). We can sign Santana and not JB and just DH HRam FT.
  21. I would too, but $22M says HRam will play 1B or DH for us next year. There is talk we contacted Duda, so maybe my suggestion will come true. (More or less platoon HRam to keep him from getting 497 PAs and vesting his option.)
  22. Is there any value in keeping Holt just to see if he can build up trade value? If he has a strong spring training, and some team has a serious injury, he may become more wanted than now.
  23. To me, these guys probably aren't "good enough" to make the 25 man roster, but they are out of options. Marrero Swihart Brentz Hembree The questions are: 1) Are they good enough to make some other team's 25 man roster? (If yes, then a trade is possible to those teams.) 2) Do we makes sure they are placed on the 25 man roster to keep system depth by keeping similar or better players in AAA until needed? Assuming all players out of options make the 25 man roster, this is what it would look like (before any acquisitions): I'll leave Pedey & ERod off the roster and concentrate on the opening day 25 man roster... C- Vaz 1B- HRam 2B- Hernandez (Pedey after DL?) 3B- Devers SS- Bogaerts LF- Beni CF- JBJ RF- Betts Bench- Leon, Holt, Marrero, Brentz SP- Sale, Price, Pom. Porcello, Wright (Erod after DL) RP- Kimbrel, Smith, Kelly, Barnes, Maddox, Scott, Hembree Players in AAA because of Marrero, Swihart, Brentz and Hembree: Lin is probably better than Holt and Marrero. When Pedey returns, Holt or Hernandez may be forced down, so we can keep Marrero. Travis might be a better option than Swihart or Marrero/Holt. Workman is better than Hembree, IMO. Taylor or Johnson might be better chocies as well. When Thorburg returns, Scott or Maddox might be forced to AAA to keep Hembree on the roster. None of these choice are earth-shattering. If we have to trade or DFA Holt, Marrero, Swihart, Brentz or Hembree, nobody will lose any sleep, but what else is there to talk about at this point in the off season?
  24. True, but as they sign free agents, the need for Holt should only lessen.
  25. Well, when a player's 850 innings at a position are spread out over 6 years (2012), then they are "older" than someone who has 850 innings over the last 2 years. One could argue that Holt's defense has not gotten worse at age 29. One could even argue he should be better now. I will say, I have never viewed Holt as a plus fielder at any position. He should never play 3B or SS, unless it's an emergency. I'd avoid CF and 1B as well. He's okay at 2B, LF and RF. Just my opinion.
