I'm sure everyone's average career salary looks lower when you factor in the early year salaries. I'm not sure that's a good way of justifying a contract signed as a player nears or is at or past prime. I was happy with both Pedey signings. The first one was a home town discount, for sure. The second one was probably still below market value at the time. Does anyone think the Sox would have said no to Pedey's 2015 option at $11M just because he had put up a .712 OPS in 2014? I guess an argument could be made not to resign him after the 2015 season at market rates. His OPS+ numbers after those two great seasons in 2010 and 2011 (127 and 131) never really came close afterwards. 114 in 2012 115 in 2013 99 in 2014 112 in 2015 (93 games) After that contract would have run out, he's been at... 117 in 2016 101 in 2017 (105 games)

I totally agree. I'm still glad we hired Coraa. I'm pretty sure our pen is going to be an overall plus this season.

It's one thing that has kept me away from most game threads for years. I'm not trying to come off as sanctimonious here, but it never ceases to amaze me how many posters rush to judgement on a player based on 1 pitch, 1 plate appearance, 1 play, 1 inning or even one full game. Baseball is a game of millimeters. Kelly's no movement 100 mph fastball worked pretty good last year. Now, after one partial inning, he sucks. Cora sucks. Vaz sucks. HRam sucks. Mookie sucks. It's just one freakin' game! (Your next post was a great one, MVP, and it explains, pretty well to me, why we didn't see Kimbrel in the 8th. I guess, in hindsight, one could argue we could have brought Kimbrel in in the 8th and someone else in the 9th (Smith?), but imagine if we'd gotten out of the 8th and then Smith blew the 9th. Nunez may be one of the best 5+ position subs in MLB,and you're right, he hasn't been an iron man by any stretch of the imagination. However, I think our depth beyond our number one sub (Nunez) is as good as anyone's else beyond their first sub, if not better. C- Leon & Swihart 1B- Moreland, Travis, Swihart 2B/3B/SS- Hernandez, Holt, Lin OF- JMart, Holt, Swihart, Lin (Castillo) These guys aren't great, but no teams have great subs beyond their best sub. Some teams even have bad first subs.

It was "crappy" yesterday, but I think it's a pen that is better than it was last year- a year of pretty good pitching from our relievers.
