  1. Yes, the $230 includes Castillo. No, Castillo's contract does not count against the luxury tax. #
  2. When I say, "This is the line-up I would do," I'm not saying, "This is what I think it will be," so I would not bet on Cora choosing my line-up. On Beni-Betts, Cora may lead off Beni vs RHPs and Betts vs LHPs and swap them vs LHPs. In a small sample size, Beni has done very poorly vs LHPs. Personally, I'd move Beni down when a lefty starts. I do not think Cora agrees.
  3. I'm guessing Devers is the X (6 slot), but he may move up to 5th, if he rakes. Plus, I doubt Cora submits an eight man line-up day one.
  4. Yes, $230 includes Pablo & Castillo. Next year's losses; $22M HRam (vesting) $13M Kimbrel $8.5M Pomeranz $3.8M Kelly Nunez may opt out. Sale's option will likely be renewed. Holt may be let go $2M.
  5. One could argue we've become what the Yankees used to be. We are $50M ahead of the 4th highest spending team!
  6. Lin has some good defensive rankings by scouts. I trust what they say. soxprospects.com.. Field: Above-average defensive potential at shortstop. Gets good reads off the bat and has range to both sides. Fluid actions, soft hands. Confident defender, reads the ball off the bat well and comfortable charging the ball. Has some versatility to play second base, third base, and center field. Also, to me, Marrero's defense has been a bit of a let down. Maybe my expectations were too high to start. soxprospects writes thids about DM: Field: Plus defender. Extremely athletic. Not flashy, makes it look easy. As fundamentally sound as they come. Great body control and is able to throw from all angles and on the run. Active lower half with agility, quick lateral movements, and soft hands. Plus range and first-step quickness and reactions. Future gold glove potential.
  7. Softy "the clown" (from the old BDC) wanted Papi demoted to AAA.
  8. Marrero was at .944 vs LHPs last year (.425 v RHPs). More than double the OPS!
  9. I don't see any harm in saying, "this is what I think the line-up should be."
  10. Maybe he meant 5th best in the Sox system.
  11. He's been okay vs LHPs (.710 career) but sucks vs RHPs (.487). He was at .944 vs LHPs last year (.425 v RHPs).
  12. My guess on opening day DLs: Pedey (maybe 60 day) ERod (maybe 60 say) Thornburg Hernandez Swihart or Marrero (phantom)
  13. Agreed. We may even keep a struggling Swihart over a hot Marrero. We know Deven will never hit. We have gloves as good as DM's (Lin).
  14. I'm sure that's one of the motives for saying it, but it's not a far-fetched idea. Besides, I think the data suggest you put your 5th or 6th best hitter up 3rd, so that seems about right.
  15. 1) I did not say I think he will be. I said he could be, and he can. 2) I do not put as much emphasis on just last year's numbers. HRam has had some very good to great years in the last 4-6 years.
  16. He's just worried about Wright's .518 OPS against vs the Yanks. (4-1 1.91)_
  17. That's not a bad problem to have, but I hear you. There is a chance 3 of our 4 best hitters are JDM, Nunez & HRam. There's a good chance 2 of those might struggle, too, but let's assume they don't. Pedey's return squeezes Nunez out of a position and PAs. If we DH Nunez, then JD squeezes out an OF'er (JBJ?). If we teach JD to play 1B, then HRam is squeezed. Moreland looks like an expensive sub. If Pedey ends up being a sub, we're looking at over $20M on the bench for 3 guys: Pedey, Moreland & Holt.
  18. We'd have to unload whatever his AVV is minus about $4-5M. Holt is $2M. JBJ is $6M or maybe HRam could save us $6M out of his $22M. Anybody else would create a terrible hole, except maybe Pedey ($13M).
  19. Plus, having lefty SP'ers in Yankee Stadium is a plus. RHBs OPS vs Sale 2017: .617 Career: .652 Price: .673 ERod: .704 Pom: .723 BTW, Pom had much better splits vs RHBs last year (.693 vs .778) If I were the Yanks, I'd fear these lefties. Numbers vs NYY .555 C Sale .739 Pomeranz .745 Price .749 ERod Note: Porcello is .689 vs the Yanks and .705 vs RHBs. Wright does significantly worse vs RHBs (.753 vs .673) and is .518 vs the Yanks.
  20. Any word on Thornburg? soxprospects.com has ERod and Pedey starting the season on the DL but not Thornburg.
  21. It makes no sense to bench Nunez or HRam, so Holt can play CF.
  22. If Pedey never comes back, the issue of finding Nunez enough PAs goes away, but let's say the Pedey is out 1/3 of the season and gets 400 PAs. There's maybe 2000 PAs between 2B, 3B and SS, It could go this way... 400 Pedey 2B 600 Bogey SS 550 Devers 3B 450 Nunez 2B, SS, 3B We could give Nunez more by reducing HRam's PAs at DH, Moreland's PAs at 1B, or any OF'ers PAs. Then, there's injuries.
  23. 1) We make sure HRam does not vest, so he gets under 495. He should only be guaranteed a start vs LH'd starters. 2) Betts, JBJ and Beni get some rest. JBJ might ride the bench a little more than needed for rest, especially during his patented cold streaks. Beni sucks vs LHPs, so far, so perhaps he sits a few extra games here and there. 3) JD only has over 517 PAS once in his career. He might not get 650+ this year no matter how hard we try. 4) Moreland should never start vs LHPs. ' If it wasn't for Nunez needing some OF/DH PAs to get near 500, I don't see a problem, 3500 PAs for the 5 positions (OF, DH, 1B). 700 Betts 650 JDM 600 Beni 550 JBJ 525 Moreland 475 HRam_____ 3500 Total
  24. Playing JD or Nunez in LF, whenever an OF'er needs rest will help get HRam, Nunez or Moreland some extra PAs,
  25. If we need a CF'er, we move JD to LF and Beni to CF. Nunez can also play LF.
