  1. We're up to 10th in HRS, now with 19.
  2. I think we all knew before seeing it, that JMart in the OF would seriously weaken a great defensive trio. I've seen enough to know that the data was correct. JMart is way worse than JBJ, Betts or Beni on defense.
  3. Well said. While I agree that JF had more knowledge at his disposal than I do, as well. That is not a criteria I use. Any good manager should know way more than I do.
  4. Ooops. I missed him, too. C Saltalmacchia, Tim Federowicz/ Ryan Lavarnway 1B Anthony Rizzo or Adrian Gonzalez, hmm 2B Jed Lowrie/ Yoan Moncada- DH SS Jose Iglesias/ D Marrero 3B Travis Shaw LF Manuel Margot/ Daniel Nava RF Josh Reddick CF Jacoby Ellsbury DH Victor Martinez SP1 Jon Lester SP2 Rich Hill SP3 Anibel Sanchez SP4 Wade Miley SP5 Felix Doubront/ Masterson/ Montas/ Buchholz RP1 Ben Taylor, N Ramirez, Abad RP2 Alex Wilson RP3 J Aro RP4 P Light RP5 Uehara Closer A Miller
  5. I hear you. Missing the playoffs by a half game during the strike year, when teams played different amounts of games was like a knife in the heart. The '75 loss to the Reds was crushing. Bucky Freakin' Dent in 1978. All the in betweens weren't easy either.
  6. True, and there were posters who wanted JF gone before last season even began, so it's hard to say that just one bad strech was the only reason for calling for JF's head.
  7. The all-ex-Red-Sox team In this thread I thought it might be fun to track a fictional team composed of all ex-Red-Sox players and see how they do in comparison to the ones who stayed. First I'll need help filling out the roster; you can find the list of eligible players here: http://www.soxprospects.com/exprospects.htm, although it lists players who currently don't have a job like Ryan Hanigan. I'll start: C Saltalmacchia, Tim Federowicz/ Ryan Lavarnway 1B Anthony Rizzo or Adrian Gonzalez, hmm 2B Jed Lowrie/ Yoan Moncada- DH SS Jose Iglesias/ D Marrero 3B Travis Shaw LF Manuel Margot/ Daniel Nava RF Josh Reddick CF Jacoby Ellsbury DH Victor Martinez SP1 Jon Lester SP2 Rich Hill SP3 Anibel Sanchez SP4 Wade Miley SP5 Felix Doubront/ Masterson/ Montas/ Buchholz RP1 Ben Taylor, N Ramirez RP2 Alex Wilson RP3 J Aro RP4 P Light RP5 Abad Closer Uehara
  8. We'll have a couple rough patches this year. Even the greatest teams have them. Last year, we had these forgettable moments: Lost 4 in a row in late August and 3 in a row in early Sept ( 8 of 12). Lost 4 out of 5 in April Lost 4 out of 5 a couple times in July (12 out of 18) After winning 6 in a row, we lost 5 of 7 to end the season. No, there were not big losing streaks and only a couple extended bad stretches. When we did have those bad streaks last year, some posters went bonkers. I expect that to happen at times this year.
  9. Well said. I might add that maybe "forgiving" is not really needed either. Just get over it. On Pedey's return: I think we start out slow with Pedey. We may only play him 2 out of 3 games to start, then slowly move to 3 out of 4, 4 out of 5, and maybe settle in at 6 out of 7 or 7 out of 8. Let's say we settle on 7 out of 8. That might mean Nunez can see this amount of playing time: 2 out of 16 at 2B 1 out of 16 at SS 1 out of 16 at 3B 1 out of 16 at DH 4 out of 16 in LF (as one from Beni, JBJ and Betts are "rested" 1 out of 4 games.) That's 9 out of 16 games started by Nunez plus some PH opportunities. Maybe that's not enough, but this is assuming zero injuries to 2B, SS, 3B, LF, CF, RF and DH.
  10. Maybe they always walked him after 2.
  11. Remember when some posters, who actually take ST'ing numbers seriously, were wondering if Betts had lost his mojo? That was funny!
  12. Trade JBJ now, while his stock is high. GMs love to trade for guys based on recent 4 game sample sizes. (sarcasm alert)
  13. The kid deserved a shot to show what he's got at the ML level over an extended time. I'm glad he's started out doing well. That means he actually will get an extended chance. I hate keeping "what if" type players on the 40 man roster for 7-10 years without ever giving them a real chance. Had we gone out and signed a journeyman starter to put in front of Johnson and Velazquez, we'd have just put off for another day wondering how good each of them are. I get how a team with stiff competition for the division banner can't always afford to trial and error it until you find the one guy that fills the 6th starter/ long relief role. If 3-4 guys fail beforre you find (or obtain) the right guy, it may cost the team the division or playoffs, but Johnson has looked good enough to deserve a long look. Velazquez to a somewhat lesser extent, too.
  14. "Pretty healthy squad?" Not really. Yes, Pedey is "coming off surgery," but he's still out and may not ever get back to close to what he was. 2 of our top 6 SP'ers have been out all season (Pom & Wright) and ERod just came back 2 starts ago. Thornburg was supposed to be our back-up closer and number one set-up man. He may never pitch more than 10 IP for us. Carson Smith is still, apparently, recovering from his major injury. He was supposed to be our 3rd best RP'er. Maddox and Poyner are both out. Them there's Bogey: he's just the guy that was our best hitter before going on the DL. We may not have as many injuries as the young and strong Yankees, but we've had more than our share thus far.
  15. .681 after 4 PAs tonight! Holt's at .690.
  16. Just caught up to real time. Nice to see the bottom of the order hitting well and HRs galore. Bottom 3: 6 for 7 as of now with 1 BB & HBP 2 HRs 5 Runs 5 RBI It's weird how the bottom of the order gets on base 8 of 9 PAs, Betts hits 2 Hrs, but only has 2 RBI.
  17. Workman finally getting his act together. 2 IP- 5 Ks/ 0 BB/ 0 Hits. Quiroz hit his 4th HR and is currently hitting .400.
  18. Isn't this the Marlin team that some discounted our wins against? Hmm....
  19. Are you related to the prez?
  20. The Stros are in an awful hitting slump.
  21. I guess Baseball Reference has been slow to update.
  22. Finals- Sminals! We're 13-2 and playing a team that is 13-3!
