  1. What matters is how often "He has it" vs how often "He doesn't have it." The same is true for most MLB pitchers. if a curveball pitcher doesn't have it, he will suck. Wright has very good numbers over the last 3-4 years (ML and minors). He's actually been pretty consistent.
  2. Velazquez will go to the pen and improve it. We are adding Pom not losing Velazquez.
  3. AGon did help us dump Crawford and Beckett, but one has to think Rizzo would have done more. I'd have loved to have kept Beltre, but we did get JBJ and Swihart as comp picks, so that lessens the hit a little bit. The Shaw trade does not bother me that much. Sure, I'd undo it, but Shaw was not expected to do that well.
  4. Team wOBA .367 BOS .350 OAK .344 NYY .343 LAA .342 TOR wRC+ 130 BOS 124 OAK 121 LAA 117 NYY 115 TOR 3 teams from the AL East!
  5. I get it, but other points were made about other roster scenarios.
  6. The biggest "what if" to me is the Rizzo-AGon trade.
  7. It's hard to project a pitcher like Pom, but these numbers are impressive: 2017: 17-6 3.32 (174 IP) 1st half of 2016 (before the injury) 8-7 2.47 (102 IP) If adding a pitcher like Pom to your 12 man staff does not make a significant difference, our staff must be top notch from one to twelve!
  8. I hope this guy finishes his career with the Sox... Chris Freakin' Sale
  9. What if....? 1.025 Moreland 1 HR 6 RBI in 36 PAs .790 Hosmer 2 HRs 4 RBI in 81 PAs .739 L Duda 3 HRs 10 RBI in 57 PAs .532 Santana 2 HRs 10 RBI in 75 PAs .271 Morrison 0 Hrs 2 RBI in 50 PAs
  10. I never had much respect for Joe. I think he once formulated the line-up by asking his 5 year-old daughter who to play. The team responded to the manager change, perhaps more out of glee watching McNamara walk out the door. Don Zimmer had some great records for 3 or 4 years, but he played favorites way too much for my liking. Bill Carrigan won 2 rings in his 3 years and the team went 91-62 in a second place finish his other year (1914-1916).
  11. What could we get for trading two out-of-options players for one better player? Hembree & Holt for ________? Wright & Hembree for _______? Holt & Wright for ________? All three for __________? I'm not saying we need to weaken our bench, but we will likely have to trade or DFA Hembree or send a worse pitcher to AAA.
  12. Pom is a pretty good pitcher. Nobody knows, if he'll do better than Johnson/Velazquez would have done, but our pen should be improved by adding a long relief guy. If Pom repeats how he did last year or the first half of 2016, our rotation and pen should be significantly better with him than without him.
  13. It might be hard for him to improve on what Johnson and Velazquez have given us, so far, but I agree with your sentiment. Johnson 1-0 2.08 Velazquez 2-0 3.29
  14. Alex Cora doesn't know baseball. He knows people. He knows both.
  15. How many GMs have players drafted in 2016 and 2017 that are excelling right now?
  16. Charlie Blackmon Yasmani Grandal Brandon Belt Alex Bregman Am I missing anyone else important?
  17. I don't doubt your opinion. I'm just still a little worried that Price will go down injured and we may need extended starter depth, this year. Maybe as the end of the season nears, we can try him out of the pen a few times. A lot depends on how Johnson and Velazquez progress this year. They're both off to a nice start, but the ML season is a long one.
  18. One site's projections... https://www.teamrankings.com/mlb/projections/standings/ Projected Sox final record: 100-62 Odds of winning championship 16.5% Houston 13.6% Boston 13.0% LAD 9.1% CLE 8.4% Cubs 6.8% AZ 6.4% NYY 4.9 STL 3.5 NYM 3.1 LAA 1.6% MN & TOR
  19. I've always liked knuckleballers and think they help mess up opponent's timing- not just in the game they pitch but going forward into following games. The incident with his wife has made me question my own views on Steven, but as a pitcher, I think he's one of our best 12 pitchers when everyone is 100% healthy.
  20. Indeed. Here's how I see our pen, if fully healthy: (Assuming Pom & Wright are back and healthy as well) Closer- Kimbrel Set-up- Thornburg Set-up- C Smith RP4- Kelly RP5- Barnes RP6- Wright (out of options) RP7- Johnson (out of options) Odd man out: Hembree (out of options) AAA: Velazquez, Poyner, Walden, Maddox, Workman, Scott & Elias
  21. The one thing in Dick Williams' favor was that he took a low expectation team to within one game of a ring. He also never had a record worse than 86-76.
  22. We are not going to have an .882 winning % at the end of the season. Even 80% is a 130 win season. We will have some struggles, but this team looks deep and strong. We have enough players coming off the DL soon to help fill any gaps that might open up as the season goes forward or players get hurt. Gotta love this team right now!
  23. Fire & Desire are back!
  24. We are now 7th in HRs- just 2 away from 4th and 5 away from the lead. (We are tied with the "slugging" Yanks at 22.) Maybe tonight, we move into 3rd place!
